We initially spoke with Courtney over a weekend, and we genuinely appreciated her willingness to make herself available. We thanked her multiple times for taking the time to speak with us and assist us in obtaining a pre-approval so we could submit an offer on a home. At the conclusion of that conversation, our understanding was clear: we had reviewed the potential loan terms, and if we decided to move forward with Courtney and her mortgage firm, we would contact her to begin the official loan process. At no point did we authorize or discuss opening a loan application. Two days later, we received emails indicating that a loan application had been opened under our names and credit. Concerned that this may have been an error, we reached out to Courtney for clarification. Rather than acknowledging our concerns, Courtney stated that we "owed" her our business, stating "I dropped everything over the weekend to help you". Additionally stating, "I don't get paid unless you go with me". While we were sincerely grateful for her time--and expressed that appreciation repeatedly--we found this response inappropriate and unprofessional. Working weekends is a normal part of many real estate and mortgage professions, and no client should be made to feel obligated or pressured into doing business because a professional chose to make themselves available. When we explained that we would not be manipulated or pressured into working with a lender and expressed our concerns about the way the situation had been handled, Courtney responded by saying she no longer wished to work with us. Our decision not to move forward was not based solely on the misunderstanding regarding the loan application, but on the way our concerns were handled afterward. Professionalism, transparency, and respect are essential when handling something as significant as a mortgage, and unfortunately, working with Courtney - our experience did not reflect those values.
