One of just a few left. We really like going to the drive in. If you're new to the drive in experience, here are a few pro tips. 1st- it's not like being at a regular theatre. You need some accoutrements. 2. Consider bringing lawn chairs and a FM radio. Many times the outside speakers do not work and I haven't figured how to play FM stations through my phone. 3. Bring your bug spray. I spray it on myself and the ground beneath me to keep away mosquitoes and ants. 4. We always bring dinner and snacks. We usually pick up a pizza, Panda Express, or some other fast food. I always bring an ice chest with water and sodas. We still hit the concession stand to help them stay in business. 5. Is the easiest, sit in your car with the radio dialed into the appropriate station. Enjoy the A/C car and enjoy the movie. 6. Beware, drive in theatre bathrooms are usually pretty bad. At least the Madera drive in has soap and paper towels. read more

Took my grandsons for an experience they may not have again, not many drive-ins out there. Nice venue movie showed well. Great time for the family. Backed the Avalanche up they laid in the bed. Had some pizza and snacks for them. Now here are some things you SHOULD KNOW: bring chairs yes but also bring blankets if you plan on being outside the vehicle, if you have a Bluetooth speaker bring it. Do not be deceived by the speakers hanging if you are outside of your vehicle they are not sufficient. This is a very cool place and even the popcorn is cool. Take the kids and have some fun. This place is a hidden gem in the San Joaquin Valley!!! 2 screens, each offering a double feature each night for $12/adult. Every time I've been, it's been relatively empty, with more than enough space to bring chairs, blankets, dinner etc. The speakers are loud enough that you can sit outside the car and not use your car radio to hear the dialog. Movies start at 8:45 pm. There are bathrooms and a limited concession stand. One of the best ways to enjoy the warm summer nights, the drive in is perfect for families and friends of any age. And it's a great nostalgic activity for the older generation. read more

There isn't many drive-in theaters around anymore. I was excited to find one. There are two screens and each screen shows a double feature. The cost is reasonable, but each lot isn't very large so it gets crowded. I'd suggest to get there an hour before to get prime parking. The lots are filled with families. The concession stand is reasonable priced. I did buy the popcorn it was freshly popped, but the consistency was oily. Luckily you can bring in your own food. We will bring our own next visit. I was disappointed in the number of women stalls, and that they ran out of soap in the bathroom.....very early in the evening. It was a fun experience and definitely a family event. read more

Really great experience. Came here with my date. They had 2 movies going at the same drive in. We stayed to see both. The movies that played were Hitmans Wife's Bodyguard and A Quiet Place Part 2. Hitman's wife was pretty good. Funny with a hilarious ending! Plus a lot of action! Not a fan of A Quiet Place Part 2. It was creepy! Definitely a few moments that had me jump in the creepiness of it all! = / It was simple to just park, turn off vehicle lights, change the radio station to the channel the drive in gave and watch. Can't complain when this is one of the last, of a bygone era. No one , especially if you grew up in the 70s&80s can say a Drive-In theater doesn't bring back great memories. I'm so glad this place hasn't changed much. It's hard to believe there are so many people who haven't done this. Even with the race track noise. It's worth it. ( tip) for an even better experience. One of the last Drive-Ins in California you can go to... definitely worth coming to!! The prices have gone up, $11 for adults, $5 for kids under 11. Only two screens, but if you can stay up late they feature two movies. They have a concession stand and it's pricey, but that's the beauty of the drive-in!! You can take your own food, drinks and snacks!! They have restrooms available and for the most part the area is kept clean and organized. Unfortunately the night we went they were having the midget car races at the fair so that was loud and interfering with our movie. But it's not too often, so I hope when you go, you have a good experience. Bring your own speaker and chairs and come out and enjoy this place!! read more

So we came here on Memorial Day. Online it says gates open at 7:30, I had seen on their Facebook that lines were long so we actually got there about 6:40. We were about the 10th car in line. They opened up earlier, a little after 7. They have two screens and play 2 movies on each screen. Which starts at 8:45. Screen 1 seems to have more parking then screen 2. There are social distancing guidelines now. You have to show them your mask when you purchase the tickets. $10 per adult. I don't know what happens if you don't have one. But whenever you leave your car you're suppose to have a mask on. Everyone seemed to be adhering to the rule, all the employees included. We had time to kill so we hit the snack bar. The employees seemed happy and helpful. There was an older man handing out the food and seemed really nice. You order your food and they'll call you down the little isle to get your food (social distancing)! Monday night dollar corn dogs was a big hit in my car! You are suppose to park 1 car in between the speakers and park 10 feet away from other cars. There were a couple cars that were closer than 10 feet. One happened to park right next to mine! The employees didn't ask these cars to move , which I get - they probably don't want to start fights over social distancing. The people stayed in their car the whole time so it wasn't that bad. We'll definitely be back tho. It's a good social distancing activity. read more

