First time in any Macy's where I'm told there is no "plus size" section lol. So, voluptuous, curvy Black women don't exist in Tom's River? Not surprising!! I can actually believe it based on my experience attempting to shop in here. I was literally told by a salesperson that this store doesn't have a plus size section. I would have to go upstairs to Backstage. So typical of certain demographic areas. Surprisingly, Macy's on 34th Street have a super large plus size section. I don't often feel compelled to leave reviews for retail stores, but my experience with Rita in the fragrance section yesterday is something I just had to share, in hopes that the right professionals hear it. I am in professional marketing and impervious to insincere sales pitches, so Rita's performance and wonderful personality truly got my attention. She pulled me from the aisle with confidence & direction, not aggressiveness, and brought me not only to the fragrance brand I use but also the exact formula and chose a new version from the line that I fell in love with instantly. I am an extremely difficult client and very particular with the type of fragrances I like. It was like she was literally psychic, and her incredibly beautiful, confident personality won me over instantly. The experience prompted me to buy something that was useful for an upcoming event that I had not initially intented to purchase, spending 10x more at the checkout than I had intended (for an amazing deal) and wouldn't have done so without Rita. She would absolutely slay in corporate and has the power in her to strike multi-million dollar deals. Not only that, I could also tell she is an incredibly good, sweet, kind and wonderful person. She not only deserves a promotion, but I think it would be in Macy's best interest to put her in the face of VIPs and have her close massive deals, and I truly hope that someone out there reads this and finds Rita. I have directed teams for many years and have a knack for spotting talent, and a talent like this is an extremely rare find. Thanks again, Rita. Yesterday afternoon my husband tried on some men's 100% linen blazers at Macy's of Toms River, and the young man working there was very nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. In the end, my husband's size was not in stock there for the cut we wanted, neither, as the clerk had checked, was it in stock at any of the other local Macy's store locations. That said, with the kind assistance and help, we were able to go ahead and order my husband's size online. If they had had it in stock, I'd give 5 stars. So, my review is 4 stars. Went to high school in Toms River so I spent a lot of time at the Ocean County Mall and this particular Macy's growing up. 7 years later I can't believe how much of a mess this store has become. I have a Macy's card so I recently received a ton of coupons in the mail and had two $25 gift cards I was looking to use on some dress clothes. From the dress shirts, to the khakis, to the shoes, to the fitting room, the ENTIRE place was a wreck. There was next to no organization in any section. Not a single shelf was organized by size and very few had consistency even with the brands. For myself, who has a hard to find shirt size, this became like mission impossible. I was lucky to have another set of eyes to join me on the search and was able to find 4 shirts in the store I was interested in. But the fitting room brought more frustration. Not a single surface to set your clothes on. Instead you have to put all of your clothes on the floor while you change behind cowboy-like double doors that neither lock nor block the vision of other customers. Not comfortable in the least. Then I looked around for shoes and khaki pants. Nice shoe selection, but the service was awful. Guy said they wouldn't have my size, 14, before even looking. After about 2 minutes in the back he came back saying "I'm not seeing anything," which to me implies that he knows he could keep looking. Pants section was very similar to the section of dress shirts, not organized by size and barely arranged by style. Found nothing. Honestly wasted about 20-30 minutes in looking for things that should have been easily located and would have been in most Macy's locations. Pretty disappointed with this Macy's as a whole and will be in no rush to visit again. read more

I previously worked at this location and loved it! All of the employees are extremely nice and helpful. They make working here a comfortable experience and enjoyed speaking to everyone. Although while working here I happened to have a negative experience that I would like to share before you consider applying to work here. It is a very physically demanding job, this store requires you to be on your feet constantly. The floors are cement or cement covered with laminate tiles. This can be very hard on the body, especially your back, ankles, and feet. You are either going to be standing at a cash register for hours on end, or you're running around the store helping customers, putting out merchandise, straightening the shelves, cleaning the floor, and maybe even unloading truck deliveries, etc. Even the employees in the best shape seem to go home sore at the end of their shift. Customers can be difficult to deal with at times, but if you stay patient and treat