I once owned Macy's stock, but I sold it a few years back, especially after the online business started booming. I've always been a fan of the brick-and-mortar shopping experience. As I mentioned, I don't believe you can find some of the best bargains by spending hours online. Meanwhile, I still happily shop at Macy's, particularly at my favorite store in New York City. I visited Macy's on Black Friday to take advantage of the amazing deals. Specifically, I went to shop for the "freebies." Yes, you read correctly. Free dollars when all is said and done. This store was certainly on the Dave Ramsey approved shopping list. Macy's is well known for their generous rebates. There is actually a Macy's rebate center url where one can print out the forms needed or even use as a tool to research what items are applicable for rebates. There was a multitude of items on sale with the exact amount rebate. Hence, the item is free in the end. The great part about these particular rebates is these are paid in prepaid VISA gift cards. I like this feature because I can assign these to my gas and grocery budget upon receipt. I was most impressed by the fact this particular location had almost all of the items in stock at noon on Black Friday. This was impressive due to the fact they opened at 5 PM the prior evening and also at 5 AM on Black Friday. But for two items I was in search of, all were available and purchased by yours truly. What a fiscally friendly way to scratch off some names on the holiday gift list! A huge shoutout of thanks to my great friend and fellow Yelper Danielle D. for sharing this cost savings opportunity with me. In addition to the items being in stock, I was impressed by the level of customer service I received in each of the departments I visited. This holds true for departments where I didn't even make a purchase such as the perfume department. A wonderful saleswoman noticed me struggling with my countless bags and pillows I was trying to balance. The strap on the pillows came loose several times forcing me to stop and reshuffle my packages. She approached me and offered assistance. What a doll! The highlight of this shopping excursion is hands down the excellent signage. The store did a stellar job with displays and signage. They couldn't have made it more effortless if they tried. The signs clearly indicated free after rebate and these particular items were well positioned on displays throughout their perspective departments. I greatly appreciate the attention to detail, customer service and superb ability to maintain a high volume of items in demand for customers on Black Friday. Macys has come up with a new type of bait and switch and because of their business practices I will never shop in Macys again. Today I went into the Men's Department to buy two pair of Haggard pants. The pants are always $44.95. I always use my Macys credit card because the company sends me monthly coupons that are good for all products, "even products on sale." When I got to the register I was told none of the coupons could work. They are valid until August 13, but not valid today. I expected at least 30 percent off. I decided not to buy the pants. This was the second time the store refused my coupons. I told the clerk I didn't want the pants. After I left the store I received a noticed I charged $96.28 on my card. I went back to the store and found a manager. She told me Macys doesn't honor the coupons because the pants were on "Special." That's right. They are always $44.95, but they place a red sign over the displays that says Special. Bait and Switch. The bait, the coupon. The switch, special instead of sale. The had the charge removed, cancelled my credit card and will never shop in Macys again. I was a gold credit card customer and that's how I was treated. I recommend you beware of this Macys practice and boycott the stores. read more

Second time at this location and I'm not very impressed. We were walking through the store and in the men's suit sections there are needles all over the floor! It's so dangerous! My boyfriend was casually walking through and yelped/grabbed his foot suddenly because one of the needles went through his shoe! It makes me so anxious to go in and walk around now. I happen to love Macy's but each store is different and most of them are hit or miss. The are also rather expensive. Their quality though can't be beat. Very few items I have bought here have ever ripped or anything like that. I find them good for shirts and blouses especially. Their handbags and shoes are REALLY expensive. FYI.. I have purchsed handbags at T.J. Max for half the price and some of the handbags there are just as nice as the ones at Macy's. I also love Florals and Macy's is VERY good for that. Most of my floral fashion items have been purchased at Macy's. And they do have frequent sales. read more

Why, no REALLY, why doES MACYS find it so difficult to be helpful, courteous, efficient? Point in case. Bought a nice dress, needed alterations. Drop off was just so, so. No appreciation for using their alterations Dept, could have gone anywhere. 1st off, headquarters told me on second floor in men's suits. Well I knew Men's was on 1st. I was right. How did they not know where to go for alterations. So a week it should be ready. I'm a day before but have to go to mall, thought I would check see if it's ready, nice to save trip and time. I call. None of the phone prompts took me to the right Dept. Crazy huh? So FNALLY I GET TO ALTERATIONS. Is it ready? "Well I'm not supposed to tell you this, but yes. If you request early, we charge extra." Well, I didn't request, just inquired! Ya da ya da ya da....you get the idea! This is so silly! Seriously! Instead of making a customer a little more happy at no additional cost, or effort. You 'remind' them how much your doing for them and they should submit to the idea they are lucky to let us shop there! What, ? money in the drawer early isn't motivation enough! I hate this company. I'm YET AGAIN reminded why I try my best to avoid this department store like the plague. I made an order online and wanted to return in store. I stood at the counter in the junior ladies department. I waited not even 5 minutes. A women with short blond hair comes back to the counter and says in the nastiest tone "I'm clocked out, go find another counter. I'm not going to help you." While I can understand you're off the clock now, you're shitty attitude is uncalled for blondie. You could've easily just have said "I'm sorry I have already signed out, let me find someone else to help you." Came here for some shorts and a pair of flip flops, and it was a good experience until we were waiting in the men's shoes section for 5 minutes with no one there. There previously was an older man there so I understand he may have been having some issues out of his control that he needed to attend to, but at least have someone take his place. I went to another section where there was another older man who worked there, who could not seem to keep his eyes off of me. It was as if I was going to run out with everything in the store. I'm not sure if he knew what he was doing, but it isn't the most comfortable situation when every move you make is being watched. Both older men were personable and kind otherwise, though. DO NOT ORDER FURNITURE FROM MACYS! I purchased a couch in June with the promise from 3 different employees, including a manager, promising I would have the in 8 weeks at the most. In speaking with them my couch would not even be in their warehouse until September 22. This is so ridiculous and no matter who you talk to all they can tell you is that it will be ready in September. To add: My furniture did not make it to the warehouse until October 7. They only delivered my couch and not my ottoman. I now have to wait 2 weeks for my ottoman because they only deliver Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Plus they're "soonest available" is 2 weekends from now. Unbelievable. Their customer service is absolutely no help and the managers in the store don't even know what they're doing. read more

