It was once owned by Luc Besson, but he sold his stake in the theater to another group. That's fine, as long as they keep the theater running and awesome. When we were in Paris, the repertoire movie they were showing was by chance, one of my husband's favorites - Fight Club! The theater itself is almost like an art museum, with a cool little tree shaped bench that is attached to the celling in a mushroom style, right in the middle. The screens in the theaters are top notch, with clear imagery, amazing sound, and comfortable seating. They even have fancy snacks, like ice cream, high end chocolates, and even Starbucks coffee! If you're a movie lover and you're visiting Paris, you'll have a plethora of theaters to visit. But definitely make Pathé one of your options!

It is not a cinematheque, they don't specialize in arthouse films or classics, but rather popular and cult movies that you seldom get to experience on a big screen. To give you an idea of what they are going for, for their opening week they had Blade Runner, Casino, Top Gun, the Back To The Future trilogy and a few Wong Kar Wai movies. They also plan on having special events, like the showing of The Blues Brothers with John Landis in attendance. I think this is amazing and I don't know why nobody tried it before. I mean, some movies deserve to be experience in a theater, on a large screen with a crowd. I can't wait to see what movies they are going to show next!

We watched the Batman movie "Joker" on Halloween, and was very surprised to see how many people dressed up as Joker on Champs-Élysées after the movie was finished. Overall it was a good experience, and a nice place to relax after a long day of being a tourist.

My bigger beef is with the "pass illimite" which is the unlimited monthly pass which they sell for the ridiculously cheap price of 20 euros. I think they want to make it particularly difficult for non-residents to get the pass, as you have to have a French bank account in order to get the monthly pass. Boo.
