Just a little information for all those interested in the status of "Sea Tow" in Barnegat Light,…read moreNJ.  Think about this little story before you renew.  I'll keep this exclusively to the facts: Labor day 2020.  Fluke fishing 7 miles offshore. Major electrical issue leaving us with a boat that won't start and no radio.  Called Sea Tow on cellphone at 1:42pm.  Conversation from Sea Tow ended with "we will get in touch with our locate franchise and call you right back".  Over 1 hour later at 2:44pm still no call back.  Fortunately we are drifting west (into cell coverage) and not east (out of cell coverage).  I called back and we are advised "SeaTow will not be coming to get you, but we will send a 3rd party but you will have to pay them directly and we will reimburse you".  This 3rd party is "TowBoatUS".  They towed me back in at typical rates.  Cost $1,000.  I have since found that Sea Tow no longer has a working franchise in Barnegat Light.  They are relying on coverage from Sea Tow franchise locations that are significantly north and south of this inlet.   I was reimbursed by Sea Tow, and I promptly requested a refund of my membership for which was refused.  I was told "we gave you $1,000", for which I responded, "no, you gave TowBoatUS $1,000".  As a side note to Sea Tow: paying your competitor to cover your inability to perform and doing so at full retail rates is a terrible business model. The fact is, Sea Tow does not have proper coverage for this inlet so I'm not sure how they can even question my request for a refund when they can not quickly, safely and efficiently provide towing coverage to boaters at around this inlet.  I am in no way associated with TowBoatUS, however they have many boats located in this area and can provide coverage that it is apparent SeaTow can/will not.  BEWARE, BE INFORMED and think about this before you renew with SeaTow.
