I did my wedding registry at this Macy's and it was such a terrible experience. I tell all of my newly-engaged friends to avoid this place and register somewhere else instead. The customer service was awful and the employees were uninformed. We had to go back a few times to make some exchanges and each time what should have taken 10 minutes took anywhere from 30-60 minutes because the employees working didn't know how to do a return or exchange in the computer system. Also, they arent able to look up your registry so when you bring something in you have to have a gift receipt in order to return it (which oftentimes for a wedding people don't do that). Other stores like Bed Bath & Beyond will give you cash back (not just store credit) for anything you return and they can look it up on your registry. lastly, selections at Macy's vary so much that oftentimes they don't have the same merchandise as online or in other stores so you never know what you're gonna get Macy's in Santa maria was one big headache Dont do a wedding registry there! read more

This particular Macy's location is an unfortunate victim of what is the Santa Maria Mall. The best comparison I can make is the inner-city "broken window" metaphor. The mall sucks, thus it brings Macy's down with it. I do not envy the task of the management to keep morale up. This is probably a true test of leadership. That being said... The store is tired. Plain and simple. The carpets are worn down EVERYWHERE and the atmosphere was musty. My review is for the Men's department, specifically the suiting section, which was not very good. The selection was horrible :( Not enough variety in color, style, cuts, or brands. I guess not enough people dress up on the central coast. There were only one or two store associates to man the entire department. After I hung up on a very important job-related phone call, I began to wander the section, but no one greeted me. I never foresee myself needing a suit in the 600+ range and I'm not a suit connoisseur or Haute when it comes to fashion, so I'm comfortable with myself to shop at Men's Warehouse. I drove an additional 40 mins out of my way to go there instead, which in this case I recommend. If you're set on Macy's, then please shop at Macy's Online for a suit to have delivered to the store or your home. read more

I have been a VERY LOYAL Macy's customer for many years and for the most part had excellent customer service, that is why I shopped there. This last weekend I encountered one of the rudest employees ever. She was in the shoe department, and directed me to the BLUE WALL for information regarding a shoe I had in my hand, stating "THEY ARE NOT PART OF MACYS"! Well, excuse me, but when I am IN Macy's they are part of Macy's. The young lady should have said she would help me, by walking me over to the correct person or area, since she was only standing there doing NOTHING. I am paying off my card and giving my business to another company that will manage its' employees and treat customers' appropriately. Normally, the interior layout of Macy's is typically on the high-end (same with the selection) and so are the prices. However, this location used to be a Robinsons-May, and when Macy's took over, the layout of the store (save for a few minor changes) has remained the same. Even the pricing policies have remained somewhat the same because I have been able to find good deals occasionally here (and that's quite rare in most Macy's I've been to). For instance, I remember buying lots of brand men's underpants here because it had been marked down 75 percent (down to less than $3 for a two-pack)! And sometimes the home section has good deals too, depending on when and what time of the year you go. Thus, if you are looking for a bargain at Macy's, but don't mind the store being a little more down to earth, try shopping at this location. read more

Went in there the other day for my first Mac buying experience ever (mind you, only to buy one of their collector's limited edition lines) and it was a very unpleasant experience. one employee- i believe her name started with a "B"- was giving me attitude the entire time. yes, i was taking my time. but why was i taking my time? because MAC aint the cheapest make up and i needed to choose wisely in what i was buying for the simpsons collection. the whole thing just made my evening more stressful and disappointing and it was quite a shame because this brand of make up sure does get a lot of praise and hoopla! read more

I recently got a gift card and decided to get my makeup done at MAC.. I have had it done at other locations twice before and didn't end up liking it very much. The girl at this Macy's location was super sweet and didn't pressure me into something I didn't like. I ended up really happy with it. A couple days later I purchased a jacket online and it ended up not fitting well. I returned it to the store shortly afterwards and they didn't carry the item in store. The price had since gone up online but they not only honored the price I ordered it at but gave me an additional discount. And shipped to my home both times free. I had never ordered online from Macy's and don't usually like to order clothes without trying on first but it made the process easy. read more

