If you're ever lost and wind up in Markham, head to the food court located in First Markham Place. Besides the numerous Asian food kiosks, there is one bold enough to claim "the best spaghetti bolognese in town". I am one never to refuse a challenge and immediately ordered one with an extreme look of doubt on my face. I upgraded to a lemon ice tea for only $1.50 extra which was flavorful and not watered down with plenty of lemon slices. The bolognese spaghetti came in a large rectangular tin, baked with alot of cheese and a very meaty sauce, wowza! When I was a child I loved eating Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meatballs. On the very first taste, these wonderful memories gushed into my brain. Soft/overcooked spaghetti (could have been a little more al dente but then again I wasn't expecting Italian restaurant quality in an Asian food court) smothered in meaty sweet tomato sauce covered in cheese. I swear the ratio of sauce to pasta is 50/50 ( for all the sauce lovers out there ), after all, who likes eating dry spaghetti. I know to the so called Italian cuisine connoisseurs this spaghetti would be considered blasphemy but to each their own. While everyone else in the food court was eating their dumplings, noodles and BBQ meats, I gorged myself on my spaghetti and needed at least 2 large napkins to wipe off the large orange/red stain around my mouth. "The best spaghetti bolognese in town", I am now a true believer.

    Satay Chicken Skewer ($11.50)

One of my go-to food court spots. I've been coming here for MANY years. The food and menu is consistent and the owner is amazing. This spot serves Hong Kong staples. Prices are good and portions are good! I love that most of these combos come with a drink and soup. At my most recent visit, I ordered the Satay Chicken Skewer on Rice with a cold lemon tea ($11.50). The flavours were really good, super filling, and it comes in a reusable take out container to bring home too. Their menu is extensive and they serve rice/spaghetti dishes, wings, sandwiches, noodle soup, HK snacks, desserts, etc. Also, during big holidays, I know they take turkey orders which is usually stuffed with sticky rice. This spot really does it all. Overall, this spot is a staple to the FMP food court. It's been here since forever, and I hope it stays that way.

Spaghetti Bolognese with HK Milk Tea

Location/Service This place is located within inside the First Markham Place food court. It's by the side near the bakery/cell phone booth. The sign is pretty obvious - very colourful and a lot of menu items available all over. Staff are pretty nice and orders are done relatively quickly. Cash payment only - typical standard food court layout. Food They standardized in HK cafe style setup - so you have your breakfast items like egg/ham/toast or macaroni noodles. There are also snacks like fried chicken wings or fried toasts. Then there's also your standard meal sets like the one I ordered, Spaghetti Bolognese (~$10.99). All their meal sets come with a drink of choice. The bolognese is pretty good - huge in quantity and with plenty of sauce. The meat itself can be a bit more - but it is very filling and comforting. Their milk tea is pretty standard, not super smooth - but not bad quality or watery. This place as far I remember has been here since the food court opened - so I'm glad it's still running business during this tough time and have established a good clientele. They also do party trays - so it's perfect during big gatherings/holiday season.

A First Markham Place Foodcourt Fave!!!! A First Markham Place Foodcourt Fave!!! Since I moved to Markham a few years ago, I have been going regularly to First Markham Place mostly for shopping, haircuts and of course the Food Court!! I have tried many of the food booths and this one, Magic Fusion Cuisine is a very well known Hong Kong Cafe Style Food booth in the Markham Central Area. Many times when visiting this mall or looking for something to bring home for a quick meal, I've stopped here to get food. I've eaten quite a few items from the menu, but one of our favourites is the Spaghetti Bolognese, which their version is not bad at all. Keep in mind this is not Folco's of Unionvile's Bolognese or classic Italian Bolognese which I have had at countless Italian Restaurants all over North America, but a very good, Mega Cheesy version which is a hit at our house any day. This version of Bolognese is served in a tray and it's only ten dollars ( last time I got it ). It's enough to feed 2 adults and two kids and have leftovers, so that's a plus for parents and out of town visitors looking for a quick meal. On one of my last visits during the pandemic, many of the food booths had tables outside the mall where you could order food and they would go and bring it to you. Their food is also available from the typical food delivery services like Uber Eats or Fantuan. Since I always like to try new things, on the last visit I picked up three times, yes, I got the Bolognese, but also a dish with a large Deep Fried Chicken Wing with a fried egg, rice and veggies and curried braised beef. This was a recommendation from one of the guys manning the table outside. As usual, everything was delicious and cheap. Although I do eat from some of the other food booths at First Markham Place, Magic Fusion Cuisine is a hallmark of consistency, quality and affordability. If you're at First Markham Place give them a try yourself.

