Maple just a couple of blocks from the Hartville Flea Market is a huge thrift store. Open Monday through Saturday, Hartville Thrift is always fun and worth the time. The first thing to check out is the video screens which show the colors of the week: one is 50% off and the other is 99 cents; even without those colors prices are very reasonable, mens shirts are $3, sportscoats are $8, suits are $10. It is also worth checking out the items on the silent auction as you enter the main room, there are usually some cool more expensive items and large collections available. In the main area you will find a ton of clothes, jewelry, shoes, art, toys and assorted other stuff. In the room to your right as you enter there is kitchen items, knick knacks, Christmas items, electronics, sporting goods and more. You will also usually see a couple of tiered carts with items just being brought out, just be ready for people to swarm to see what is available. Further back and further to the right is an area with furniture, hardware, lamps and garden stuff. I have found all kinds of values at Hartville Thrift, from Suit jackets, shirts, masks, figurines and most of those were very cheap. In addition the staff is great, they are friendly and helpful. The selection changes not just daily but can be supplemented at any time. There are going to be times when you don't find anything, other times when you come away with a very nice haul. If you are interested in a unique thrifting experience, it is well worth the trip to Hartville to check out Hartville Thrift Shoppe. With most of the major Thrift Stores reducing the discounts they offer and raising prices it is refreshing to still have a place with a great assortment and offering real values.

For my interests, there is very little paper goods, stationery, and a small selection of old post cards - maybe 50 at most. In general, it's a very colorful place and fully expresses that old vibe. There's also a lot of locally handmade items like cards and "packaged" antiques, if that makes any sense! Prices seems reasonable. It's hard for me to get in here, considering the hours, but they're usually open an hour later on Fridays. The shopkeeper was friendly and chatted with me while I thumbed through the post cards.

To be honest, I didn't even make it into building #2, marked "building materials" and with several doors leaning up against the outside. I imagine that's where you'd truly get your start. In all, this is really just the retail leg of the bigger picture of what Habitat does. It can be humbling to visit and learn that we don't need a full set of matching appliances or a Dwell magazine-worthy home to truly live life. It puts the basics back into perspective.
