We decided to give this place another try based on convenience to our location. Unfortunately you should be prepared for an unfriendly staff, and slow service. The menu is on par for Boerne, overpriced serving mediocre food. A pint of refried beans $7.50, served very runny, these are the bag of pre- cooked beans from a supplier, they evidently used an improper amount of water for reheating. The tortillas are $10.20 per dozen, which is hard to justify considering most places charge less than half that price for fresh tortillas. We also ordered their Mexican plate $15.99, the taco was served sitting in gravy-soggy shell, cheese enchiladas were okay at best, and again the beans were runny-watery. The chips obviously come from a bag, and many were broken into small pieces. The salsa was actually good, but served in squeeze bottles instead of bowls. This visit confirmed for us that it's worth passing up, despite the convenient location, I'd rather drive an additional 30-minutes farther to San Antonio where you actually get quality food made from scratch in-house at less than half the price with welcoming staff. Unfortunately, Boerne seriously lacks quality restaurant options, and this is just another example. read more

Salsa and queso were bland, and it took forever for staff to get to my table. In addition to that, the chips were rather chewy.

We have been back several times and like it so much better now that we understand 'their system'. It is seat yourself at an open table, unless there is a wait. There is not a specific server assigned to your table - just make eye contact with any of them. They are always fast and efficient. The Fideo w/ Picadillo was probably some of the best that I"ve ever had! It was a little pricey, but the portion was huge! Mague's Special Plate is also very good! My wife had the Enchiladas Verde, and she said they were also very good. It is a smaller restaurant, with tight seating, but it is clean, bright and cheerful. Will definitely be back! read more

We had yummy food but the service was pretty slow. The waiter brought out my food and we had to wait another 15-20 minutes for my husband's meal. They do not have a bar, or a fountain soda. They don't have queso, and I was disappointed in the lack of salsa to dip chips. The restaurant is small, disorganized and needs a remodel. To start, when visiting on a very busy Saturday morning the service was terrific despite other reviews trashing it. The young man serving us made suggestions and the restaurant was happy to do 2 different types of enchiladas on the same entree plate although enchilada combos weren't on the menu. They even stopped us while we were preparing to leave to top off our tea to-go cups. It's clean and cheerful inside, a little loud but in a social local way. Lots of families. The prices are very very reasonable. A couple of beef items were $10-$12 but everything else was below $10. There's a big tray of Mexican pastries in the middle of the dining room. Looked delish but I wanted to save my appetite for my gordita picadillo and enchiladas. Glad I did because the picadillo was incredibly flavorful (unusual for this often bland beef and potato comfort food). I'd come back just for the picadillo. The green enchilada was bright and zingy and the chicken tender and moist. The mole enchilada had very deep complex flavors. Very rich. Good breakfast plates, solid beans and rice. Try the Mague's Special Taco for a yummy switch up on breakfast tacos. Very good house made tortillas. I wasn't a fan of the green salsa on the table nor the relleno, but that's a matter of taste. Went back and the only English speaking lady there gave me quite the attitude saying I ordered wrong etc while rolling her eyes an cocking an attitude the whole time no apology. Magues is an established Tex Mex restaurant that serves good food and obviously run by family. We moved to Boerne 2 years ago and has been a favorite eatery but recently we have noticed the plate prices have gone considerably higher than last couple of years! disappointing to say the least. we understand grocery prices have gone up but to go up 30 to 40 percent is gouching! We paid $8.99 for the Popurry plate and now it's $15.99. Sorry to say but we can go down the street for great food and prices. read more

I have lived in boerne my whole life and no restaurant has made it so hard to leave like magues does. The employees are always chipper and accommodating. I gave them four stars as the best overall Mexican food in Boerne. Good restaurants are scarce in Boerne. The food here was super hot, fresh and tasty. This is my new go to restaurant in Boerne. I had the Mexican plate and my wife had the Fiesta plate. It was a lot of food and the crispy taco was extra perfect. Wrapping up the meal I went for a tortilla. The tortilla was very magical as it was one of the best I have had in awhile. To be clear compared to other Mexican restaurants in San Antonio I would rate this more of a 3 than a 4. We enjoyed a side of pico de gallo and felt it was worth the extra $1-2. It was not as full of tomatoes just the way we like it. read more

This is their Caldo de Pollo and I also got a Menudo and let me tell you it has been the best I have ever tasted here in the hill country. Very generic food, scrambled eggs were served in tiny pieces as if it was leftover egg, chilaquiles were cold, dry and mostly cheese, beans tasted like canned beans, and the menudo was horrible. Definitely not made by an experienced cook, they left the seeds in the chili sauce there was hardly any hominy. Service was prompt and server was attentive. I gave this place a try even though a number of friends recommended that it was bad. Unfortunately it was even worse. On the positive side my waitress was fine. I started with bean and cheese nachos. They were horrible and burned (see photo). Then I had a Mexican Plate which consisted of a beef taco, cheese enchiladas, refried beans, and rice.