M.a.c is the place that use to get me excited every weekend. But this m.a.c counter was the first time I disliked the employees. You'd think they'd be like every other m.a.c counter/store friendly, helpful, amazing?! YOU'D THINK. HOWEVER THEY ARE NOT. They have a pre-judgement attitudes as soon as you approach the counter. Most of the employees dont take the Tim or even seem intrested if you look like you dont have money. Sad to their knowledge I dress comfortable. When im not working said only time I get good help is whem im dressed in my work clothes. Only one girl was nice and seemed not to judge me when I was in my gym clothes. I will only go to see Dannika and the cute blonde with highlights.. The only reason I gave 3 stars are because those 2 girls were amazing. read more

The Mac counter in santa Maria has horrible service and its unorganized their lip liners are all broken unsharpened, there aren't any sanitary wipes to wipe off the lipsticks. I waited over 20 min to get someone to help me and finally a girl acknowledge me gave some lipsticks to tried on and said "I'm going on break but someone will be here to help you" no one ever came to help me, I could it stolen all this makeup and no one would have even known. While waiting for the service I didn't get watching this one girl apply makeup on two different women using same brushes without cleaning them so gross..... Ugh this store. I don't like shopping here because everything is overpriced. It's unreal to me. BUT I had to do a few returns for Christmas and they wouldn't give me cash. So now I have this $120 gift card. I've been trying to spend it. I can't find 1 thing to purchase. Their location is so sloppy and messy. Their workers hate their jobs so you can tell they don't like helping customers. I couldn't find the prices to anything I was looking at. It was so frustrating. I was asked to stand in line and wait for someone who could get me the shoes in the sizes I needed. This Macys needs to do some customer service training with their employees. Ordered product online which turned out to be too small. Receipt was not included in shipping box. Drove 30 miles to Santa Maria store to exchange (nearest to me). Purchase could not be found as no receipt was sent with delivery. Associate helping was chewing gum and said since the item is nearly 50% discount now, that's what would be refunded (replacement was not present in store). Team leader summoned after 15 minutes waiting for phone call to be answered. It never fails every single time I go in to Macy's and shop their Loss Prevention follows the heck out of me. At first I just ignored them but after shopping their for years it's so irritating. I have a Macy's card and DO NOT STEAL!!! I don't know what to do I've mentioned it to the cashier in the past but don't know what to do now. Now I remember why I shop online. This Macy's is horrible. One person working the shoe dept. and they don't have any regular sizes in the styles I ask for . I recommend that you stay within this sanctuary and dare not veer off into the wild (the mall proper). I live in AG and Macy's is the closest "nice" department store to us and we went there for a sports coat for a new job. I was pleased with the selection of low cost coats. We found one that my wife liked (yes, if you are married you know this is the only opinion that matters). The coat needed a little tailoring, that is where things started to unravel. The sales rep gave me a great quote on the tailoring so I decided to come back with some old coats at home and get them done too. Great plan, right? I came back the next day only to find out from the manager that they don't do it there, they send it out to LA, it takes 4 weeks, and she admitted they don't even know how to fit the coat and mark it properly to get the tailoring done right. They recommended a local dry cleaner (who had horrible Yelp reviews) ... oh how I miss Gottschalks in SLO. read more

Happened to be in SM with my daughter who happened to need a swim-suit. It was my first visit to this particular Macy's. The first thing I noticed was the displays (mannequins). They seemed poorly styled, sloppy, like the clothes were the wrong size or the associates hadn't touched them up since the mannequins were changed. The racks were also unnecessarily messy, as it was a Tuesday afternoon during school-time. She found something suitable to try on and we went into the dressing room, which was absolutely disgusting. How can a store be torn up THAT badly (I'm looking at you, carpets!)... Does "corporate" EVER walk this store and look into those fitting rooms? I would not have tried on or purchased anything for myself just based off the fitting room situation, but lucky for Macy's my daughter really needed a swimsuit and we had to buy it that day. So sad, I really wanted to like the store, but it was just too gross for me to go back, willingly. read more

