Second visit more $$$ was told I had a heavy bite and they ground down my bridge, it did not fix my issue, 3rd visit more $$$ I was referred to a specialist who found the issue was I needed a root canal and it did not take long to figure it out, and they did not take the time to see if that dentist took my insurance so more money out of my pocket. Either the Texas City Family dentist is rushing through patients and recommending the Periodontal cleaning to keep their people busy and no one there can read an x-ray, either way I was in pain for over 4 months and they billed my insurance for the first visit which I paid for because they were going to charge my insurance more than $400 and it was going to be a special of $75 or $80 they still charged my insurance even after I paid the fees. I have lost all confidence and trust in this dentist office; they play Christian music but does not seem to fit the pattern of how they operate. So be careful to find out how much up front for cash and insurance get a second opinion because I am not sure they are paying attention. My best to everyone I hope this saves someone the frustration I went through.

After I moved to Galveston, I discovered I needed a dentist. I first tried one here on the island…read moreand liked him, but he was so busy he couldn't do the work for three months. I needed something done sooner than that. I asked a local resident I met at the pool and she said, "Go off island. Check out Texas City Family Dentistry; so I did. Let me be up front with you: I don't have dental insurance and I'm scared s---less about dentists. I haven't been for many years because of past experiences and I wouldn't have gone now if I didn't have an issue. I have a real fear of dentist, but, I put on my "Big girl Pants" and off I went. After my first visit to TCFD, I am SO GLAD I DID! These people are AWESOME! Dr. Patterson is so friendly and thorough; and Jessica, the hygienist, is gentle! They took a million x-rays (including using some little pencil type one inside my mouth - never saw that before). We worked up a care plan - I need one filling and deep cleaning. I will get this starting next week in two sessions. The prices were the same as the one on island - no surprise there - but using Care Credit, I can pay over 12 months no interest, so that's perfect. What I did like was instead of paying for my whole mouth to be planed, the hygienist goes through measuring each tooth at the gum line and only planes the ones that need it so I saved some money on one quadrant because it did not need it. Very good for the budget! Also Dr. Patterson took a more conservative approach to the tooth that the other dentist said needed a crown. We are going to try a filling first and only put a crown on if we have to. So I like that. All in all I was very satisfied with the initial consultation. Jessica, the hygienist, could see I was very nervous, so she put some numbing rinse in my mouth. OMG - this is miracle stuff! I hardly felt her digging away at my gums at all during the measuring and partial cleaning. When I come back for deep cleaning, she says this will help me not feel the needles so she can dig deeper. In addition to the extra numbing rinse, there is a tv on the ceiling. They give you a remote and earphones to help distract you - I watched a session of Good Bones! Between the swishy stuff and the tv, I was as relaxed as I've ever been at the dentist. I'll write more when I come back for the drilling and the deep cleaning. AFTER 1ST TREATMENT: I was really nervous about going today to get my work done. I got the swishy stuff right away; but, unfortunately, Dr. Patterson came in right after the swishing so it didn't have as much time to "work." However, I didn't feel the numbing needles at all except for the two to the roof of my mouth. But I was told they're not pleasant no matter what. After I got through that, he let me sit for awhile to numb up. I was excited about getting the TV going to distract me; but, unfortunately, the headphones wouldn't connect with the tv so I had no sound. I can honestly say I didn't "feel" any of the drilling, but my mind plays games with me so I did have some struggles getting through it without the distractions of the tv. We had to pause a couple of times to let me get myself together. But I made it and it honestly didn't hurt. It was only my nerves getting to me. After the filling, they moved me to a room where the tv system worked for the planing. I had no troubles there at all because of the distraction of the tv and Jessica was awesome. She really is a super great hygienist. If you're like me - have a real phobia of dental work - I highly recommend Dr. Patterson and Jessica. I honestly think after going to them for a while, I'll get over a lot of my fears; maybe even all of them! I"m much more optimistic now about keeping my teeth healthy

Dr. Yang at the Galleria is amazing. She does a thorough job of explaining what and why she is…read moredoing various steps. I had a difficult root canal to accomplish and she did it with skill and expertise. I wish she had done my previous four root canals over my life. What an amazing difference! Despite the fact that my referring dentist did not send any information or records to them, her office took the initiative to contact my provider and explain what was done, telling them they should call me for immediate follow up to avoid further cracking of the tooth.

