Main Street Stove and Fireplace in Patchogue was one of the worst retail stores I have ever dealt with. Their negligence and disregard of customer concern was profound, never have I ever dealt with such arrogance and a smug attitude as I did from Jim the manager. Our fireplace was installed incorrectly and puffed back continually, only for Jim the manager to blame us the consumer at every turn. Finally had to hire an engineer which proved we the consumer were correct the installation was faulty. Jim and company at Main Street Stove constant disregard of our concerns caused damage to our brand-new home and brick work surrounding or fireplace. This company should be put out of business! From the beginning, when I first entered, the establishment sales people were extremely friendly, and very helpful to all my questions. I walked in there with the intentions of getting an education on wood-burning stoves. By the time I left, I should've received a diploma for the knowledge I received from the sales people. I waited about one month for the installation due to the extreme volume of business. I ended up buying a harthstone green Mountain 60 a fantastic stove made with soapstone. If you do not know what soapstone is S see one of the sales reps they will give you a complete explanation about that type of heating element. The installer they use in my opinion is a professor in installation he measured remeasured with all kinds of gadgets to make sure everything was even in plum. I would use them anytime. If you are interested and ready to save a lot in oil bills go in and see one of the sales reps and get an education on wood-burning stove fireplace inserts and get ready to save a lot of money. I had such a great experience at this establishment today. The manager, Jim was able to help us price out a stunning fireplace for our first home! He was extremely knowledgeable about every little detail of every single model they had. Not only was he professional but also very personable and lovely to talk to. Jim took his time explaining the various models available and the features of each. He really spent a lot of time ensuring we understood what we're putting our money into. We showed pictures of the house we're renovating and ended up bouncing ideas off each other for the fireplace. He provided insightful ideas and advice. This is the worst experience i have ever had with a company. I went to Main street fireplace in July! I spoke with Charlie. I wanted to fix my fireplace, either tear it down or just fix it up, Charlie told me that they would send a contractor to look at my fireplace and it would cost $100.00 and they would reduce that amount from my bill if i decided to hire them to re-do my fireplace. I paid the $100.00 to the contractor and did not receive a call from Charlie, I finally called after two week to find out why i did not receive a call, he said they never received the information from the contractor and that he would call me back. I received a call the next day, he asked that i take a drive to "All county stone" and chose a brick that would like. I drove to All county picked a Veneer Stone "Alaska Gray", I called Charlie and told him what i picked. Charlie called, and stated due to Covid and a shortage of workers the brick was not available, so i had to go back to "All county" and picked another Veneer brick , actually I picked two different bricks just in case the one i picked was also not available. One of the bricks that i picked was available but the corners were not in stock. Charlie called and asked if i picked a hearth he had suggested that "blue ice" would look good, which I agreed too, he asked that i go back and take a look at it to make sure i liked it, so i drove back for the third time and picked the "blue ice". I called Charlie to let him know about the corners not being available and he said i am working on your estimate and ill get back to you. I said i haven't even told you the brick that i picked! How can you be working on the estimate?? He did not say anything. So, being that the "Corners" of the 3rd choice that i picked were not available, Charlie suggested that I go to the MSI website and pick a brick from them. I went on the website and picked Silver Travertine which was available so i called Charlie and he said he would get back to me and also stated that their contractors were having issues with MSI, What???? Why would he ask me go into the site??? So a week later he sent me an estimate on OCTOBER 8TH, remember i originally starting dealing with Main street fire place in JULY!!!!!! The estimate was all wrong, an outrageous amount close to $6000.00 to just go over my existing fireplace? They came to repair my 16 year old Mendota fireplace. Carl, our technician, came on time very late in the day. the repair turned out to be very involved and he stayed very late to meticulously complete the job. He is a gentleman and a professional. He is courteous and really cares about his work. It now burns beautifully and because of Carl's attention to detail has a better looking flame and ember bed than when it was NEW. I wish I could put zero stars. I went in today to buy a wood burning stove. I was told I had to purchase the floor model because there weren't any more available for months. I was fine with that. While filling out the paperwork I felt the charge for the installation kit was high so I went out to the car to speak to my husband. After speaking to my husband who was in the car we decided to buy the stove and go from there. When I went back in seconds later to buy the stove all of a sudden it was on hold and they had to call someone to make sure they were buying it. Then I was told it was sold. My husband measured the fireplace incorrectly but somehow the plumber squeezed it in. When Carl from Main Street Stove came to complete the installation he realized it was too large for the opening. Main Street could not be nicer to us. They took the wrong size back and got us the correct size. They charged us a minimal amt of money. Carl came yesterday and completed the installation. Purchased a linear fireplace that does not have a blower and they did not inform me I would have to vent the heat to another room, which is costing me more money. I purchased a Quadra fire Santa Fe pellet insert from Main Street Stove and Fireplace. I don't know if the stove works because the tech rep failed to show up for the unit startup. When I called to say I could not wait any more (long after their two hour appointment window), the staff were unhelpful about rescheduling because they claimed I was cancelling (even though their rep never showed up). Purchased two fireplaces, paid in full only to discover the gas unit requires a power vent at the cost of an additional $2,000+. I left the store with a lot more knowledge that I would never get from a website. What a nightmare! If I could give them a 0 I would. We purchased a floor model pellet stove that sold as new unit, only used for display, paid top dollars since we were told was fairly new, we used it for 7 weeks when the stove failed and it stop working, we had to wait 3 1/2 weeks for service cause they only have 1 tech to service all customers. It tuned out that pellet stove was 10 yrs old and not a new one as we were told. We requested to get out $$$ back and they refused, the pellet stove died again after they fixed the first time and it's been a nightmare to deal with them. The manager Jim is a clown who's only concern is the reputation of the business but could care less abt customer service. Don't bother even going into the store. They'll be nice so they can make the sale, once they take you $$$ could care less. read more

My wife and I decided that we were going to buy a new woodstove and after doing a Google search came across Main Street Stove and Fireplace in Patchogue. We were greeted by Jim who was very pleasant and helpful and answered all our questions. After spending about 45 minutes going over all of the ins and outs of the different types of stoves we finally settled on the Shelburne by Hearthstone. After agreeing on the price, we told Jim we would take some time to think it over, well it took us about a month before we were able to get back to Jim, and in that time there was an increase in the price, but Jim honored the original price he had quoted us. Let me start off by saying that we were second time customers at Main Street Stove. We decided on purchasing a pellet stove in Aug '15. Their so called "expert" outside contractor comes to your house to check out the site for installation. We had use of the stove for about 6 weeks when their installation failed miserably. Now, as you might imagine, a stove with moving parts grinds to a halt and they don't want to hear about it just months later. After several useless conversations about the situation, Main Street wanted nothing to do with the repair, stating that it was our "chimney's problem" even though their "expert" supposedly checked the site during the installation. We were willing to pay to have the stove fixed and the site repaired, until we heard that we would have to wait until the summer to have their chimney "expert" paint clear shellac on the chimney for $1000.00, plus 2 guys to fix the stove and take it back to the shop and we would have to pay our half (which would I'm sure be the entire cost of the repair). Then they advised us to contact the manufacturer of the stove, full well knowing that it puts you in a phone matrix right back to Main Street, problem solved....we'd just give up. At out wits end, we made a phone call to a repair company in Centerearch and they had one guy on the chimney and one guy on the stove (at our house) and in total the entire repair was less than $900 and now guaranteed! The moral of this story, Main Street Stove only is concerned with the sale of the stoves and could really care less about maintenance despite the worthless lip service they give to being a family company. read more
