I hadn't been to this restaurant, located in the little village of Lombise in the middle of nowhere, for more years than I can remember. I had fond memories of the place and remembered that it was worth going to - otherwise why would I have gone so many times?!
Well, memories fade. I went here last night with my fiancee for a birthday dinner. It was a beatiful evening so we sat outside, in front of the restaurant, which has probably 10 or more tables. We ordererd a St Fluellien blonde each (beer!) and then their 38 Euro menu, which was a starter, main course and dessert.
I had the salmon to start with, which came with some toast and she had the fois gras pate. Both were pretty good but really, other than making the toast, nothing has to be cooked (do you cook toast?!).
The main course for me was the beef steak that came with some green beans and some type of potatoes which I wasn't sure how they were prepared. I enjoyed it but really, nothing memorable. Actually I found it odd ordering a steak and not being asked how I wanted it cooked. I prefer medium rare but didn't get the choice (and forgot to ask as well) but this came well done.
She had the lamb, which was a kind of lamb steak with the same stuff that I had. Delicious lamb (I took some when she wasn't looking!).
Dessert was a dame blanche, since I love ice cream. Again, ice cream with chocolate syrup on it isn't hard to prepare. My lady had the mousse a chocolat, which she usually loves - her favorite dessert. I tasted it too and we both agreed that it tasted like it came out of a packet, added milk and whipped it up. The powdery taste was disappointing.
Yet overall, the meal was OK but not for that price, I didn't think. The best thing about la Maison du Cocher is that they have a nice outdoor seating area and its a quiet village. The restaurant is located just across the street from the church and next to the main square, which has ample parking. read more