them with respect they will do the same. It is important to remember that we are all customers, even retail employees, managers, and even corporate suits. We all have expectations of what good customer service looks like, feels like, and should be; that being said we can sometimes forget the massive pressures going on with retail employees. Beyond being unappreciated by my employer I was being called "entitled" and "tenacious" after talking to employees about how they like their job. Many of them enjoy their job, which I applaud. A little empathy and compassion can go a long way to making a bad day better, for both employee and customer. I never know what someone is going through, and I must remember my bad day is not the customers fault, and as customers our bad day is not the retail employee's fault either. All too often, attitudes from both parties can truly ruin a persons day, so I remain mindful during my interactions with other employees. Retail sales rarely provide pay and hours that will give anyone a "living wage". Many retail employees make minimum wage at best and live from paycheck to paycheck. Retail is the easiest work to get, perhaps beyond fast food work, although the turnover rate for retail is extremely high. Not everyone will be physically cut out for it or has the personality to be successful at it. Macy's will always provide their 8-hour employees with one 20 minute break and an hour lunch break. Stress kills, your stress levels, at least for me are going to be through the roof. Almost no one enjoys working in retail, it is not a career you would go to school to excel in, it is a "something for now" a "means to an end" job, entry level grunt work. Corporate retail motto is "if you dont like it, there's the door" which is how I was essentially relieved of my duties at this store because I was too "entitled" "tenacious" and "complained too much about management". I did my job and did not make problems with customers, I made sale, opened credit cards, even made some friends while working there. The stress on the body is bad enough, but mental and emotional stress can easily make physical pain that much worse. A stressful job can land you in the hospital with heart issues, make you manifest panic and anxiety when you even think about going to work. I was for the most part in the start a very passionate and outgoing employee, I treated everyone as they would want to be treated. This required treating both the employees, management, and customers with a measure of humanity. You have to deserve the labor are receiving by appreciating the labor you have. Happy employees, make happy customers and happy customers make BIG profits. When I was working at this store my customer service was good enough where I had customers who would ask for me by name. I worked hard, had great customer service skills, kept a clean area, volunteered for more responsibilities, I never took a day off and averaged a good amount of sales a week. After my 2 weeks of experience, not working here is the best decision I made, in my opinion. Thanks for reading this review. read more

I have been shopping in this store for many years. Today I was shocked and disappointed. I understand that the store was having sales and clearances going on but it looked like a bomb went off in there. The ONE fitting room that was opened was a disaster! Clothes everywhere. It was very uncomfortable trying on clothes. So I go to the only two registers opened with coupons in my hand (that they mailed me) one said $10 off sales, clearances etc...the elderly woman at the register had no idea whether I could use them. She asked me if I had a Macy card which I clearly had in my hand. She tried the coupon and it was not accepted. This didn't make sense to me. My items were on sale but a different type of sale? Very confusing!! Then she asked me if I had a bag and my large bag was on the counter in front of me. This poor woman was apparently more confused than I was and maybe should have gone home to lay down. I am thinking of canceling my card and shopping elsewhere. read more

I love going to this macys!!! I always have trouble putting outfits together but theres one assosiate there whose very helpful. Patti has helped me several times to come up with cute outfits for the different occasiona I was attending. I got complements on both outfits that she helped me put together. Went to Macy's in Ocean County to purchase a few items. As per usual, there was no one to take my purchase. Had to hike around to finally locate one counter open with 10 people in line. I huffed and puffed out of frustration because I have no patience. Customer Service is no longer a trend anymore but I had to have the items so I waited and waited and waited... you know the story. As I waited impatiently, I could not help but notice the saintly woman behind the counter. Greeting everyone with a smile, a kind word, no rushing the customer in front of her. Her name was Melinda. I remember her back during Christmas also working, Alone Again, naturally. Melinda worked through CoVid with a smile and now, fast forward, 6 months later, still healthy, happy with a smile on her face and a pep in her step. They shouldn't be open if they can't provide good customer service. Took me three tries to get a live person on the