On a recommendation, I visited Budget Coin Laundry, on Dundas. I hadn't used a laundromat for years…read moreafter having my own washer and dryer for quite a while now, but alas, as it happens the washer stopped agitating the other day and I was left without a convenient way to do my laundry this weekend. It was Saturday morning--early. I hauled my laundry bag inside and started sorting on a small table near the back. The place was very clean and smelled like pine and lavender. A few other people were also getting an early start. Some dryers tumbled and a couple washers whirred on spin cycle. It was a pleasant and wonderfully ordinary experience. Kinda what you want when you're happy to just read a book and wash some clothes. About half an hour in, I heard what I thought to be an argument coming from the front of the Laundromat. A young woman was arguing with another older woman about the dryer lint. Turns out the young woman had cleaned her lint catcher out in the garbage where the other woman quickly (maybe agressively) clawed it out and stuffed it into a large canvas bag. I guess the young woman was caught off guard and questioned the strange behaviour and the other woman wasn't amenable to giving an explanation. The altercation cooled off quickly but it got me thinking about who actually owns the lint. Is it even ownable. Could it be put to some use? This woman clearly had some ideas about it. Maybe she's some kind of fibre artist, spinning lint into yarn and fabricating second generation sweaters and quilted blue-grey puffy pants. A resourceful enterprise to be sure. Perhaps, Budget Coin Laundry should get a cut. Or at least first dibs on a dryer lint orginal. Five Stars :)
