I stopped by Magic Cycles whom I found to be very knowledgeable in setting up the Santa Cruz Megatower that I rented for a day. Great shop! We drove from Johnson City to check out a Giant bike that I'd been researching. Wasn't really planning on pulling the trigger, but I did. Also picked up a Liv bicycle for my better half. Mechanics are very nice and helpful, put my bike in the shop for an issue with my rear suspension ended up taking over 6 weeks and was very difficult to get any sort of update on the status of my bike. Had to call every few days to see what was up and seemed that nothing got started until I went into talk to them in person. Wouldn't recommend for service. read more

Crooks stay away. On July 2020 I took my bike that I had purchased from them to replace the chain that was skipping. I was charged for a new chain and a new cassette. The first strange sign was that I asked to see the old cassette to understand what was wrong and they didn't have it. The cassette looked the same. The first time I rode, I noticed that the last gear was still skipping. There was a lot of rain in July and August in this area so I did not ride much and was waiting for another bike I had ordered from them. I took the bike back the first week of September, First they said everything was ok, then I showed them, so they were going to look at it again, they called me later and told me I need it a new cassette, the one on the bike was old and worn, I said on the phone that they had changed and charged me for a new cassette in July, they said that the July "work order" did not include replacing the cassette. When I got home, fortunately I had the original receipt from July and took a picture that showed they had charged me for a new cassette and send it to them. I called back a few times and was told the cassette was ordered. After a few times I called and told I would get a call back (never did) finally was ready on October 12m( over a month later) I picked it up and they wanted to charge me the cassette again. I showed the receipt and told the story to the owner this time, first he tried to BS me that I need it a new chain again, after confirming that the new chain was ok they change the story and told me I had used too much the cassette. I told them to look at the July "work order", first they said they didn't have it, then they saw it only had the chain replaced BUT NOT the cassette, even though they charged me for both. Then he tried to convince me that I had ruined the cassette twice, so a 62 year old man ruined a new Shimano cassette in less than a month maybe in two or three rides? Finally he said pay half of the new cassette and the labor, I was tired to continue to discussing and realize this crook did not elven valued that I had spent about $10,000 in two bikes and accessories and could not admit that they had charged me twice for a Shimano cassette with less than a month used? Stay away, there are other reliable honest bike shops in Boone and In the area. These people are crooks. read more

I've been here a few times, and most recently was an amazing experience. Needed to replace the god awful stock stem on my Giant Trance 2, needed to get new tires, go tubeless, and have them checkout my rear wheel and drive train (Shimano SLX is an amazing drive btw). Everyone, especially Merve (probs got that wrong) and the dude with long hair (don't know his name but he shreds in his sleep most likely) were amazing to work with. The service was great and affordable. I talk a lot and they did not mind it, and made me feel rather welcome. Merve went over some tires with me and recommended Maxxis, a brand I am very familiar with. We then looked at stems and I saw where they are a renthal dealer, so of course I went with the tried and true Apex. The installation and tubeless conversion was flawless, there is nothing more gnarly than watching your baby get transformed within a matter of minutes. The care given to checking my shifting and brakes was the equivalent to a mamma bear protecting her cubs. Because of them, my bike is almost full enduro bro status, and pretty much feels like I'm riding a bike that Jesus himself worked on. If you take your monster with a side of unicorn piss, wear baggies, and take shredding very seriously, give the guys at Magic Cycles a look. I don't always write reviews, but when I do it's because my Fox Float DPS made it so easy to do. They love what they do, and it shows in their work and customer interactions. To sum it up, if you need the sag set, tires, stems, anything in between to give that last little bit of aggressive pumping go here. This isn't the shop Boone or Appalachian State Students need, it's the shop Boone and Students deserve! So mix up those Monsters, dial in your bikes, and go to Magic for some gnarly discussion and tips! read more

Meh. The GM spoke to me with disrespect, without reason. It was disappointing. The one place they excelled was to turn people toward Rocky Knob, not away like MTB project does. The demo's aren't well maintained and cost too much. I told my local friends about my experience and they weren't surprised. I wouldn't go here again. read more
