Minus 5! We had a DISGUSTING experience with Renewal by…read moreAndersen of Greater Maine Bangor. See TrustPilot they are 1.9/5! Salesman walks in sees almost new house: 20 years old with original Andersen doors. He knows we have standard size doors and that selling us custom sizes (this is what Renewal says they do) is wrong but he continues. During the sales process, we were told we needed custom-sized French doors and full frame and casing replacement. Then the measuring expert comes and says standard sizes work and we save 7%. They rip out frames and casings anyway and put in new everything including the exact same size doors as we have. Then we find our old doors fit in the new frames. Great way to treat your best customers! Horrible installation too! Doors open on their own, the door frames are visibly out of alignment, there are gaps covered with excessive caulking, and the doors are drafty unless locked. They also rattle when closed. Weatherstripping began failing within days and repairs didn't last. During installation, parts of our wired security system were removed and returned disconnected (the workman said he didn't know what they were!), leaving it non-functional. We were later told we were responsible for removing it, even though no one ever said anything and the contract dosen't mentioned it. We were told the screen doors we would get would be "way more substantial" than the screen doors we had. The new doors were the cheapest they offer and identical to our old ones. We also had personal property damaged during installation: they nailed my wife's raincoat under the casing and didn't even notice! We were sold work we did not need, were told misleading information during the sales process and got substandard workmanship. For the price charged (about $46,000), we expected much better. I would strongly recommend getting multiple quotes and asking very detailed questions before signing anything. If your contract is longer than one page run for cover!

I hired a Jason back in February to do a substantial amount of work on my home. In total I have…read morepaid over $20K. Initially he did a great job working hard and getting a lot done. But when I started to run low on money he started showing up less and less. What I didn't know was that the State of Maine requires contractors to create contracts for any work over $2,500. I did an initial walk through with Jason detailing what I wanted done. A contract was never signed as I was not aware that needed to happen. He left a slew of items undone. On top of that the flooring that he put in throughout 50% of my house was subpar. The ceramic tile kept "popping" and the grout kept crumbling. I have had numerous contractors come to my home to tell me that ceramic tile should have never been installed on my flooring. But Jason initially assured me that he could install. After 3 months of walking on this floor it was very clear that he didn't do good work and I agreed with the other contractors that had come in. I reached out through text message to Jason that he needed to do something about this floor and what he had left me with was unacceptable and that I thought he should use his LLC to reimburse me. Upon investigating I discovered that he didn't have a LLC which he advertises to have one online. Jason fully admitted to rushing my floor and messing it up. He scheduled a time with me to come and talk about it and I had a cousin join that was familiar with contracting and could be there to witness. Jason agreed to pay me $3700 for the floor, pull the old flooring up, and finish what he hadn't yet done. We did a walk through and he agreed on everything I had pointed out. A week later, on 8/15, when he showed up to start pulling up the floor he didn't come with a check and I asked him to bring it. Every day after that through 8/20 when I asked him for a check he flat out ignored me. He sent other workers to my house to pull up the floor and didn't even pull it all up. Jason knows that I need that money to put new flooring down as he literally took all my money. I informed him on Thursday 8/20 that if I didn't have a check by the end of the day on Friday 8/21 that I would be seeking legal recourse. To include the flooring portion and the remainder of unfinished work. He didn't answer. I have pictures of his awful work, snapshots of conversations of him admitting to rushing my floor and messing it up, and snapshots of him ignoring me asking for my check. Additionally he was doing work on my father's house which he did not complete or have me sign a contract for either. On Tuesday 8/27 he had one of his workers hand me a bill for the work that he did at my father's IN APRIL. I paid the Jason in full for the work that is still not done and my father's house remains unfinished. I'm having to start a gofundme to fix my floor and help with legal fees, I am learning home improvement techniques to finish what he started, and I am relying on family to assist me in what I cannot do on my own.

I left him a check for the remainder of the project. A mistake! When I returned two weeks later I saw that he had done some work but had only completed about 2/3 of the project. Not only that, he deviated from the plans my husband had drawn up. Before I left I made sure he was clear on the details of what we expected. The last time we saw him was in early October when roofing was delivered. Last contact via text was the first week of November. He frequently had excuses for not showing up such as, at the doctor, family member had a brain bleed, trailer was stolen, someone was holding his trailer and wouldn't give him access, etc. Asked for the return of a reasonable amount of money but have not seen a cent so I am taking him to small claims court. I hope everyone who has been ripped off by this man takes legal action. Call the sheriff's office and report it.

DH Pinnette & Sons - Front view of house with new metal roof

Our comp-shingle roof was about 15 years old and looking long in the tooth, so when we refinanced…read moreour house in Augusta a few years ago we also budgeted for a new roof, which DH Pinnette recently installed. We went for a standing-seam metal roof (24-gauge steel) because, while it's more expensive, it will last a lifetime--ours, anyway--with minimal maintenance; and snow accumulation will be minimized. We obtained competitive quotes, so we knew Pinnette's was in the ballpark for a professionally done project on a complicated roof like ours. Also, though we didn't verify any independently, the other jobs they've done as shown in the gallery on their website showed a high level of skill and experience. We executed the contract a year ahead ($200 earnest deposit) because that is how busy Pinnette are. (Old saying: When you want a job done right, give it to a busy person.) The entire project took 6-7 weeks, as expected; weather is always an unknown factor, and these guys know better than to try working in dangerous conditions. The crew were unfailingly industrious, polite, and considerate to my wife and me throughout the project; and they did a good job cleaning up the site during and after their work. Because a metal roof can be installed atop an existing comp roof, there was no tear-off, with all the cost and mess (and landfill) that would have entailed. Aspects of the contracting process worth noting: (1) Another roofing company, after surveying to make an estimate, backed out because they weren't confident predicting material and labor conditions a year out. Pinnette made their estimate a year out, simply providing that if their costs went up by 10% or more the contract price was subject to adjustment. But the estimator said that labor and material costs in the roofing business had been pretty stable, so there wouldn't necessarily be any change. Indeed, the invoice price has not exceeded the contract price. But be aware that, like anything involving investments, past performance is no guaranty of future results. (2) If you have chimneys that need "repointing," have a mason do that prior to installing a metal roof because masons loath going up on a metal roof. We were glad to have had that tip and we got our chimneys seen to in advance. Obviously, your mileage may vary--I see some less-than-stellar reviews here. Our experience has been first class and I recommend Pinnette without hesitation.

I contacted one commercial roofing company that said the job was too small and suggested that I contact DH Pinnette. I called and explained the situation and they said that they were busy but would get over to repair the problem within the next two weeks. Short story is.... 3 months later, many phone calls, missed appointments and significant damage to an interior wall, they finally shoed up and fixed the issue. The service tech made the comment that due to all the damage I should have called sooner. I told him that 3 months had passed since the first phone call. He didn't have a response. I will never recommend or use the services of DH Pinnette again. I suggest that you find a more reputable and responsive company if you need roof repairs or replacement.
