Just watched One Republic at the Madera Fair and all I can say is that they kick ass! We drove 2 1/2 hours to get there and under the desert like weather I wasn't so sure if the visit was worth it. I was wrong! Gotta see when their next concert is! Madera Fair was awesome because One Republic was playing! Just a few other highlights: - parking was free (parked at Lowes) - food was decent. Enjoyed my corn lathered with extra butter and powdered with chili. I didn't dare to eat the fried twinkies, fried Oreos, eggrolls on a stick or the chocolate covered bacon! Others though seem to enjoy it. - the magic acts and hypnosis show were bland - the pig race was interesting and fun to watch. Never seen one before. - didn't ride any rides, but wish I got on the ferris wheel. There were rides for little kids as well as for the older ones. Lots of dizzy spinning rides! - entrance to the fair was $7 or $8. - out concert tickets were $20 to be upclose. If we paid for just the fair entrance, we would still be able to enjoy the concert from a distance.

The St. George Greek Orthodox Church always hosts this annual food festival and I trust the proceeds from the event go to help the church and the local Greek community. Most of the dishes range in price between $3 for many desserts, to $4 to $12 for most savory items individually. I thought it was ridiculous to charge $4 for the rice pilaf, which was actually only a dollar less than the roast chicken, and they gave me so little too. The chicken/pork souvlaki was very tasty but one tiny skewer was hardly worth the $7. I also believe I was grossly overcharged unless the prices went up and the prices listed on the pamphlet were outdated. This is very unlikely, however, since I came on the first night of the festival. Many of the volunteers for the event, many of them were very young, were terribly unhelpful, and not prepared at all to answer even the most basic questions (e.g., the type of meat and ingredients in the dish they were serving, where you could purchase drinks, where the restroom was, etc.). BEST BETS: lamb shank, spanakopita, moussaka, roast chicken, Greek salad, walnut baklava, saragli - pistachio, and baklava sundae.

The star of the a la carte platter (see picture) was the dolmas. But the uncooked rice pilaf chunks and gamey lamb shank were atrocious. The mocha frappe is sadly misleading with no blending of the drink. Sad tasting made worse with Hershey (low quality) chocolate used in a latte that did not use quality beans for the espresso. Of the aforementioned complaints, they sold hummus, but somehow not a La carte. And it was in a 2oz. Container, along with 3 pieces of cheese, pita, cucumber sauce, and olives do 12 freaking dollars. So we left a Greek festival empty-handed of the most desired item, hummus. I am quite disappointed what is supposed to be a "jolly" affair. For context, we visited between 2-4pm on Saturday.

It certainly is beginning to look a lot like christmas and its not even Thanksgiving yet, especially at the old town clovis with its exclusive once a year event known as "One Enchanted Evening" thats completely FREE of charge , this year it was on Nov 19th from 5pm to 8pm. This event feels like walking through the main street of Disneyland without leaking $150 of course Its almost like a best kept secret, since many people in the city of Fresno and Clovis seems unaware that it is an annual tradition that has been running for 12 years, even I was almost unaware of it, but thankfully my friend Dave reminded me. The old town Clovis transforms into a christmas galore with glitzy light luminously lighting its historic streets, christmas song's like mariah carey's 'all I want for christmas playing in the background, smell of hot chocolates in the air, lit horse drawn carriages making its headway down the street, and colorful and shiny christmas decor prominent everywhere, it certainly feels christmasy, warm and fuzzy. There is of course opportunity to visit the adorable antique stores and get the christmas shopping started. And not to forget is the classic collection of old cars from the early 1800 century to the late 1920's all parked on the street and ready for an Instagram moment. One Enchanted Evening is held exclusively by the participating businesses in Old Town Clovis who open their doors for hospitality and good cheer by offering complimentary drinks and mini snacks while we shopped through their amazing antiquities, engulf in their beautifully decorated display window, and walk through the beautifully lit streets of old town clovis lined with lights and christmas decorations . Its also the opportune time to enjoy a complimentary horse-drawn carriage ride through the beautifully decorated streets of Old Town Clovis and a time for me to drag my younger siblings here too, since I heard Santa would be here collecting data on who's naughty and nice. There was even carolers all dressed up in victorian styles clothing singing some christmas tunes. Parking was not much an issue for me, because there were plenty of Free street parking available. I would however advise future patrons to come as early as 5.30 am to enjoy the caroling, which I missed. The time spent here can be varied, but it took me about 30-45 minutes to slowly stroll, visit shops and sip some free hot chocolate and not to forget to bring the best cameras at home, because the sights and window set up is so beautiful and must be captured in photos before its all gone. Its an experience everyone should experience at least once a year !

Of course anything for the kids because for them price isn't a concern. They enjoyed every moment of it just being out and about with the scene. I helped myself to some local whipped honey and bee pollen. The corn dog and curly fries brick was about $25 and the grilled corn was $7. The sea lion show attracted many people and a lady going around with bubbles had the kids jumping with joy, my toddler enjoyed both. If you look past the food, there's still much to enjoy. I just got food items that my kids would enjoy. I'll be going to the RnB Concert this week so we will see how that goes, I kind of scoped if there was any new vendors. I think I'll just be going for the usual smoked turkey leg and sticky cinnamon roll:)

I was just as confused as you when I heard the Fresno fair was happening in May! But let's just jump right into this. First of all, I am not a huge fan of the Fresno fair that happens in the Fall. It's extremely crowded, so hot and overpriced. The Spring fair is a lot smaller than the BIG Fresno fair but it is held in the same spot. I feel that if given more exposure , this event will grow larger. This is the FIRST year. They have the usual foods like deep fried Oreos, twinkies, giant corn dogs, Bubba's BBQ and etc. don't expect a huge amount of stands for food though! For this year at least because there were maybe just 9 food stands ? But that's okay, because there were no lines ! Lol And you got your food quickly. There are a lot of other vendors selling trinkets, snacks and other seen on tv items. Camel rides for $10. A free bird show, the bird sang happy birthday! Lol There are an abundance of games and some rides. Which I did not pay too much attention to, I only came for the food and just to check it out. Slightly disappointed that there were no lobster fries or gelato. Maybe next year ! Parking : $5 Fresno fair parking Entrance : $10
