I tipped the woman very generously because of the way she was able to relax me and relieve my pain, @30% pre discount. I gave them only three stars because I had purchased a Groupon, which is why i decided to try this place. The manager scolded me for using Groupon, went into an explanation of how little he gets paid, next time to call him directly and he will match the price without going through Groupon. he must have told me four times before i went in for the massage, that i have to tip the woman no less than 20%. I found that to be very unprofessional and it made me feel very uncomfortable. Spa was good! First timer and I would say 4.5/5 stars. I made an appointment a few hours before and they were able to take me the day of. Usually the area has no parking, but I was lucky enough to find a parking spot close to the spa. Looked more like an apartment building when I entered. Super friendly staff, super friendly warm welcome. As soon as I arrived, they took me into the room. There were a few private rooms with curtains, no doors. When you first enter there's a big room with multiple beds for people who get the quicker massages. I went into the private room for a 60 min full body massage and 30 min foot reflexology. Total was $77. And the tip was standard 25%. I think that's a bit high, but they said it was "standard". Which is odd because you should be able to tip them what u want. Anyways the lady that took me was very gentle. I told her I wanted a harder massage and she listened. She was very professional. Very clean & friendly spa. Would recommend. Really bizarre experience. I purchased their Groupon and made the appointment from there where it says [request appointment] and I set it up for 1:00pm. I even got a confirmation text from the mahopac spa. So I get to the spa and at the desk there's a man, and to the side there are 2 women sitting on the couch. None of them speak English well, which is fine, but when I mentioned my appointment and showed my confirmation text, the man started saying, "I know nothing about that!" and asked if I called him while pointing to his phone, but in a really rude manner. And I said, "no, I made it online - look at this text though, it has your name on it!" And he just repeated how he doesn't use that , doesn't have a computer and doesn't have me listed, while pointing over and over to his appointment book. Soooo I just had to turn around and leave.... & then I didn't want to go back because he made me feel totally unwanted....and who wants a massage from someone like that?... so I traded it in for another massage from a different spa on groupon. My husband had purchased a groupon for me for a 60 minute massage. I will be honest, I was not excited about going after reading the reviews on how some people were berated for using a groupon and for not tipping enough. However, I did not want to lose the money paid and I was prepared to fight back if that was done to me. I made the appointment the day before. I got there a few minutes before and was escorted to the back within a minute. It's not the most professional environment. You walk into the back and there is an open room with several massage tables. To the left are private rooms with curtains somewhat like fitting rooms. There is not total privacy. The rooms are separated by walls but the walls don't go to the ceiling so therefore you can hear what's going on outside of your room. There is only a curtain, not a door which is a little uncomfortable to undress in a room that doesn't have an actual door. The curtain does not block out the opening 100%. The room I was in also had a window that looked into the other room. They put some kind of stained glass contact paper on it (that wasn't applied to the very edges) but if someone were to look closely, you could see into the other room. My massage therapist was Marie. She did not speak english well. The man who greeted me had asked if there were any areas that I wanted a little more attention and then he translated that to her. She was very very good. I don't think she was a professional masseuse but I do think she had some training. Marie was very attentive to focusing on the knots in my shoulders. Part of the massage experience is the peacefulness and tranquility. Because the rooms are not totally separated, you can hear people talking in the background and I also heard a toilet flush several times. That probably was the worst part of the experience which wasn't that bad. I've had better massages and experiences but for more money. So would I go back? Yeah, I think I would go back and request Marie. Oh, by the way, I was NOT berated for using a groupon, I tipped about 30% and they were very pleasant and gracious to me on my way out. read more

