    Maitland Public Library

To the young lady who I disturbed trying to have a very quiet Zoom call, I'm sorry. You're right - that is the "reading room" and my voice carries even when I'm trying to keep it low. Fortunately, I was able to evacuate and found a FANTASTIC spot in the courtyard that was not only comfortable, but there were power outlets within reach. Laptopping from outside? Bonus! This is a large library with lots of space. There several different quiet areas though none that were "okay to talk" areas. Lots and lots of books of all sorts, plenty of parking and many comfortable spaces. If you're a train fan, the Amtrak rail goes right past. Fun to watch the train going through here. Kids area of library has tons of books, puzzles, blocks, paper and crayons, and tablets

The Maitland Public Library is probably my favorite library in the area! It's small and an old building but don't let that fool you. The library is well kept, organized, and clean! The bathrooms are tiny but also clean and have changing tables for your child. They have a great children's area filled with not only books but things for kids to do, such as puzzles, blocks, and even tablets loaded with age appropriate games. This library has one of the best kids story time programs that I've been to in central Florida! Granted I haven't been to them all, but I have been to quite a few. They have a calendar for the programs posted in the library as well as their website (they have adult programs too). Not one but TWO librarians present story time in one of their event rooms several days a week. The event room is spacious with a rug as well as a ton of cushioned chairs to sit on for a better view (if your toddler will actually sit). Get this - they present story time using microphone headsets, a sound system, and they usually tell one or two stories using a PowerPoint/slide for the book! If that's not enough, they do a short puppet show at the end which makes the kids go crazy. I could keep going, but just know that they do an excellent job! They have a small bookstore with reasonably priced books, so be sure to visit that. I'm not a Maitland or Orange County resident so even though I can't check out books, I like coming here for the store and the kids programs. Bonus: they are located right next to Lake Lily which is a nice place to walk, visit the playground, or attend the Farmers Market on Sunday!

In a teacher's living room The first Maitland Library was founded back in 1896 when roughly 360 books were stored in a local teacher's living room. Hardly the most convenient arraignment for the local teacher, so in 1907 a real library was constructed. This 1907 construction still stands today and continues to serve as the main body of the library. As the town grew so did the need for a larger library so several fine additions were built and now the library has increased it's size to include over 85,000 items. Besides just books, magazines, newspapers, and movies the library also has computers ready for use. In the lobby a display case changes from month to month reflecting holidays and future events. The library has a pleasantly rambling sort of style and is much larger than it first appears. There is a very nice courtyard in the center with benches and shade and the very cool Lily Park only a short distance down the street. The librarians here were exceptionally helpful and friendly and gave me all the information I could ever want. It certainly is nice to be greeted by an enthusiastic smile. Maitland is a cool town but spending time in this library was one of the best parts of my visit.

Upon arriving, there was parking all around the building. After I parked, I noticed there was a round about to walk around outside and a couple spots by the ponds to read! I went inside the library, and it was very organized. Spots around downstairs and upstairs to study or read. There were private rooms for rent. For the most part, I was able to read and concentrate. However, towards the end, there were kids upstairs that were being loud and I couldn't concentrate anymore. I didn't know this library was different than the Orange County library. I thought it was the same, but thankfully, getting a new library card was simple. I found the 2 books I was looking for! There's book returns both inside and outside of the library! My favorite thing about this spot is the architecture outside!

Because of the unique architecture, there are several floors and it feels like a magical maze inside. There are small areas throught to read, explore and use your computer. There's even a little multimedia section! There is also a special events center next door, connected by a little patio area. The staff here are so helpful and friendly! The location is so bright and clean that you can't help but feel happy the moment you walk in! Happy adventures to you!!

Orange County Library System: The Greatest Free Subscription You Never Knew You Needed…read more BREAKING NEWS: There's a place in town where stories come alive, books are free, and magic is real--and no, it's not a theme park. It's your local Orange County Library, and it just might be the most underrated treasure in Central Florida. Today, we hit up Tiny Tales with Mr. D, and let me tell you--this man deserves his own Broadway show. He had a room full of babies giggling, parents engaged, and storybooks practically jumping off the pages. It's the kind of experience that makes you grateful to be raising your family here. But that's just the beginning of what this library system has to offer: They deliver books TO YOUR HOUSE. Yes, for real. You can place a hold on popular titles, and when it's your turn--BOOM--they ship it straight to your doorstep like it's book-loving Christmas. FOR FREE. No monthly fees, no strings, just pure literary goodness. Books, audiobooks, DVDs, and even tech kits? All free. Want to dive into a cookbook? Learn a language? Binge a new series? OCLS has you covered. Family fun all week long: From baby bounce time and toddler yoga to coding classes and art workshops--there's always something cool going on, and it's perfect for connecting with other parents while your little one explores. Returns are easy: Drop your books at any branch or toss them into a return bin near you. Then stock up again. It's a beautiful cycle. And guess what? They're building a new branch in HAMLIN! We're counting the days until we can walk to even more storytimes, events, and those glorious stacks of free reads. So here's the truth: in a world of pricey subscriptions and endless screen time, the Orange County Library System is a free, feel-good miracle that supports families, fuels imaginations, and builds community--one story at a time. We love it. We use it. We tell everyone about it. If you haven't gotten a library card yet... what are you doing?! Go. Sign. Up. Now.