I can't say enough good things about this place and Dr. Yang. They are just on another level when…read moreit comes to root canals with their equipment and expertise and can handle the difficult root canals that general dentists aren't equipped to do or perhaps correct a mistake of a previous dentist *cough* after you've already got a crown or already had a root canal that didn't get sealed up right or whatever other horror show you're dealing with. Honestly, I'm even debating whether I would just come here first even for a more routine root canal which hopefully I won't need because they are so precise and don't drill the holes any bigger than they need to be. Cost-wise, they ARE more expensive than your regular dentist if you're comparing apples to apples but you're really not comparing apples to apples here because all they do here is root canals and specialize in it. Having said that, I felt the price wasn't outrageous and fair given the quality of work and saving my tooth. The only room for improvement is getting the notes and referral papers back and forth from your general dentist and them. They not only did not receive the notes my dentist had sent them but they also failed to send their notes to her on that day so you might want to call and double check that they got everything before you go there and have to pretend to be a dentist- pro tip: If you want to sound smart, remember the tooth numbers and use fancy terms like "referred pain".

I had a root canal many years ago and my crown recently got cracked after years of wear and tear…read more My dentist referred me to this place and I was able to get an appointment for a consultation the same day. The dental assistant, Lori, was very nice and took great care of me. Dr. Vogel was also nice. He made sure to explain the whole process of a root canal retreat and what I could expect. Also that with every procedure, there could be unexpected changes once they get in there. After a brief consultation they did some panoramic X-rays and I got on the schedule for the next week. Fast forward a week and I showed up for my appointment. We got started after Dr. Vogel explained what he was going to do and me telling him my concerns from the previous root canal. Unfortunately things did not go as planned since my tooth had some infection in the root. Dr. Vogel explained that we would not be able to finish up and he was going to clean out as much infection as he could and get me a temporary filling so we could go over my next step options. After everything, he took the time to call my dentist and speak with them about what I needed next. He sent them the X-rays he took and waited with me while we discussed the plan. He told me that he was not going to charge me for the root canal since he wasn't able to do it and instead charged me for an incomplete. I appreciate that and it ended up saving me a lot of money in the end... especially since I will now be visiting an oral surgeon. While I hope I never have to have another root canal, I would definitely come back to Dr. Vogel and highly recommend him for any endodontic needs.

My husband is disabled and suffered a stroke that significantly affected his mobility and cognitive…read moredecision-making. Because of this, I attend my husbands appointments as his support person and representative. When called back for our appointment, I accompanied him to the exam room to help him as he cannot walk unassisted. The dental assistant escorted us to the room and took x rays. I stood behind the wall and then she asked me to have a seat in the exam room. Dr. Brian Duncan proceeded to come in with an extremely dismissive and a negative attitude. He asked my husband about the visit and I helped answer as my husband cannot longer communicate effectively. I asked if I could explain why our prior doctor referred us to come here. Dr. Brian Duncan proceeded to snap that I have "broken protocol". His protocol was that I was not allowed to represent my husband and could not assist my husband during this appointment. He proceeded to say "this is not going to work" and walked out of the room with no further explanation. This was extremely distressing, especially considering my husband cannot walk independently and relies on my assistance to navigate medical visits. For a patient with disabilities and cognitive impairment, compassion and flexibility should be the standard of care. Instead, we felt dismissed and treated with a complete lack of empathy by Dr. Brian Duncan. Dr. Brian Duncan should understand that caregivers and family members are often essential advocates for vulnerable patients. I hope this office reconsiders how they handle situations involving disabled patients and their caregivers in the future.