I don't care if there are cockroaches in the kitchen...we all know that's kind of unavoidable, but please keep it out of my sight .
    Jessica C.

Cockroach image alert!!! The food is quite good, not amazing for the price, but quite good. However I wasn't too happy about paying full price for an iced milk tea when the meal comes with a free hot drink. Normally restaurants only charge an extra $1-1.50 for an "upgrade". We didn't get straws either, but maybe it was a blessing in disguise...because halfway through the drink as the ice melted we saw a little COCKROACH floating on top. We all know cockroaches are unavoidable in restaurants...but please keep it out of my sight!!!

I've been here many times, and my favourite meal to order here is the Egg & Corned Beef Sandwich with a side of Fries. Simple, filling, and delicious. Their other dishes are great too! Like their Smoked Salmon pasta, and their Black Pepper Sauce Chicken with rice/spaghetti. I would highly recommend people to try this place out. Only downside to this the PARKING at First Markham Place. It is very tough to find a good parking spot closer to the mall entrance. FYI: Enter the mall from Door B. It is the closest to the Food Court, in my opinion! Cheers~ :)

fried pork chop and egg on rice w/ tomato sauce and veggies
    John D.

This is in the food court of First Markham Place so there's lots of parking and seats. This tasted pretty generic and plain but was filling. The fried pork chop had a very light breading which I appreciated and it wasn't too oily. Kind of hard to screw up the rice, egg, and veggies, so those were ok. My biggest issue with this was the tomato sauce which had a really weird taste to it. It almost tasted like canned tomato sauce with a touch of cream to make it less tangy. Came with cold soya milk. With so many options in the court, I'd be hard pressed to return anytime soon. Rating: 2 bootleg DVDs out of 5

    Angela L.

I love black pepper sauce so seeing that they have a black pepper sauce on spaghetti here, I decided to try it out. However it wasn't as good as I expected. It's on the bland side, probably because they are pretty stingy on the sauce even tho I asked for extra sauce. However their curry fish ball is a decent snack to get.

Eggshell in the Daan Ow Jee. I might be able to understand a small bit or two, but this eggshell was the size of a nickel! How does any chef not notice that when mixing the egg batter :(

Instant noodles with steak/eggs ($8.50) came with hk milk tea Standard breakfast food, just had a craving so decided to order it. The place is nicely decorated with a large selection of food. Quality of food is pretty standard, met my expectations but it weren't set too high to begin with. Milk tea is pretty fresh tasting, recommend you add a bit more sugar though - it's on the blander tasting side. That aside the instant noodles had good boyancy and seemed freshly made. They forgot to mix my MSG powder so first couple bites didn't have much flavour. Just took a bite with all the powder inside which was extremely salty. Bit disappointing that they didn't just mix it for me ahead of time. Steak and eggs was average as well. Great for being available but the food is only alright but for the price it's definitely not worth it.

I had the Spaghetti Bolognese and it was really good. The cheesy tomato sauce with ground beef is delicious. This is the best comfort food when you're hungry, the portion is quite big!

I'd then sit in my car and eat before heading home. I did it well before COVID-19 was a thing. I still eat in my car these days, especially when I'm hangry. This restaurant's location hasn't changed. However, it now has two lanes that end up converging by the time you hit the first drive-thru window. I came here on a Friday night. I pulled out my McD's app to provide a code to collect points. I felt like a quarter pounder with cheese combo and got one. I got regular fries and a Diet Coke, which seem to be my usual order as of late. The woman at the drive-thru was nice. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. My drink came out first, followed by my food in a paper bag. I thanked her and happily drove home without cursing at any bad drivers. My quarter pounder with cheese hit the spot. It was yummy. My fries looked a bit droopy and sad, as if they wanted to be potato contortionists when they grew up. However, they tasted yummy and salted nicely despite their soggy appearance. My drink washed everything down. It was icy cold and didn't taste watered down. It was nice returning here to relive memories being a regular McD's customer. It has improved since I was last here. I'd return when I'm in the area again. (54)

