Just a little off the beaten path along Seafort Avenue, this is the secret shop D4 dandies go to for the best of Fashion Weeks past, as previously worn by Social and Personal types. Step into the back for a look at filmier gowns and frocks, but steel thyself for the prices -there's no bargain basement prices (but you will get that Chanel blouse at half it's original sale price). My first introduction to Second Avenue was on a cold spring day a few years back; as we rounded a corner on a closed up shop I wondered if we'd gone too far. A moment later the shop front appeared, blocked in by rows of Land Rovers parked right in front of the shop window. Inside there was quiet as women fanned through beautiful silks and suits hung along the wall racks. At the centre table I fell in love with a black croc clutch that I would end up going back twice to mull over bringing home. The price tag ended the would-be romance.

Second Avenue is where all the D4 ladies go second hand shopping. But this boutique is a far cry…read morefrom Oxfam or SVP. It is definitely not a mothball charity shop. On offer here you can find Gucci suits, Prada handbags, Alexander McQueen jackets and John Rocha scarves, all at a fraction of the original price (though unfortunately still out of my budget!). The clothes range from vintage to last season, and most pieces would be suited for the more mature lady.

Admittedly, it takes a bit of rummaging to find something of real interest in Leia, but the selection of party dresses is alright. These are the kind of dresses you might wear for a fun night out with the girls, or possibly to a fancy-dress party; frivolous, colorful bits of synthetic materials that frequently have sequins and ruffles attached. Nothing high fashion on the least. But cheap as hell! Leia Clothing also sells really high, plasticky fake-leather heels. We're talking seriously, hooker-shoe high. I wouldn't recommend leaving the house wearing both a dress and a pair of shoes from Leia Clothing, because you will probably look pretty ridiculous.

I must disagree with most of what Mary C. wrote on her review, while Leia Clothing is cheap and…read morecheerful and you do need to dig around a bit to find what your looking for, the clothes are pretty good standard in comparison to certain high street chains I could name and shame. I discovered this gem in 2005 and have found quite a few bargains that I still have. The garments fit well, wash well and are pretty funky! The shoes are good as well, I had a work BBQ to go to and had nothing to wear, so I popped along to Leia and got a dress and a pair of "plasticky fake hooker heels" (the exact same pair in River Island for a third of the price) and got complimented all night about my ensemble! The staff are so helpful, and not afraid to tell you what suits you and what would go nicely with that top/skirt/dress, as with the BBQ, I tried on a really unflattering dress, to which the senior sales girl (Stacy, Shes the best!!) told me that it made me look bigger then I am, (scarlet!!) and helped me choose something that was more me, and I felt great all night!! I highly recommend it if your in a jam, need something to wear quick and are looking for girly, fun outfits that you can wear again and again...till it goes out of fashion, the one downfall of the clothes is that they're very in the moment. All in all a very good place to shop!!

I'm seriously shocked this place hasn't been reviewed already! I went here this weekend with a…read morefriend who has started the epic task of finding her wedding dress. Dirty Fabulous has been mentioned a few times as a place to find good vintage clothing, particularly dresses. It's upstarts in one of the georgian buildings on Baggot street, so it's a bit off the beaten track, and I suspect you have to have an appointment - well for wedding dresses you certainly do. We were taken into a room with beautiful things that girls love, but what surprised me was the range of dresses was quite small. The nature of vintage being what it is means that you do have to be lucky to be in the room at the same time as the dress you want. However I found the staff great, they do realise the nature of the search and offer to keep your details and to let you know if anything that you would like does come in. And the dresses are beautiful. You can see these really beautiful different styles from various decades - 50s, 20s, 60s etc. There's also beautiful vintage jewelry and accessories. So if you're a vintage style lover this is definitely a place for you. I do have to say that the staff here really stood out. We had a few appointments that same day and no-one gave us advice anything like the lady in Dirty Fabulous. I think my friend was very tired of mediocre dresses at this point, and she picked her up by telling her not to mind any nonsense people tell her in shops about deadlines. She gave her great advice about trying things on even if they were in the wrong colour or shape to get a better idea of what works and what doesn't. She gave us cards of other shops which might stock dresses that she might also like. She organised us bridesmaids, who were flailing about uselessly, by designating a note-taker and talking about mailing lists. And all of it was done in a gentle, understanding way which made us all warm to her, and agree we would certainly recommend the place. She said to us as we were leaving "always remember to eat between every appointment and have a glass of wine with lunch".... after a footsore day with a disappointed bride-to-be the importance of this advice really stands out in my mind!

I had clearly stated when I booked that I was looking for wedding accessories and jewellery, but as soon as she established I already had my dress she seemed annoyed I was there. When showing me selections of accessories she pushed hard to sell regardless of whether I seemed interested or comfortable which was dissimilar to most of the bridal appointments I had experienced. I'd be wary of going back again.

Sure, you're probably thinking that I'm the type of urban sophisto who writes reviews on Yelp, and…read moreyou're probably also thinking about how cool I am and possibly wondering was I always this cool, or did it take me lots of practice? Alas, no, I was not always this cool. If you could only have seen me circa 2000/2001, when I used to go around in my Slipknot hoodie, no doubt listening to a Korn CD on my new-fangled discman. O, halcyon days. My relationship with thrash metal did not last terribly long (I just couldn't relate to all of the angst, for then as I now I was possessed of a sunny dispostion), but for the duration of that particular affectation, you could be sure to find me most Saturdays in Asha in Stephen's Green Shopping Centre. Asha is the only shop in Dublin dedicated exclusively to moper nonsense (and I'm not forgetting about St George's St arcade; that is for when the goths graduate to emo-dom). Asha is full of t-shirts, posters, stickers, badges, bracelets and teenagers going through their 'awkward' phase, essentially everything that you need to be cock-of-the-walk when you're hanging around outside the Central Bank, giving out about how awful your parents are because they won't let you get a Jim Morrison tattoo. Going into Asha was always an insructive experience, because apart from selling goth accessories, they also sell cannabis paraphernalia. And pot, beloved not only of mopers, is also enjoyed by scobes, so Asha is the only place in Dublin where these two disparate cultures are likely to interact on a regular basis. Go to Asha one day, sidle up to one of the stripy-jumper-sovereign ring-kids and tell him "I just heard that hippy over there slagging Bob Marley". Oh, what fun.