Yes this isn't the nicest Macy's I've ever been to. And our mall stinks BUT every time I've gone in the sales people are helpful. and when I can't find stuff they order it and ship it to our house. Very convenient!! And a little known fact is the Macy's will honor sale prices one day before the sales start. We've gotten some very good deals on home items this way. And this is new stuff not clearance items!! So if you're looking for a high end Macy's don't come here. LOL but we're a small town with a crappy mall. I used to always buy all my makeup at Gottchalks and always attended their private shopping events to buy makeup, but since its closing I have had switched to buy at the counters at this macys though it is quite a drive. From the makeup counters to the people on register throughout different departments, this is by far the worst customer service I have received from retail store. I usually spend a good amount of money on makeup every time I would visit the store, mostly from the chanel and mac counter, but since my last experience I will not be returning there again and now do all my makeup and fragrance shopping at Sephora. I went in looking for a to buy foundation and some powder due to my skin lightening up during the winter. I had a card for a sample of any foundation and wanted to try the new chanel one. Usually there would be a younger hispanic lady and an older oriental one working every time i would make a Chanel purchse.The lady working at the counter that day was a larger lady, dark hair, with almost clown-like makeup and drawn on eyebrows. For such a brand, her appearance was not professional at all! I was almost scared to ask, but I asked the lady if she could match me up with the right color and was very hesitant about it. Instead of giving me a sample and matching me up, she kept trying to pressure me into making appoint for a makeup consultation with her, and said that I did not know how to apply my makeup and it looked sloppy and that she would show me how to do it right because I "obviously had difficulty". Ive had many rude employees that I have come across while shopping at this Macy's, but this one really crossed the line and made me furious. I have done makeup for years and have even worked with a makeup and skincare company where I had to learn more and take classes to perform makeup on their clients. I come into Macy's Santa Maria often, since it is closest to our home. The lady Janice in the home departments is an excellent employee always friendly and helpful. She has helped me in the past with Down Pillows and Sheets and today also helped with my purchase of towels, hand towels and wash cloths, totaling over 300.00. However toward the end of my purchase the Manager Janet don't have her last name, came up to Janice being very rude and said you must take lunch. I asked Janet if Janice could finish my purchase since she was just about finished. She avoided me and had her go to lunch not acknowledging my question. Afterward Janice went to lunch and Janet asked me to show all my receipts and looked into my bags like I was stealing. I do love Macy's so I will continue to go to Macy's but only to Santa Barbara. I will contact Frankie the District Manager ASAP and make a complaint about Janet but will also give Janice an excellent review. Terrible customer service ! I had to bring back clothes I purchased last week to have the sensors removed . ( no biggie , mistakes happen ) I walked up to a register a saleswoman was right behind me fixing clothing racks , she didn't acknowledge me then two other saleswomen came to the register to clock-in . I feel this is not a real Macy's. I read the sign that says Macy's but when i walk in I feel like im at a fancier version of kmart. The prices and items scattered about are a huge difference from regular Macy's. This store had a DJ in the middle of it today. He was good but playing hip hop in the middle of a "upscale" retail establishment?? and the perfume cloud omgosh! I could smell it throughout the whole store! This store seems to be a outlet version of Macy's maybe to target the lower income markets in the area but it cheapens the store and makes me feel less luxurious buying expensive things from them. Not a good version. The staff is also not very upscale feeling. The management seemed to be only there because they started as cashiers 50 years ago and couldnt be fired so got promoted type thing. I dont like the outrageous makeup and unproffesional attire the women working where wearing and am quite underwhelmed. read more