Went to this spa because I found a Groupon for it. It was relatively cheap so me and a girl friend went. The massages were great! I do agree with the other comments on the fact that they barely speak English. The owner does try though and can hold up a conversation for a while. The massage was so good and the price was so great that I came back twice after, once with my boyfriend and another time for my parents. They loved it! . I purchased a $30 Groupon for a 60 minute Swedish Massage. The Spa is in a busy Mahopac area, but I was able to park easily. I went into the Spa and was brought into a room by my Masseuse Lily. I do not get massages very often, but was feeling very sore from my workouts. Lily proceeded to work out the kinks in my back neck and legs taking her time to probe and prod every spot on my back. Very soft music is playing in the back round and all conversation is in very low tones. A very mellow atmosphere. By the end of the massage, I was totally relaxed and felt great. No complaints here. I had a lovely deep tissue massage with Lucy, who clearly knew what she was doing. She repeatedly asked if I was ok, and would adjust accordingly. The massage table was very comfortable. You are asked to keep on your underwear. At first, the massage was being done through a large towel. After a while, it became skin on skin, using lotion. Then, hot stones and hot towels were used. Mmmmm. The place is different than most "spas." There are a bunch of "private" rooms on the left, with curtains for doors, and walls that almost went to the ceiling, so you could hear sounds going on. There was also a row of low beds in the main room, and that must be where they do reflexology. I would go back. Oh and I used a Groupon, and had no problems with that. read more

My husband and I had too different service (full body and foot reflexology) by two different people, both of whom were terrific. They asked about trouble spots, focus areas, and places to stay aware from. They were attentive and did exactly what we asked for. They both checked in to ensure that the pressure was just right. I have visited this spa in the past and have always had good massages. I recently had a bad experience that I wanted to share. I wear glasses and put my glasses in my purse. When the massage was over, I put my glasses on and there was oil all over one of my lenses. My hands had no oil on them. The only conclusion I have is that someone went through my purse (my wallet had oil on it too). I have since locked down all my credit cards, bank accounts etc. Needless to say I won't be going back and I have learned NEVER bring in your personal items when you get a massage. read more

I bought a 60 min massage on Groupon. The overall experience on 4/1/2018 at Mahopac Spa was poor for several reasons. The staff spoke little to no English, which was a HUGE challenge. My masseuse had to get a manager during the massage to translate. Halfway through the massage a new masseuse came to finish my massage, which was terrible. Also, there was constant whispering outside the curtain during my massage. The masseuse gave the massage over the towel for 75% of the massage rather than direct skin contact. Due to the above, I could not relax. Overall, I was very disappointed with the massage and service. I base my tip on service. I was told by whom I presume was another manager that my tip wasn't sufficient and that there is a minimum tip requirement of $10. Horrible experience. I will not return no matter the price on Groupon. It was a waste of my time and money. read more

This was a horrible experience. Purchased a groupon for THREE massages. The first massage was underwhelming. I was freezing the whole time and the woman clearly had no training in massage. I figured I would go back and use the remaining two as a couples massage. Upon entering, the owner told us we had to have a "card" for our remaining massages. We did not have this card, and gave him the groupon code. He said this code was already used, and claimed that I had already used two hours, so I only had one hour remaining, and my boyfriend would have to pay for his massage. I explained that I had only used one massage and had two left. He started talking about us to the other staff in chinese as they laughed and carried on with us having no idea what they were saying. SO RUDE! . Not one person claims to speak english, so good luck having a conversation. The owner said "Don't worry, if you have no card, I give you good price", and tried to force us to pay for the massage that we had already paid for with groupon!!!! Outrageous, rude, and humiliating. Where to begin. If you can imagine a massage at The Overlook you've set your expectations correctly. When I walked in it said Foot Spa and my heart sank because I was getting a full Swedish. Normally they ask you what areas you like and I tried to emphasize upper body but it was like he didn't care. The sign on the room said "please leave underwear on" so god knows what clientele they're used to working on. The place was freezing, there was no door, there was a tremendous amount of noise and they didn't even have sheets on the damn table. I'm standing there semi-nude wondering if I've been pranked. The pressure, holy crap, the pressure was so much (despite asking for moderate) that I felt like I was being mugged or something. So, ambiance zero, comfort zero, hospitality zero, and most importantly massage zero.
