Back in 2007 (March 23), Eric Medlen was a driver for John Force Racing. While testing for a drag race in Gainesville, Florida, Medlen was killed at the age of 33. Medlen's father was his crew chief. The grief felt by the whole team was heartfelt and moved the team owner, John Force to commission this statue. The accident inspired the entire team to focus on safety as a key element to their pursuit of championships. The bronze is built about half scale and sits on a small hill surrounded by pine trees. It includes a bronze bust of Louis Chevrolet on a stone pedestal. There are some sculpted panels flanking the statue depicted various scenes involving the Chevrolet family and the history of the American auto industry.

Just west of the entrance into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is a small plaza (Founders…read morePlaza) that was created in 1975 as a tribute to Louis Chevrolet and his contribution to auto/racing. The bronze and marble semi-circle features a bust of Chevrolet on a central pedestal. Above the marble bench are four recreations of photographs of great moments in the Chevrolet history at the track. These bronze reliefs feature some of the legendary names in auto racing from the early years. Surprisingly, even Henry Ford gets his name and picture on one! The bronzes were created by Adolph Wolter in the years leading up to the dedication ceremony in 1975. I must admit that there were a number of the depicted individuals that I had never heard of. I am glad that those names and faces have been preserved so that they don't have to be forgotten. Review #1866

Gibbs Memorial Park had added a major ADA accessibility…read morefeature - so, after a recent clinic appointment I was able to get a friend of mine to take a detour so I could go check it out. W.S. Gibbs Memorial Park is a Hendricks County Park with an official address in Danville, though the park itself is considered to be in Avon. One of Hendricks County's newer parks, it offers two fishing ponds, nature trails, a disc golf course, and a playground among other features. The feature that attracted my attention is the recent addition of a fully accessible, ADA compliant fishing dock on the park's smaller lake. This dock was paid for in part by a federal Land & Water Conservation Fund grant and is part of a larger project at the park to improve ADA-accessibility and park security. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily, and admission to the park and the 18-hole disc golf course within it is free. In addition to checking out the new dock, I checked out the park itself. The park features: 70 acres of woods, prairie, ephemeral creek, and ponds. Over 2 miles of well-marked trails (gravel and natural surfaces). Two ponds totaling 5.5 acres stocked with bass, redear sunfish, bluegill, and channel catfish. ADA-accessible fishing dock Nature-themed playgrounds for 5-to-12-year-olds and for 2-to-5-year-olds. ADA-accessible concrete walkways from paved parking lots to pavilions. 30-foot-tall observation/sledding hill. Picnic areas. Green space. There are two pavilions that can be rented, both ADA accessible. There's no fee to fish the ponds; properly licensed anglers may keep what they catch as long as all Indiana fishing laws and regulations are being followed. This is an absolute gem of a park and I'm so excited to see that they're taking accessibility so seriously. If you're in Hendricks County or on Indy's far westside, this park is worth the trip.

This place is underrated. I came for a kids birthday party and I had so much fun with my husband…read moreplaying arcades and drinking at the bar. I'm surprised it wasn't more packed. There's so much to do and play for kids and adults. I'd definitely recommend for date night, family outing, or anything really. Adult drinks were pretty good, not sure about the food we didn't get a chance to try but the menu looks promising.

Completed in 1972, the Salem Crossing Covered Bridge crosses Fishback Creek, just to the west of…read moreSalem Road. It was built by E.J. Murphy who earned an engineering degree at Purdue University and subsequently moved to Zionsville. Interestingly, the dedication of the bridge was attended by U.S. Vice President Hubert Humphrey. U.S. Senator Vance Hartke, U.S. Senator Birch Bayh, and "Bonanza" actor Lorne Greene. After Murphy passed away in 1981, the Kennerk family purchased the property and bridge in 1982 from Murphy's estate. The Kennerks renamed the bridge Salem's Crossing in 1996. The bridge is not open to traffic and I believe that it might be located on private property. So keep that in mind if you're planning to visit. Fluorescent frogs is a very cool and unwise display of public art located inside the intech park…read morearea of Indianapolis Indiana. My family and I discovered this cool piece while entering a round a bout on the way to our hotel while in town for a weekend get away from Lousiville. Int he center of the round a bout is a small pond. On Thai pond is some constructed Lilly pads with each containing a frog statue on them. At night these frogs glow a beautiful fluorescent light. Very pretty and unique thing to view. I'm not quite sure I've ever seen anything like this before. What a cool and creative way to spruce up a round about for intech park.
