Great. Wonderful. FUN! I don't know where to start for this review. Madrid Tapas Trail was a last minute addition to our Madrid trip, as our initial tapas tour guide "wasn't sure there would be enough people to do a tour." I suppose it fell into the 48 hour "cancellation" . Frantic, we scurried to find a new tour, as a tapas tour was a highlight of our stay in Madrid. Not the best way to begin our Spain adventure. However, Emily responded within HOURS of my request for a tour during our stay. We made arrangements for a tour in two evenings. Emily took us to tapas locations off the beaten path and also great social, traditional locations. Emily chose locations that would serve pescetarian dishes, accommodating my dietary needs. We sampled amazing wine, but also fabulous beer and sangria. She was great to talk to and easy going, making the night light, enjoyable, and memorable. Emily went above and beyond the call of "tour guide". She emailed us great restaurant recommendations, directions, even a reminder about the Madrid marathon and possible road closures before and during our stay! Unbelievable! (And quite useful!) The irony- the other travelers scheduled on the tour that night had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances. Emily still ran the tour for the two of us. Professional indeed! We spent our honeymoon in Spain in Sept 2012 and at the last minute, decided to take a tapas tour in Madrid. I emailed the tour and Emily (our tour guide) got back to us right away and was very accommodating. Initially we wanted to take the tour on a Sun but they didn't have availabilty so she added us to the Fri tour. Emily and Juan (co-tour guide) were very knowledgable about the various types of tapas, wine and cerveza that we enjoyed. They took us to multiple tapas bars and knew exactly what to order. Each bar had a special dish and we tried them all. Our first stop was a place that specializes in ham and fried egg "nachos"....need I say more? Absolutely delicious! We had a great tour group and interacted very well with each other and our tour guides. We still keep in touch with Emily and Juan to this day. Buena suerte amigos! read more

Simply put, Emily and her crew are amazing. This was our first time traveling outside of the United States, and the language barriers and cultural differences had us quite nervous about going to a different country. How wrong we were. Once we met up with Emily, Madrid opened up to us like a book. Since there weren't that many folks on the tour for our evening, she invited a couple of her acquaintances along for the tour. They were just as awesome as Emily, and really made the evening amazing. Originally we came to Madrid for the museums, the numerous tapas and bar, and the nightlife. If anyone is coming, you HAVE to get in touch with these folks, and go on their tour. I honestly wish that we did it both nights we were in town, it was that awesome. Emily is amazingly knowledgeable about Madrid, the history, the culture, everything. As we walked from tapas to tapas, she pointed out interesting landmarks, restaurant, and things that we should visit later, and stay away from. She literally turned out trip from being your run of the mill vacation into something that I'll remember forever. She was super easy to talk to, super fun to drink and eat with, and at the end of the tour, sat down with us and recommended butchers, the best Madrid paella, and even set us up with some vendors locally that would work with us and even spoke English! The crowning part was once she realized that I love cooking, recommended a "Spanish Paella Cooking Class'! I can't recommend this place enough. If you come to Madrid, do this tour. It opened doors that would have otherwise been closed, and really made us feel like we were welcome in what can be an intimidating city! read more

This was a wonderful experience and quite easily one of the highlights of a week-long trip to Madrid and its surrounding areas with a few friends of mine. Our guide Emily was knowledgeable, tremendously welcoming and showed excellent attention to detail (a few of us have glaring food allergies, which could've made this a drag if we didn't have the right guide!). The food was delicious, the restaurants authentic, quaint and unpretentious-- I'd suggest this activity to anyone (especially a food lover) in a heartbeat. The Saturday night I spent with Madrid Tapas Trail was without a doubt one of my most memorable and rewarding experiences in Madrid. The guide was extremely knowledgeable; not only was he prepared to share the history of Madrid, its restaurants, its traditions, and its cuisine, but was obviously very capable of handling a rather large group in the crowded streets and restaurants of Madrid. This ability created an intimate, friendly and easy-going environment in which we were able to explore some of the more interesting parts of Madrid. It was obvious that the guide was ready and capable to tailor the tour to all types of tastes and preferences. In addition, we were able to easily enter into popular restaurants with lines going out the front door (lines of madrilenos, touristy tapas bars are not a part of this tour!) and find a cozy table where we were promptly and attentively served. I really feel like I got the best of both worlds with this tour-- I was able to see some of the most popular and famous tapas bars of Madrid without the confusion and hassle of waiting for a table and deciding what (and how) to order. I highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in spending an excellent evening experiencing some of the best food, drinks, and atmosphere Madrid has to offer! read more
