Much needed spot to get real South Philly grub on Seven Mile Island, which makes sense bc that's where the owners are from. It's close to our house and I've eaten here a few times. Everyone knows that a great hoagie starts with the roll and Mad D's are top notch. They don't skimp on the meat in terms of quality and quantity, either My favorite hoagies are: the Italian Tuna Salad (made with oil, not mayo, roasted red peppers and sharp provolone); the traditional Italian; and both the chicken and regular cheesesteak. Order the steaks with cheese wiz and onions, the way they do it in Philly. The kids tell me that the breakfast sandwiches are very good, as well. We love Mad D's! We discovered Mad D's this summer when we had a hankering for cheesesteaks during the lock-down. We contacted them to see if they had curbside pick-up and found out that they do. We ordered 5 cheesesteaks with fried onions and sauce. The order was ready within 20 minutes and we picked them up without any contact. The cheesesteaks were delicious! We loved them and we have been back twice for more since then. The servers were very nice on the phone and during the pick-up and it was an easy transaction. We do a lot of curbside for take-out and the process at Mad D's was pleasure. We will be back for sure and I recommend it highly. read more

Outstanding cheesesteaks, fries, and even better service. And the place is absolutely spotless. A major plus in my book. We stopped there for dinner after a long day. Our kids were cranky and the owner went way out of her way to put smiles on their faces...and ours too! As others have mentioned, the bread is perfect, the meat is perfect, and real Wiz. And they serve hoagies....not 'subs'....not 'grinders'....hoagies, real hoagies. Next time we'll save room for the water ice. The legendary 'BRADLEY's' restaurant departed Stone Harbor a few years ago after many years of treating residents and vacationers to the best hoagies, cheesesteaks, sandwiches, etc. in this galaxy. They were quite simply extraordinary. There have been other options in SH and Avalon but none could step up to that level of excellence UNTIL NOW. Mad D's has filled this void and are a must stop for anyone who was saddened by the sudden departure of Bradley's. Do not deprive yourself of this opportunity. Go for it. The past few years vacations have been spent searching for the best cheese steak on Seven Mile Island. The search is now over. We tried both the steak and the chicken varieties, with American, of course (the wiz thing is an argument for a different forum) and both were simply outstanding. We arrived with a group of 11, and it was no problem. The staff was very friendly and attentive, the wait was short, and the food came out hot off the grill. My family and I love this place!! The owners are the nicest people! The food is delicious, and they take great interest in their customers. In fact, my daughter loves the mint chip water ice, and they will make sure they create some just for her when they know we will be in town. Their cheesesteaks are phenomenal, too! Mad D's has quickly become a mainstay for us when at the beach. New to Stone Harbor, the owners take pride in their offerings and personalize the experience. They are also happy to accommodate special requests. Very clean. Meals mostly take-out, however, they do have some counter and table seating.
