Located along the highway on the grounds of City Hall, and across from the county Historical Society, a small monument is dedicated to one of Brazil's own heroes. The monument has an informational plaque on the front and features a miniature replica of a Curtiss P-40 (Warhawk) fighter plane flown by Major Charles B Hall during World War II.
Hall, who was an African-American become one of the famous Tuskegee Airmen. After training here, he was sent to fight in Tunisia (North Africa) where he is credited as being the first African-American to shoot down an enemy fighter. At one point in his career, he became the first African-American to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross (presented by then General Dwight Eisenhower.)
Unfortunately, no images of Major Hall are included with the monument.
