If you're from out of town BEWARE. This place will overcharge you and take advantage of you simply because you're from out of town. While Martin is a great artist and I have no complaints about my tattoo itself, I will say, that in my opinion, he is a thief. I was charged $572 for a 3 hour tattoo. A three hour tattoo at $150 an hour comes to a total cost of $450 + tax. While I believe in paying for quality, I did feel like he 'milked the clock' to increase his profit. My tattoo is simple and did not require three hours, especially from a talented and experienced artist. The reason I feel like I was stolen from is because I paid $110 as a deposit to hold my spot. I received an invoice that states it is a DEPOSIT. Since it's a deposit I was under the impression that the $110 would come off the total of the tattoo. That's the way it works in most businesses and how the deposits were applied in previous tattoos I've had done. When Martin finished my tattoo I was told by Tyler, who handled the check-out process, that the $110 would in fact come off the total. Since it was a three hour tattoo the total came to $450+ tax. My balance was to be $340 + tax. Instead my card was charged $462. With the $110 deposit I ended up paying $572 total! I was not given a receipt and I had the tattoo done on the day I was heading back home from my vacation. It was not until I got back home that I realized that I had been overcharged. I called the tattoo studio to explain the error. I spoke to an artist that told me the deposit should have come off the total. I was told to email Martin and everything would be fine and the charge would be taken off. By then I had been told a few times that I had paid a deposit that was to come off of the balance and had hope that this 'error' would be corrected. I was wrong. After several emails back and forth I was told that they did not overcharge me. That, in their opinion, they had given me a deal because Martin normally charges $200 an hour. Their Facebook page clearly states $150 an hour and I was told that he charges $150. I was never told I was receiving a 'deal' in any of the emails that were exchanged prior to me entering their studio to have my tattoo done, nor during or after the work. Also, as I stated above, my invoice for the $110 clearly states it's a deposit. The dictionary defines a deposit as 'a sum payable as a first installment on the purchase of something or as a pledge for a contract, the balance being payable later'. I was also told in those email exchanges discussing the overcharge, that Martin doesn't work at the studio and just came in to do my tattoo. That is a clear lie as he is put forth as the owner of the studio. One room, which is clearly his work area, has his face on the walls. During the time he was doing my tattoo he went on a "smoke break" and came back reeking of weed. Then proceeded to say things to hint at the fact that he was high. In my opinion, that is completely unprofessional behavior from a business owner. I did check reviews before I decided on this studio but I should've done more digging or research into this business and their practices. The rude, condescending, sarcastic replies regarding bad or less than stellar reviews were clearly present online, on multiple platforms. When I mentioned that in an email some of those replies or the whole review was then removed. But there are many still out there. So, behaving unprofessionally is common practice for this business. I fully expect some of the same behavior in response to this review. I just want out-of-towners to beware. There are many talented tattoo artists out there, who are also trust worthy and professional. Unfortunately, that is not the case with Martin and his studio. read more

Walked in for a few piercings for my wife and I, The whole shop smelled like marijuana. The receptionist was extremely rude with an unwelcoming demeanor. I went in the room for our piercing and noticed several roaches crawling on chair we was to set in. Both my wifes piercings were crooked. Contacted the owner and was told to remove the jewelry, return and they would re-pierce free of charge. Upon arriving for the second time The owner Martin began to get very aggressive towards me when i had mention the re-piercing. He proceeded in blurting vulgar language in front of my wife and our two young children. Anyone one who would act so incredibly inappropriate and use drugs while at work is unprofessional and far from Christian standard. I highly recommed you look elsewhere, there are many shops in the area. (Just to be clear) The two piercings in question were my wifes. My dermals were never the issue. Although i did ask to paid for a new one because one, my tissue rejected. This happens. He refused which was fine. The issue was both of my wifes piercings were crooked. One more so than the other. The only refund i asked for was for her two piercings, not mine. When Martin was told this, he just made excuses, claiming, "this was a result of her anxiety" Which is false. He did in fact offer to give her the money she had paid for the crooked piercings. But i had explained, at this time she doesn't want her money back, just straight piercings. He told us ok, to come back at our earliest convenience and he would re-pierce to her satisfaction. Never did he ask for us to call ahead or schedule an appointment in order to do so and I have the text messages to prove it. We came back a few weeks later, the shop was empty and the place smell like marijuana. My wife will corroborate this as well as roaches being present in the piercing room. As to your business being busy the second time we came in, that is a lie. No one was in the shop but us that day. Martin cussed me out aggressively, in front of my son and daughter, in an effort to intimidate me. My wife was in the bathroom at the time and heard every word. Went to Mad Tatter Studios on 815 E Parkway Gatlinburg, TN 37738. Went in on Tuesday to talk to the artist and set an appointment. Was told $100.00 per hour. Put down a $55.00 deposit and made the appointment for Thursday. Upon arrival, was charged another $110.00 BEFORE work even began. Artist only spent 45 minutes on the tattoo and when asked why I was charged so much, tried to say that he went with a flat rate instead and that the area where I got the tattoo (bicep) was more???? Do not recommend this shop. I will say the artist did good work but definitely wasn't worth the price I was charged. read more

Place reeks of weed which they claim to have no knowledge as of why. Tattoo quality is pretty sub par, employees are rude and don't really care about the customers. Wouldn't recommend to anyone looking to get a quality tattoo or piercing. read more

Had an absolutely amazing experience at Mad Tatter. My sisters and I got 3 large matching tattoos. But the coolest part is, we went outside and hand selected a few leaves of varying colors, arranged them, took a picture and sent it to the studio. They were very prompt in responding and came back with great ideas. However, the art we ended up with, Martin drew on the spot before our appointment. It is so colorful and beautiful and REALISTIC! By far my favorite shop I have visited. We are all so thrilled and it really means a lot to us as it is so unique. Tyler, you rocked and you will totally make a name for yourself, kid. These guys are great!! I really wish I could take them back to Massachusetts with us! Highly recommended!!! read more
