If I could leave 0 stars, I would. I wanted so much to like this practice, but unfortunately I had…read morea truly awful experience with Midwives of NJ that left me feeling traumatized, dismissed, and completely disrespected. I switched to this practice halfway through my pregnancy, hoping for a more holistic and supportive approach to birth. What I received instead was negligent, unprofessional, and emotionally harmful care. During labor, the midwife failed to keep me or my husband informed, despite my birth plan explicitly stating that communication was important to me. When we asked what was going on, we were brushed off with, "Oh nothing, she's just being a naughty baby." Naughty? That's how they explain fetal distress? Got it. When my water broke and the fluid was green, I asked what that meant. I was told not to worry, but overheard her immediately tell her assistant that they needed to get the baby out ASAP. It was terrifying to be kept in the dark during such a critical moment. Thank God for my husband, who looked everything up and kept me informed. The midwife also never asked my permission before attempting to insert an internal fetal monitor... mind you something she had never done before. How do I know? Because she literally said "I never done this before. Could I try?" AND Instead of checking with me, she asked the OB resident if she could do it, and then proceeded to insert it incorrectly. For a full minute, they couldn't detect a heartbeat. I thought my baby was gone. Turns out she had attached the electrode to my vaginal wall. And rather than apologize, she laughed and said, "That doesn't have a heartbeat." I was horrified. She also told me to bear down during pushing. When I told her it didn't feel right for my body, she insisted: "That's the only way we're going to get her out. It's the most effective way -- listen to me." Bearing down made my heart rate spike and I felt incredibly unsafe. Then she had the audacity to tell me to calm down. The entire interaction was controlling, condescending, and dismissive of my bodily autonomy. Post-birth, I asked to keep my placenta for planting, and was told no because I had COVID. I clarified I wasn't planning to ingest it, just plant it in the garden. She responded, "No, it's dirty blood." Again, completely uncalled for and judgmental. She also wanted to suture me using a technique she had never done before, without my consent, until the OB stopped her. Postpartum support was just as bad. They said a midwife would visit the day after delivery, no one came. The next night, someone showed up at 9 PM, stayed for five minutes, and when I asked a question about latching, she told me to ask the hospital lactation consultant and left. At my 6-week follow-up, I asked for an IUD. When I asked if they use local anesthesia (because yes, that procedure can be painful), the midwife laughed and said, "You birthed a child, you'll be fine." They said they'd order the IUD and contact me when it came in -- weeks went by, nothing. I followed up multiple times, left a voicemail, and never heard back. Even the clinic environment was off-putting. Christian music playing in the waiting room made the space feel exclusionary and uncomfortable for those who don't share the same beliefs. All in all, this practice caused more stress than support. I left feeling like a burden instead of a person giving birth. My husband and I genuinely feel we would've had a better experience delivering on the side of the road than in the care of the midwife we had. I regret ever trusting this practice with my care and would never recommend them to anyone.

I had a wonderful experience for a gyn visit. The midwife was very kind and warm. The physical exam was one of the more dignifying that I have experienced. I paid $75 up front, and then they billed my insurance for out-of-network. The claim was denied twice, and I thought they were crazy for persisting, but apparently that is just the insurance game. Finally my insurance company agreed to pay some more since there isn't any other midwifery practice considered in-network. I am glad they will be further compensated!

She was knowledgable, funny, and kind. When it comes to breastfeeding - which is one of the hardest things that I ever did - I felt as though no one really talks about it. The clogged ducts, problems with latching, PAIN, exhaustion, mastitis, being tethered to your baby for what seems like forever, cluster feeding, low milk production, pumping, and on and on!!!! Tack on the guilt and shame you can feel when nothing seems to be going right, and you have yourself a recipe for a heaping dose of PPD. I was LOST and felt ALONE. Catherine not only knew what to do, she was an unconditional supporter of everything I needed and wanted to do throughout the process. No judgement. Not pushy. She always knew exactly what to say to steer my thought process into a productive and positive place (AND make me laugh). I cannot recommend her enough and I'm not sure what I would have done if she didn't come into our lives. I was able to make the best decisions about my breastfeeding journey for me and my baby BECAUSE of her. If you feel like any of the above, just know that there is help, and her name is Catherine :) Thank you, Catherine. Me and my little dude are forever grateful. Xo

We started working with Dr Tadros when he was about 7 weeks old... by 10 weeks my son was able to latch and was receiving most of his at home meals directly from me vs the bottle. When he was using the bottle, he was much more efficient and we weren't losing most of my pumped milk to his shirt! We've now been working together for 3 months and his head shape has drastically improved and he's stronger than ever -- he just loves tummy time! She also has given us tons of advice for at-home activities, toys and other supports. I'm actually not sure what we'd do at home with our kids, if it wasn't for her guidance. We're now working with Dr Tadros to help our daughter (they're twins) with some muscle tightness and feeding issues. At 16 weeks my daughter finally learned to latch, her clicking while on the bottle has stopped, and like her brother, she's much more efficient while feeding from the bottle. I can't recommend Dr Tadros enough. She has been a Godsend to our family!

Prior to the birth, she met with me and my husband multiple times, and gave us excellent guidance, including how to manage contractions, and understanding what I could say "no" to in the hospital (like having an IV placed at the start of labor). I wanted to avoid and epidural and have fewer interventions during the birth, and thanks in large part to Emily I was able to have the labor that I wanted. Throughout my pregnancy and then postpartum, Emily was communicative and caring. She came to my home after the birth and showed me some additional strategies for breastfeeding, and has checked in on me multiple times just to see how I was doing. If you're looking for a doula who is really knowledgeable and passionate about birth work, don't hesitate to contact her!

Emily made herself available to us during the class, but also in the weeks following, to act as a support for any other questions that came up. We are so lucky to have found her!

At our first visit, I knew I wanted my child to be born in this peaceful place - it had none of the sterile, mechanical & "busy" feeling of the hospital where our first child was born. The orientation class held by Beth Ann was very informative, and created a sense of familiarity, especially when we ended up having Beth Ann as our nurse. I was well into active labor when we arrived at the birth center, but as soon as I walked into the birthing suite, I felt a complete sense of security & confidence. We immediately got into the shower for hydrotherapy while Beth Ann prepared the bathtub. The room & bathroom were impeccably clean, and somehow everything we needed was concealed but close at hand - from a birthing ball to towels to a puke bag from the dresser drawer! The best part of the experience for us was the intimacy - my spouse, doula, nurse, and midwife were right there, focusing only on caring for me. There was no in & out of nurses, or additional personnel in the room. I felt completely safe and protected, even through the intensity of the delivery. My daughter was born in the birthing tub and I was the one to pull her out of the water and into my arms. Once she was born, everything was so relaxed and we could truly enjoy those first few moments. Beth Ann & our birthing team took such wonderful care of me after the birth, ensuring that my husband knew exactly how to care for me & my daughter at home. We left the birth center about 4 hrs after the birth and it was so comforting to sleep in our own bed that night! My recovery was much quicker than with my first birth, and I contribute that in part to the unmedicated, gentle waterbirth I was able to achieve at Our Birthing Center. Knowing now the extraordinary level of care, encouragement, and medical expertise available at the birthing center, I wouldn't give birth any other way!
