This place is a haven…read more I parked about 20 miles from the campground as this was my first bikepacking and I wanted to test how I could handle carrying the gear. I reserved online about a month before, and the price in late 2026 was under $30 per person per night. For a small additional fee, I bought a bundle of firewood that was waiting for me when I got there. This campground is quite roomy and most of the area is flat, except a small hill leading to the Youghiogheny River. There are plenty of picnic tables, and also some covered areas if you want to tent under shelter. There are fire pits and placed to cook on coals. The owner came by to check on things and introduce himself. There were 12 of us this night and there was so much room. The pictures don't do it justice. There is a clothes washing area (sink and washboard, no machines), bike washing area, TV (no one bothered; it's too nice in nature), electricity to charge devices, two real bathroom toilet/sink enclosures, two plant-filled spa-like showers, coffee maker, and free coffee. There's even a box of stickers in the kitchen, $1 per sticker, honor system. The river looked gorgeous in the night with lights reflecting off it. There is an active train line across the river, and you will hear it at night. I got used to is pretty quick; bring earplugs if that's an issue. There are absolutely no other drawbacks. This campground is within a mile of the West Newton GAP Trail parking area, and there is a bike shop right next to it. There are restaurants close by as well. I will be back!

I was welcomed by the owners, Mark & Amy, and immediately fell in love with the beautiful scenery I would be calling home for the next 8 months. While I lived at Creekside, I took daily walks with my dog, Dixie, either in the hills or down to the waterfall and diligently worked on restoring my camper. At the beginning of November, I had finished my renovations and was ready to head south for the winter. Mark was so kind and helpful getting me ready to hit the highway, I couldn't have done it without him. Creekside Campground was my first home as a traveling gypsy, I look forward to visiting again one day and would recommend a trip out to this quiet paradise tucked deep inside a West Virginia holler to anyone.

My earliest memories from the 1970s are filled with the smell of charcoal smoke at the picnic groves and the freezing shock of jumping into the lake on hot summer afternoons. As a kid, that beach felt massive, and a simple day trip with packed lunches (the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches melted to goodness from the sun) and blankets spread out on the grass was the best part of summer with my sisters and mom. As I grew into adulthood, the way I used the park changed, but I never stopped going. I didn't always go swimming but instead would explore the miles of hiking trails. The best part, though, was getting to experience it all over again through my daughter's eyes. Taking her there when she was little and watching her hit the water and run around the playground were special times indeed. Raccoon Creek isn't just a park to me; it's a constant in my life. Over five decades later, facilities might get updated here and there, but the familiar feeling of the place hasn't changed a bit. It's serene, nostalgic, and always feels like coming home.

The site commorates a battle that isn't famous, but they have a lot of interesting information about that battle and the war and time period in general. Aside from the museum, there are sprawling grounds that offer historical markers and placards that explain the history of the area. There are also some great trails to enjoy (and are also great for pictures!). They often have reenactment events but also host farmers markets, craft shows and other events on the site. Worth a visit, but especially so if you love history or nature.

Overall: A good, casual campground with clean cabins and decent amenities…read more We recently stayed at Benner's Meadow Run Campground for the Labor Day weekend and had a good overall experience. We stayed in Turkey Cabin 1, which was clean and adequate for two adults and two children. The full-size refrigerator was a nice feature and gave us plenty of room for food and drinks. One thing to be aware of is that the cabin photos on the website can be a little misleading. They may give the impression that Turkey Cabin 1 has a separate bedroom, but the main bed is actually in the living area. Our friends stayed in the Grouse House, which did have a small separate bedroom. So, if having a separate bedroom is important to you, make sure you confirm the cabin layout before booking. The stairs leading to the loft are another thing worth mentioning. They have very shallow steps and a fairly aggressive incline and, in my opinion, are not built to normal building-code standards. Thankfully, we had no issues with our two 11-year-olds using them, but I would definitely be more cautious with younger children or anyone who has difficulty with stairs. The campground store was convenient, but I think it could be stocked with more basic necessities such as milk, butter and similar items. It did have many of the typical camping essentials, including items like batteries and other supplies, so it was still useful to have on site. We rented a golf cart, which was definitely worthwhile. The electric cart had surprisingly good power and handled the campground's stone roadways very well. It was a convenient way to get around the grounds. The pool was clean and well maintained. As someone who owns a pool, I pay attention to water quality, and the pool appeared to be fresh and properly maintained from a chemical-balance standpoint. The biggest disappointment for us was the fishing. We were there over Labor Day weekend, and the fishing was very, very slow. The larger lower lake appeared to have more activity and life than some of the other areas, but we saw very few fish being caught aside from a handful of bluegill. If fishing is going to be a major part of your camping trip, I would keep expectations modest. Overall, I would recommend Benner's Meadow Run Campground for people looking for a casual camping experience with clean grounds, decent amenities, golf-cart access and some activities over holiday weekends. It isn't a luxury camping experience, but it provides a comfortable enough setting for a family camping trip, especially if you go in knowing what to expect from the cabins and fishing. Last concern about the cabin was that the hot water lasted maybe 2 minutes. Dreadful. Use the shower houses if you require more time like most do.

Our trip was almost ruined when my husband realized he left our camper power cord at home but the camp host, Chad, was incredibly and was able to make it work with an extra cord he had on site They had such fun Labor Day activities and the kids loved the playground, putt putt, and riding bikes.
