My 14-year-old nephew declared the chocolate-frosted donuts the best he's ever had, and he's really kind of a connoisseur, truth be told. But did you know: the strawberry cake here is OUT of this WORLD! No garish pink food dye here, folks, no fakey-fake strawberry flavoring! No, it's just the right hint of natural strawberry to kiss your lips and long for summer. And get the whipped-cream frosting! It's surprisingly stable (day three, and it's just as creamy-but-firm as day one!) And the customer service? Owner Erika must have been an Olympic gymnast, because she bent over backwards for me. I needed a cake on Tuesday for a dinner party, but they are closed Tuesday. But she said she planned to come in that day and would prepare it for me to pick up at the hardware store next door. She called me when it was ready, and my dinner party ended with a dream-in-your-mouth dessert. The thrill is gone! Madelaine's is no longer my go to for donuts. Never again will I wait in line. No longer will I make the trek every weekend. No longer will I recommend this bakery or their donuts. My last experience (this past weekend) was lousy. Six donuts, $15, thrown in a bag and one hot mess upon delivery to my friend. I questioned the clerk about throwing the chocolate covered donuts in the bag as she was and she said, "don't worry about it, they're fine." They were not. Milton is typically a straight-shot-through-town kinda experience for me, which, in general, is too bad. Now however, like that one neon sign in the middle of the desert flashing "cold beer here", Milton has a place that brings me in. Madeline's has quite the assortment of cookies, cupcakes, and brownie-like treats. They are definitely oriented towards the cake-side of baked goods, rather than the buttery, pastry-side of things, thus a good choice for that mid-afternoon sugar high to ward off the sleepies. They have drip coffee, and I don't know where to go in Milton for specialty coffee outside of Dunkin' Donuts. As a result, I am kinda only half-sated when I leave Madeline's, because their wonderful dessert creations would go best with a cappuccino. They also have a wide selection of novelty political-oriented cookies. Want Bernie or Donald's face in cookie form? Madeline's has it. One often overlooked aspect of the bakery, is that Madeline's has the hands-down best pastry bags to envelope your baked goods. Very nice mid-century look to them using high quality waxed paper. I often wonder how she can afford them. There is a ton of parking too, but no place to sit and eat your fill of those little sugar babies, thus it's a take-out kinda place. read more

Come in early morning when everything is fresh and warm, it's the only time I'll go, if I'm just planning on getting cinnamon rolls. I know they throw out the day old cinnamon rolls, I'm not sure if they throw out other day old products tho! Despite the typical sociopolitical indicators, I think the true mark of civilization is the presence of a great bakery. Luckily for residents of Milton, Madeleine is just that. I wish I could say I've tried everything so I could give a complete assessment of what makes this bakery great, but all I've had is their bread, cookies, cupcakes, and pie. I am pleased to report that they are all delicious. We have purchased assorted cookies to meet the dietary and taste needs of the many, and have found them all delectable. I want to give Madeline's Bakery a stronger review by I just can't. Madeline's isn't a bakery. Madeline's is a cookie and doughnut store disguising as a bakery. I have gone in here several times. I've looked around and bought something because it looked delicous. But, when that something hit my mouth, I was instantly disappointed each time. I find that most of the things taste the same- sugar overload. While this may work for some, I like my baked goods to have flavor and not just a butter and sugar taste. Oh how much I love this place. I actually have to stay away because I love it so much. I go here for delicious adult birthday cakes (meaning not Hello Kitty or Batman) because I hate to see just the frosting get eaten on such a delicous through and through cake! And for the quality of cake you get the price is great. My last time in I got a 3 layer chocolate cake with chocolate frosting that appeared small and I was not sure if it would be adequate for the 7 people I was feeding. This was the only cake they had as late in the day as I got there, and it was one that they had made just then in order to have some in the case for the next day. That's the thing, they are often sold out in the afternoon because IT'S SO GOOD! Anyway, the woman helping me was so great, she offered me this cake, and said they would frost it and write on it for me (which took moments) and when I brought it home it turned out that it was more than enough. It is not airy fairy cake. The frosting is the same kind they use in their delicious donuts. The cake cost I believe $16. That brings me to the donuts. My favorite are the frosting filled ones. Again, I have to keep away from this place or I would weigh 300 lb!! But a wonderful treat on weekend mornings! I do wish they had more homemade bread items. I have bought their bread before but it reminds me of the kind you buy frozen and throw in the oven so the house smells good. I could be wrong, but it doesn't have that artisan quality to it. Then again, I don't think bread is really their thing right now. We have also tried the cupcakes, which are the one thing that seems a little overpriced to me, the cookies are yummy and I always buy my husband a mouse truffle on his birthday as a cake topper. We ordered two cakes for my friends baby shower this weekend. We selected a basic chocolate and a carrot cake. These were at the request of the mom to be!
