Having tried several bakeries in The Netherlands I've come to the conclusion that it's extremely rare to find good cupcakes. They are either stale or the icing isn't right or just plain ol' BLAH! But that wasn't the case at VAN NESS I've been trying to eat their cupcakes for a while now. They get sold out rather quickly so one has to go sometime before 3-4pm if you want to have all the flavors. So we walked into this tiny store full of excitement and tried four different flavors of cupcakes (chocolate lava, red velvet, pistachio and chocolate vanilla) and boy o' boy was I pleasantly surprised, they were EPICALLY delicious. They were moist and full of flavor and honestly the best I've had in this country for sure! I sent to Perfect Pastry an email inquiring about the possibility of making a custom birthday cake with a specific layered interior filling, and a custom inscription on the top of the cake, and a card. Nermina responded the very next day with detailed information and a price. Even with a nine hour time difference Nermina was extremely responsive, and detail-oriented. I was also able to request a specific two hour delivery window. The cake arrived at my in-laws' apartment exactly on time. The cake was visually beautiful, and the filling was exactly as I had requested. My wife and her family reported that it was one of the most delicious birthday cakes they had ever enjoyed! The cake was indeed perfect, and so was the experience in terms of inquiring, ordering and executing.