phone. Trying to get status on my watch I dropped off for repair prior to COVID. It's been 4 months and after 1) being put on hold for 20 minutes with absolute silence, I hung up, 2) called back multiple times to be connected to jewelry and the phone rang at least 30 times with no answer, 3) reaching an actual person only to be rushed off the phone with an attitude and no apologies, I have reached the conclusion that you get even worse service from the jewelry department on the phone than you do when you shop there in person, if that's even possible. This post is specifically in support and appreciation for Shaun/Sean (not sure of spelling) in the men's department. We shopped with my father for his suit for my wedding. Shaun was incredibly helpful and walked us through a variety of options from suits to ties. We had the suit tailored through Macy's and Shaun called personally to tell us when the suit was ready. Probably the worst Macys and Mall in general in entire country.No wonder all big department stores are in trouble and been closing their locations nationwide.Whoever manages this particular Macy's should be fired along with whoever does the buying,this Macys should not be even called Macy's because it's nothing like other stores.I stopped shopping in Macy's five years ago when I use to come in and leave empty handed because there was nothing decent there to buy,it's a joke.Went there two days ago was looking last minute to add something to a gift,couldn't find one decent item,everything is junk,overpriced too,but that's not the worst,the worst is how disorganized and messy entire store was,that's why I say that whoever runs it,should be fired.Every items is misplaced,all brands are mixed in with other stuff,I couldn't believe,it's like being in Marshals when you have to dig though everything to find something,but even worst.Nova days everything is being blamed on Covid,how convenient.The store looks like it's going out of business,and no,don't say it's Covid and it's hard to find inventory,because I am in fashion business myself,there is ton of inventory out there,lots of brands to choose,instead of sticking with same old,same old that you have contracts with.The bottom line is,the worst Macy's on the planet!!!! I am profoundly disgusted by this Macy's store's management. Right before Christmas I had an "above-and-beyond" employee named Stephanie help me select a number of purses for my mother and sisters. Extremely knowledgeable about the quality of the products as well as the style associated with them. Also super charming to boot--every employee and shopper that she interacted with during my encounter with her was left with a huge smile and usually laughing too. The bags were such a sensational hit at Christmas, that I returned today to purchase an item related to one of them and also to profusely thank Stephanie for her help. I was outraged to learn that she no longer works there, and that she had likely been fired. If this is true, Macy's Ocean County has just many huge customers, as I just spent several thousand dollars there before Christmas, and my work associates and I frequently spend an extraordinary amount of money there on suits and such. I am beyond disgusted with the management here if this is the case, as Stephanie appears to be not only an incredible asset to the store's profitability, but also an affable, smart, honest, hardworking woman. I can not say enough good things about the way I was treated by this employee, and therefore to know that Macy's terminated her baffles and disgusts me. Why would Macy's decimate their customer service like this so quickly and so strongly? I've never been so appalled by a retail store in my life. Went to Macy's on Friday and went to the houseware section. The checkout clerk was most attentive and told me about the sale items and also let me know if I used my Macys card I would get an addtional percentage off my purchase. That sealed the deal for me. She even smiled and seemed happy to help me and be employed. Some stores make you feel like you are interrupting them when you approach the check out counter (not macy's) other stores in general. I have had two HORRIBLE experiences at this Macy's. On one occasion, I was shopping for a watch for a friend's birthday. When I asked the sales lady if I could see the watch, she responded with the price of the watch......as if to say "you can't afford this". Not only did I end up buying the watch, I had it beautifully gift wrapped in Macy's.......because I knew my friend would like it and I was out of time to shop elsewhere (never bought jewelry from them again). Just this Christmas Eve my kids dragged me back to this store to buy a present for their older brother whom they adore. After standing in line for over a half hour, when it was my turn to be rung up the cashier told me she was closed and I had to go to another line. I was furious, demanded to see a manager, who was also rude, an overall horrible experience. Another cashier who witnessed the entire fiasco was the only one kind enough to offer to help me. My take on Macy's: They are racist and indifferent to those who "appear" to be beneath them in class. I bring home over 100,000.00 a year, and I am of Hispanic descent. And I will NEVER give Macy's my hard earned money again. read more