The crème brûlée doughnut was a nice treat. Though I wouldn't come to McDonald's just to order it, I do think if you're curious, it's probably worth it. I felt that the maple iced and caramel filled doughnut as well as the apple fritter and Boston cream doughnuts were similarly delicious. I don't know that it really stacks up against any speciality shop or even Tim Hortons but I would say it was worth the price. Similarly, though I don't typically order them, I tried a selection of their smoothies and actually found them quite pleasant too. The real star was their peach passion fruit smoothie. I would definitely order this again. It was sweet, tangy, and just a pleasant surprise. I also found the strawberry banana smoothie and blueberry pomegranate smoothie to be quite good but my personal addiction to peach flavoured drinks means the the peach passion fruit will always come first. They all come in festive cups to boot for the holidays. If you were wondering if any of these items were worth the try, I'd definitely give them a go as you might find them surprisingly good. Also, if you haven't tried the Apple pies yet, they are always delicious (though I suspect many of you have already experience these little delights). As a side note, they are just better in Canada than in other parts of the world due to the method of preparation. I think Canada bakes them and other countries deep fry them. You'd be surprised at the difference. I would however avoid the "li'l doughnuts". I found them disgusting. Timbits are way better. The next things on my list to try are the festive ginger cookies. Though I found most of these items good, they are chalk full of sugar which makes little, if anything, about them nutritious. They are also likely filled with refined sugars too but I'm sure none of us are going to McDonald's for the health benefits so perhaps give these a try next time you're there.

It took two people fifteen minutes to make it. - Communication to the customer on how long it would take for my order to be ready wasn't stellar. On Wednesday night, after driving home from Mississauga, I felt like a milkshake. Where should I get one? I remembered that the Boardwalk Fries Burgers Shake location in Scarborough that I had visited months ago offered milkshakes. I also remembered this Boardwalk location in Markham. It used to be South St. Burger. Markham used to have two locations. It now has zero, which is a downer. I came here at nearly 9 pm. There were lots of parking spots. I pulled into one and entered the store. The Boardwalk is a combo store with Lava Grill. There is one entrance for both eateries. I walked in. There was a couple enjoying a meal. I was the only person at the order area, which is shared between the two eateries. It took a while for the man at Boardwalk to come over. He was making burgers. I ordered these items: - Strawberry shake without whipped cream - Dubai chocolate brownie I paid with a credit card. Done. Communication is an issue here. This man continued making burgers and fries. He didn't let me know how long it would take to make my order. I wasn't in a rush, but I didn't know that it would take fifteen minutes for two folks to try and make my milkshake. I did like that the press for the burgers automatically came down on the patties and had a timer. I also watched fries go into hot oil and the basket automatically come up once the fries were done. It was also on a timer. I noticed that burger man got Lava guy to make my shake. They both went into the back. Burger man came back to assemble the burgers. Lava guy was still in the back. My guess was that there was some issue making my shake. Again, I got no communication until Lava guy came out to look at my order and told me it would be two minutes. Um, sure. I didn't believe it. I was right. I decided to sit down. Burger guy had finished making the burgers. He went outside. He came back in. His first communication to me was two fingers up in the area. Two minutes or victory?! Five minutes later, I saw a shake come out from the back. Lava guy was holding it. Lava guy took a box with a brownie and packed it in a paper bag. I got a napkin, a fork, and a spoon. He handed me a pretty strawberry shake and my paper bag. I thanked both guys, more relieved than anything, and left. I got into my car and drove home. Despite the wait and the lack of decent communication, the two items that I had were excellent. The strawberry milkshake was yummy. I loved the strawberry flavour. It was creamy and enjoyable. I had the Dubai chocolate brownie yesterday. It was so good. I loved the crispy bits with pistachio cream and a delectable, moist brownie layer. Yum! I'm thinking that ordering online and coming here to pick up my order would be best. This place seems to take its time because it seems to be on its own time. Boardwalk has happy hour deals at night. I may give it a try next time. Here's hoping that communication is better. (190)

They do charge tax so it ended up being $19 flat. Both dishes also came with a beverage, and I think soy milk is the only cold one without an additional upcharge so we both ordered that. The fried noodles were a great portion - the taste was pretty average. The main flavour is salt! For the soup noodles, it was actually pretty good - they gave 3 large pork and shrimp wontons, and a couple pieces of beef which were tasty and well marinated. I will say that the noodles themselves lacked any real flavour, but such is the case with most rice noodles. I'd definitely get it again for the price. This place is a definite must-try. The place has a few spots to eat, and the decor is beyond adorable and fitting. I couldn't get enough of the potato puns. The gentleman was incredibly nice in explaining what the top favs were and was even nice to allow me to add an ingredient, as one of my spuds had something removed (no coleslaw for me). My order consisted of Mexican Fiesta and Nashville Chick. My husband took his Mexican fiesta potato as is, but I ended up switching my pulled chicken for fried chicken. The potatoes were amazing! It hasn't even been a week, and I'm already jonesing for my next potato bar experience.
