This is a fun and unique park for the kiddos! Lots of vibrant colors and playground equipment I haven't seen anywhere else. Lots of room to roam. Four infant swings instead of just two (or none) like most parks. It's not five stars because of the sand and only street parking. I hate parks with sand or wood chips. That crap gets everywhere. And no restrooms. Surprising for such a large park. The dog park is pretty far from the playground. I didn't look at it although I did hear one dog fight with a lot of yelling. Sounded fairly serious. This is a good park for the little ones. Just piddle before you go. And bring a DustBuster for your car afterwards.

If you want your dog to get attacked then by all means go to this park

Hands down the worst dog park in san diego and some of the worst dog owners in san diego. Our little dog is super beta and just rolls over on his back for other dogs to sniff him when he gets in and what happens?? We turn our back to hang up the leash and within seconds a pitbull pins our dog down and takes a bite out of his face. So what happens as our dog is bleeding and screaming?? The other owners tell us it's fine and that the other dog was just playing. The owner of the pitbull doesn't apologize and doesn't even come to help pull his dog off of ours. Then tells us that this has never happened before. Well you know what? One time is one time too many. I freaking hate the dog owners here. They acted like we were the ones over reacting as our dog was bleeding from his snout. If you want your small or medium sized dog to get attacked and to bleed with a-hole dog owners who think it's fine that your dog gets attacked then this is the place for you because you are probably an a-hole too. I will gladly drive to rancho penisquitos or poway dog park to avoid this horrible place.

5 stars because it's been two good experiences in a row. it is just dirt so be prepared for that (not too hard to get off since it's not wet) but the dog owners are so nice! my puppy has enjoyed running around this large, fenced-in area!

This is a pretty decent size park it has two sections one for kids and one for dogs. The dog area is gated and the entrances are double doors so no worries on your dog running out when it opens. The dog area is pretty big enough for zoomies and scavenging. Its mostly dirt in that area so expect a dusty dog. The rest of the park is nice and covered with grass with tables and some grills.

Some of the gsds here are aggressive. I feel bad now, since my gsd got nipped awhile ago.

There is plenty of parking - we've come at all times of the day and have never had an issue. You climb up a small hill and at the top you reach a large open grassy field. The trees are surrounding the border so you get a little bit of shade on the edges depending on the time of day. Also around the borders there are concrete benches to sit at, but we usually bring our own chairs. Our dog loves the open space here! So much room to run after her frisbee or chase other dogs. She definitely had good interactions with the dogs here, most seem very well socialized and the owners we've met have been friendly. Some things to keep in mind: - There are no poop bags, so you should bring your own. For a place that doesn't have them available, most of the owners here appear very responsible and have their own to clean up after their own pet. I've seen other parks with bags on site and the owners still don't pick up after their dog. - there are no water stations/fountains. However there are bowls around so you can bring water to fill them. - there are no fences. So once you climb up the hill, you're in an open park that has a natural barrier of shrubbery but I think there could be potential for dogs to wander away or out of it. We feel comfortable with our pup because her recall is pretty good. - lastly, no bathrooms!

SPACIOUS AND GRASSY (5 stats)…read more It's so hard to find a good dog park in San Diego that has ample space, separation of big and small dog park, and grassy. It's in the heart of Poway at their civic center that has everything for the community. Lots of community and family public usages for their community-residence and very clean. We had a Pomeranian meetup here and imagine a ton of tiny Poms roaming safely and freely in a very spacious dog for smaller dogs. Occasionally some people brought their small to medium dog that had big dog energy in the area but all owners were respectful and watched their dog's actions. I didn't see a singly poop in the park and it was one of the cleanest dog parks I've been to. Too bad it's a far drive or we would be regulars. This was the first time I seen my new Pomeranian open up and play. She didn't want to leave and kept playing and playing after over an hour being there. I do wish there were some signs. The civic center area is big and we had walked around just to find the dog park section is in the back behind the baseball fields. Eve though it was a little distance walk, we felt very safe during the day. I'd be cautious towards the early morning or evenings as this is east/inland and I can foresee coyotes being near

The best part of this park is that the people who come are so friendly and you get to play with their awesome dogs as well as your own. So many cute doggies!! I have found that the shared interest of dog ownership makes for endless hours of great conversation. On May 30, 2018, I adopted a rescue Doxle (aka Deagle) puppy. His name was Rocco and he had the body of a Daschund and the head of a beagle, big floppy ears and big feet. He had white feet and a white tipped tail. He was medium-sized, about 26 lbs. I started bringing Rocco in October 2018 as soon as he recovered from being neutered. He was super friendly with every dog he met and just wanted to play with everyone. I loved watching him play with other dogs here. We would arrange playdates with other dogs, including his best friend, Jack, a Cardigan Corgi. They would run around the small dog section for 90 minutes. This place was a godsend. As the saying goes, "a tired dog is a well-behaved dog", and my Rocco became much better behaved at home once I started visiting this park. On Nov 26, something tragic and fatal happened to Rocco. While i was out playing a tennis tournament match in La Jolla, my 80 year-old father-in-law somehow let Rocco escape from our backyard and Rocco died when he was hit by a car. 13 days later, an abandoned dog that turned out to be a Belgian Malinois, found me at Canyonside Park while I was teaching tennis. The next day, after going to Black Mountain Veterinary Hospital to check for a microchip, I found myself in the large dog section for the first time. I asked around if anyone recognized this dog. So many people were so helpful and concerned. Within an hour, two people offered to adopt the dog. One was a dog trainer who used to train this breed for the Police dept. My wife came and took over. She said that three people offered adopt her in the next two hours. In the last 6 days, I have visited this park every day. I have met so many great people and dogs. The reason I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 is that having visited the Poway dog park, it is easy to compare and realize that this place lacks the following amenities: 1. Lights 2. Grass - the large dog side is just dirt with no grass whatsoever 3. Picnic tables 4. Trees (for shade) 5. More seating - benches there is only one bench on the small dog side and two on the big dog side. This place is popular and gets crowded at times. I don't mind it being crowded, because having more dogs means more opportunity for my dog to play. But, it also means less chance of being able to sit down. a few picnic tables would be great.
