I would give 6 stars if I could! I will say that O Rapido doesn't imply quickness (but it isn't…read moreslow either). It's a sit down experience a little fancier than American Olive Garden (so you can still dress causally although it has white tablecloths). Our walking tour guide who is a Porto native also had this place on her recommendation list. As of May 2023, the construction for the new metro line makes finding O Rapido difficult. It's on the north side of Sao Bento. The price per amount served is excellent. I had the infamous Tripes soup (beans, many kinds of animal products, side of rice) and was blown away. The pork with pineapple is the best pork we have ever had. Both meals could've fed two people. We had leftovers that they graciously packaged without asking. The servers were super nice. One lady spoke pretty fluent English. Otherwise, it's more of a point to the menu (which has English subtitles) type place. The wine list is pretty extensive. They have a bathroom. Seating is inside only. They do have bakery items you can buy at the counter for take away.

Nothing is marked as GF on the menu, but the staff are very kind and willing to help find you something safe to eat. I didn't eat much here as it was just a quick stop - but the yogurt parfait (no granola) was delicious and so was my flat white latte art. Beautiful little shop and great tasting food, I did not get sick and can't recommend more!

I know what you're thinking. With a name like NOLA, you're presuming this is a Cajun-Creole…read morerestaurant or maybe even hopeful that Emeril Lagasse opened a Porto outpost of his New Orleans institution. Well, you'd be wrong. Now sit down while I tell you this is a flexitarian cafe that happens to make tasty dishes. NOLA is actually an acronym for "No Labels", a cooking philosophy that excludes preservatives, processed foods, and refined sugars. Sound dull? Not at all. Jamie W and I were pleased with the dishes we ordered. First, we shared the 12€ Cauli'n'Cheese, a toasty mix of roasted cauliflower florets and housemade vegan cheese sauce, topped with their own specialties, salty gra-NOLA and "facon bits" (Photo 8). Loved the crunch. For his entree, Jamie went for the 15€ Green Bowl, quite a healthful mix of avocado, spinach, kale, edamame, pickled onion, Granny Smith apple, and broccolini. It was also topped with the crunchy salty gra-NOLA and drizzled with lemon-miso vinaigrette (Photo 10). Very fresh tasting and probably too nutritional for my appetite since I ordered the heartier 18€ Salmon Curry with quite a pool of ginger-spiced green curry sauce. It came with a braised salmon filet accompanied by black rice, broccolini, kale, and toasted peanuts (Photo 9). It was definitely not vegan but still gluten-free and pretty satisfying. We finished off our dinner with a couple of their specialty coffee drinks, the 5€ Iced Coffee Latte with coconut sugar and cardamom for Jamie and the 6€ Iced Vanilla Latte with maple syrup and oat milk for me (Photo 7). We really liked the quiet vibe of the place, and their karmic guidelines was printed on signs everywhere. We kinda felt bad for the dutiful server who had to take care of three floors of customers connected by a precarious spiral staircase. Go for the grilled sardines. Seriously. And only the grilled sardines…read more Do not get tempted by the other grilled fish. It will arrive with potatoes and boiled kale, and somewhere between the first bite and the third potato, you'll wonder where your appetite went. Just order the grilled sardines, a bottle of Muros Antigos Alvarinho 2025, and call it a day. You can add some olives, peppers, and their soft cheese while you wait, because the sardines take a little time to make--and these are actually good for nibbling on. The ambiance? Meh. The service? Also meh. The flies? Very much not meh. You'll find yourself staring at them, contemplating whether a fly swatter should be considered an essential part of the table setting. They're annoying, but there's only so much you can do. Consider it part of the experience. But the sardines? Excellent. Charred, simple, and exactly what you should be there for.

A very beautiful, clean, modern cafe on a street opposite Igreja das Carmelitas…read more When I entered and shared that I had a reservation, which I booked through The Fork, the server who greeted me seemed confused and unsure, and told me that it probably wasn't confirmed by the manager. Fortunately after checking in it further, she was able to give me a table in the back. It took awhile for someone to take my order, and when I ordered a flat white, they informed me the machine was broken, and they only had filtered coffee. Certainly a disappointed but, hey, stuff happens. I figured I'd just get a coffee elsewhere afterwards. I ordered the Wild Eggs, and the dish came out at a reasonable pace. It was tasty, but not the best I've had in Porto so far -- the bread was stale, so the crust was so crunchy and tough that it was hard to chew. It was a good sized portion, though, so I had leftovers to take away. However, no one came back to check on me or to see if I needed the check. The servers seemed busy with other tables, and I can understand, it's a busy, popular restaurant. But I got the sense I was an annoyance, and they couldn't be bothered with me. Which I also get, because tourists aren't super welcomed by locals in Portugal. Though I've felt much more welcomed in other establishments during my stay, so it wasn't very comfortable for me here. The location, atmosphere and food is what kept this from being 2 stars, but given that the prices are on the higher end, it wouldn't be my first choice of places to revisit.