If you're going for the second half of a double feature, don't count on food being available. Second movie for double feature starts at 11:30, and snack bar closes at 10:45. We didn't want to watch the first movie showing so we came for the second, and drove an hour out here to enjoy it. Won't let us leave to eat and come back (well before our movie was due to start) Snack bar times need to be posted online. I also just watched a family with children experience the same thing. Had a great time here last night ! Watched a Friday night showing of Hocus Pocus-- my first time at the Madera Drive-In and my first time at a drive-in in like 25 yrs (old age lol) . This was a pretty safe covid era activity. When you buy your tickets, you and the staff are wearing masks and you could stay in your car the whole time if you like. I did leave my car to use the bathroom, and it was clean, although the building is quite old. Plenty of soap and hand sanitizer were available in the women's bathroom. I brought my own snacks and water so I didn't check out the snack bar but they do give you a paper menu when you pay the entrance fee. You can listen through your car radio but don't have to as their speaker system was adequate to hear the movie. All in all a great night ! I'd definitely go back. read more

I haven't been to a drive-in since I was a child, so I was eager for this experience! The prices for a drive-in have changed to reflect today's prices, so a car with two adults and one senior came out to a little over twenty dollars. The employees tell you which radio station to tune into before you find a parking. This particular drive-in was very small compared to the other ones I used to visit. They have a snack station, and they are currently practicing social distancing. The food is priced fairly, in my opinion. For two large candies, a large soda, popcorn, and nachos, it was a little under twenty in total. Unheard of back at normal cinemas, where I would have had to pay at least double! The three star rating comes down to some issues that made it difficult to really watch a film. If you want to sit outside, the outside speakers are very low. If you are watching from inside your car, you need to keep turning the radio back on if your car shuts off after a while. There were a lot of children complaining at this horror film double feature I went to, but that's beyond the control of the drive-in itself. Also, the ground had a lot of nails, which made me worry about popping a tire. A nostalgic night, with only a few hiccups!! read more

Madera Drive-In one of seventeen in California. Considering this is the oldest drive-in in California we had the best time. The weather was perfect the crowd was courteous. It was nice family environment to watch a movie. They open the gates at 0735 and the movie began at 9pm. It's a double feature. The second movie begins at 11pm. It's smart to get there early. The later you get there after 8 it's more difficult to find a parking spot. The Madera Speed Way had a race going on also it made it difficult to hear any thing for maybe 15 minutes it was fine after that. We brought our own food a lot of people went to pick up popcorn from the concession stand. We will definitely do this again. Making memories. read more

This was my very 1st time to experience watching a movie at a Drive-In, and it was pretty chill. It was actually pretty cool watching Avengers on the big screen from the comfort of your own car, as well as being able to adjust the volume through your own car speakers. Parking was fairly easy on a Friday night. We were lucky enough to park in the front row as there were only about 5 other cars there. We LOVE the Madera drive in movies!! We love that it's fun throwback movies. It feels really safe inside the gates. The area you park your car is very clean. Super easy to see the screen with the slanted parking spots. The facility inside is sort of like its frozen in time, it feels like the good ol days when you go inside the concession stand. GREAT popcorn & super friendly staff! Movie theater hack: I don't leave my car on during the movie, and although you can hear the movie through the little speakers they have next to the cars.... we bring a portable radio with batteries so we can hear the sound extra loud :-) so so so happy this is open during the pandemic, so fun for families and kids!! :-) read more

I've come to the drive in a few times. Unfortunately this time i didn't enjoy my time as much as before. The speakers hardly work you can barley hear anything. We went on a Saturday night and the whole time herd the speedway races going on. Not how I wanted to spend my Saturday night. The speedway Car's are super loud and we could barley hear the movie. Just an FYI it's cash only. Arrive early and check to see what days the races are on. You don't want to waste $ on a movie you can't hear. read more

My husband and I drove an hour to get here with a 4 month old baby, then waited in a long, frustrating line of cars for an hour to get in, when we got there we were greeted and directed by the most competent employees running the gate. It made the entire experience worth it and immediately put us in a good mood. The variety and prices at the concession stand were fair as well. A classic movie experience executed reasonably well. Drawbacks include the occasional train that goes by, the abysmal lack of hygiene in the restrooms, and the low volume on the speakers. But other than these peccadilloes, this place is loads of retro fun. The owners are lax on making you stay inside your car and so quite soon after arrival, the theater grounds resembles a tailgate party more than a screening. Cool summer nights under the stars, popcorn in your hand, your kids being lulled to sleep by a slight breeze, and relaxing outside on another perfect Fresno night. This is a great place for a family outing, we pulled out our folding chairs and blankets - it was nice a cool out. The snack bar is decent and cheaper than a typical theater ($4 for a large popcorn with refills). Three kids, myself, a large popcorn and large soda was $21 all together - you can't beat that (and that is for two movies!). My biggest suggestion is to get there somewhat early because some of the speakers do not work so well. We parked and couldn't get our speakers to work and had to run around to find working speakers. Seems like theres a lot of locals there, they were kind of chuckling at us. All in all a great experience and I believe it's a family owned business so it's nice to support something local! read more

Never been to a drive-in theatre, so my recent experience here was pretty cool. For one, it's much cheaper than a regular theatre obviously (I think it was $8/ticket?) so that's definitely a plus. You also don't have to deal with the long lines, or the loud, talkative teenagers that you may experience in most movies. The best part though is that since you're in your own car, you can bring your own food and wear whatever the hell you want. As long as you have a decent set of speakers, and a spacious car with comfortable seats, this is the place to go watch a movie if you're in the area! read more

Had a great time, watching a couple of great movies and a great price $7.00 a person and the snack bar prices were not bad. got 2 large drinks and a large bag of popcorn for 13.00 with 1 free refill on each.
