So when I was strolling along Portobello High Street, I came across Portobello Stationers. It did not look too impressive from the outside, few stationers do. This shop had a window display of traditional looking cards and some overly large balloons. Inside the shop is not flamboyant and seems very restrained in its appearance. The cards in the shop were not very funny and seemed very bland, perhaps like the cards you give someone you don't know well. Furthermore, the shop stocks, your normal range of stationary, gift wrap and computer accessories, all neatly stocked in their appearance. Compared to Creative Arts, this place is the reserved stationer's of Portobello. It has a good selection of stock for what it is, but it lacks that much needed character.

This place also offer a dry-cleaning a service I have never used but I do know they do it. I have received the worse service ever by a staff member in the DHL point of this shop this…read moreafternoon at around 3:20 pm. I have used this shop to send several parcels by DHL in the past with no issues at all, but today I got to experience customer service from hell. I told this particular staff member that my parcel contained mostly baby items and that I like sending my things inside my own box because things tend to go missing when they get to my home country. He obviously thought I was telling lies and burst the box in such a way it could not be used again. After he was happy with his inspection he chucked everything in a not very sturdy DHL box and then offered me help to pack it again? Like really? I suspect the DHL box won't be strong enough to hold everything and I may end up losing stuff in the way. I paid almost £80 for this service and to be treated like DIRT this afternoon. I'm 8 months pregnant and had my 6 year old autistic son by my side standing there for about 30 minutes or longer. Don't know his name, but he is the tallish,red hair guy that's usually at the front. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!

Don't get me wrong, we've definitely had worse fads, and Smart Cartridges concept of refilling the cartridges rather than paying for absolutely new ones is a fantastic idea. Trying to keep my printer functioning is one of my least favourite things to do, and with the Edinburgh University Library so close, I'm easily tempted to avoid the task altogether. However, I felt it'd be a shame not to get some new cartridges when I lived so close to the store, and was pretty impressed by their "think smart...recycle and save" slogan! I won't rave about how wonderful the cartridges are and how the shopping experience blew my mind, because, hopefully, I haven't become THAT sad, but I will say my printers going quite well for now, and the staff were really good in helping me with all the technicalities. This family run business has a very welcoming feel to it as staff really do go the extra mile to serve. Prices are competitive and there is the choice of going up to the business premises, or having supplies delivered. If they don't have what you need, they will do their utmost to source it for you. They sell a wide range of products and will be upfront about prices and quality. Problems are dealt with in an appropriate manner and in a timely fashion. From time to time there are good deals available.
