Happy Chappy Ice Cream Shop

Happy Chappy Ice Cream Shop

Ice cream is what I call a good bad life decision. It's good because it is delicious, but it is bad…read morebecause (as a lactose intolerant person) it ends up hurting me. And yes there's frozen yogurt (which I can handle a bit better) and milk free desserts like sorbet, but sometimes a girl just wants a bit of ice cream dagnabbit! Enter the recently opened (as of April 1 - no foolin), Happy Chappy Ice Cream Shop. This is an ice cream parlour that serves 30 different flavours of Chapman's hard ice cream. If I'm gonna risk a little pain later for a tasty treat now then Chapman's is a good way to go. The ice cream shop is a little difficult to find, but not impossible. From 50th Street you turn into the parking for Hugh's Car Wash, but in the lot take an immediate left and go around the side of the north building. Happy Chappy is near the back facing the Panda Hut Express across the way. Yes, it's a bit of an odd location for an ice cream parlour, but it's ice cream and I'm not complaining. Personally, I'm just glad it's somewhere other than in Leduc Common. The Ice Cream shop is pretty small. It's a basic walk-in and order and go kind of deal. There is a bench on the back wall, but there isn't any room for any tables or chairs. They advertise 30 different flavours, most hard ice cream, but I also saw a few frozen yogurt and sorbet flavours. They've got some standards (chocolate, vanilla), but also there are more fun flavors too. I tried the Raspberry Rocky Road, which is a vanilla and raspberry ice cream with chocolate chunks. Yum. The lady working (likely the owner) was very friendly and happy to answer any questions I had. Despite the hidden location, I hope this ice cream shop does well. Leduc doesn't always have a place to get hard ice cream, and this fits the bill perfectly. As I was going in I saw a family with five kids leave, so I'm sure it will get busier as the weather (hopefully) gets nicer. They're open from 2pm to 9pm every day so you can hit your ice cream craving in the afternoon and in the evening as well. It might be a good bad life decision, but I'll come back here again.

I had not been to Camrose for five years, so this was my first time in their new location. Also,…read moreit was my first time with the new menu. Location: OK. More modern and standard compared to their old location downtown. Service: I talked to two different staff. One when I ordered, and one after I finished my food and was about to leave. Neither could tell me the difference between their first three burgers on the menu. I was told to "look at the pictures". Menu & Food: The new menu gives names to their burgers, but doesn't say what is in them. I only learned what was in the burgers when I went to the DQ website when I was home a couple of days later. The burger patties are now thinner, which explains why there are now triple burgers. The triple burgers probably have the same meat as DQ's previous double burgers. The burger patties are not cooked the same as before, and do not taste as good as before. They used to have a grill taste, but not anymore. Price: The prices are much higher for the same type of thing as before. Last autumn (the last time I ate at a DQ), my meal (burger, fries, drink), was a total of $11.74. This time it was $16.79 for the comparable meal. DQ used to be my first choice for burgers. Not anymore. As for this location, I can't ignore the lack of knowledge of the staff for what they are serving.

I was at the French…read moreQuarter and decided to just "walk to Kind Ice Cream" in the middle of summer in +30C weather, without water because it's "so close." I don't live in this area, so the walk was further than I had anticipated. So I got to Kind Ice Cream already feeling the effects of some heat stroke. And while ice cream isn't probably the best solution (drinking water would be better) it's not the worst, right? Ice cream is a good idea, or the dairy-free alternative is since I'm lactose-intolerant. Kind Ice Cream has three choices for me from their regular menu, and they usually have a dairy-free alternative in their rotating menu. I went for one of their standards Lemon and Jammy Raspberry. I'm a fan of anything Raspberry flavour and this was delicious. My first visit at Kind Ice Cream but not my last. 0 out of 5 for heat stroke. 5 out of 5 for the ice cream.

Always a great choice for ice cream! Woman run business too…read more Haskup flavor was what I was hoping would return this Aug (a huge hit with me and my friends last summer) and the universe delivered! Lots of regular classics and a good choice of monthly new flavors too. This local shop is tucked in by the bookstore & liquor store stripmall and across from the restaurants, butcher and coffee on the 4 corners (as the locals call it in Ritchie). As it is a small shop (aka small bench inside), I usually grab a pint or if the weather is nice, a cup or cone to enjoy outside. There's some benches just at the corner and some sitting options if you cross the ave. Parks nearby, including a dog park and Millcreek Ravine. Both not far. Just depends on how active you want to be when you enjoy your ice cream. Price point is average for what is being charged in Edmonton. So this is still in a treat category.