I went to Macy's to purchase shoes and on the way to that department, I stopped at the MAC makeup counter. I rarely ask for help because I know my way around a cosmetic department and I have been using MAC ever since it made its debut. This time I asked Jonathan, the department manager, for some suggestions. He was so helpful and he found the perfect colors for me. With a few brush strokes I looked as if I had a total makeover. Macy's, Palm Beach Gardens, is the worst store I have ever dealt with. It took me half an hour to get through to anyone live in order to change a spa appointment. I finally had to call a number fr stolen credit cards and the gentlemen on that number was very helpful and got me through to someone. But their phone system is worthless. Not only does no-one answer the phones but there is no number even mentioned for spa appointments. No wonder Macy's is going out of business. It will be no loss. read more

The store can be fine, if a bit pricey but the noise level from conflicting, loud music is so irritating that I try to get in and out quickly. The worst is if you go to the Optique eyeglass store. There is music piped into the store and then much loud thumping music coming from one of the makeup counters. Max? The worst customer service I've ever encountered. We ordered an item, which happened to be the last item of this type in the inventory. They have a 30-minute time limit for correcting orders listing an incorrect address. We met that time limit only to discover that although we had purchased items continously at the store and on line for the past eight years, they listed an address that was over two residences old. They were able to ship the item back to the warehouse after the timely correction was made, and the item was quickly returned to the warehouse. Here is where the gross incompetence arises. The various individuals acting "in loco management status" indicated they had no way to contact the warehouse timely to send the item to the address provided on line. Keep in mind this item was already paid for. At one time Macy's was the poster child for excellence - WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED???? The gross incompetence was mind boggling. How do they communicate - with beer cans and strings? Who writes their policies - a group a ten-thousand monkeys randomly typing on keyboards. My advice is that buyers NEVER shop at this once great store. They could screw up a one-person funeral. The customer service team had their hands tied with mindless policies and limited information. Senior management should find the responsible individual[s] and give them a plastic retirement watch. read more

Would give it zero stars if I could. Do not buy expensive furniture and add on an insurance policy. We bought an expensive leather module couch and added on an insurance policy. This policy was for failure of the product to live up to its written standards, not abuse or failure to maintain it. The trouble began when the leather faded. They sent a rep to examine it, he wrote it up and left. Weeks later after calling them many times we found out it was denied. It seems it was our fault. Nonsense. They were trying their best to get out of paying for it. Like most insurance companies, their goal was to delay or deny. What a joke. We inquired with some people in the industry and told it was clearly a fault that should have been covered. If you insist on buying from Macy all I can say is buyer beware. The management at the store does not care. They blow you off by saying to call the insurance company which we did many times. Lesson learned. Gee I wonder why Macy is doing terrible and might merge or sell off assets? A lousy company that's why. read more

Additionally, Macy's manager said tuxedo shop isn't a part of Macy's so there's nothing she could do... Really? One more thing, when I went back to return the suit. 30min after they opened. I walk through Macy's to get to one of my Fave store at this Mall, Lush. I'll review them later. On my way back out I stopped by the shoe department. I've been looking to buy gold shoes and they had a bunch on display.. (Way outside my price range). So I wandered over to the clearance section and found a cure pair of sandals. They only put one shoe on display and you have to request the other. So I head to the counter where the young lady was assisting a customer. At this time of year in south Florida there are a lot of tourists, many from Canada and points north seeking warmer climate. The lady in front of me was Canadian and apparently had a laundry list of requirements for her purchase. Now, I didn't listen to/ hear the whole conversation. I don't know what was happening and quite frankly don't care. What I know is I asked the young lady twice to call in someone to assist and she didn't. And that left me sitting there for fifteen minutes easily just waiting for the other shoe (pun intended). ;) In the end when the young lady finally came to assist me I could see she was having a bad day and I wasn't about to make it worse for her so I calmly completed my transaction and offered her words of support. So here's my take: the young lady was wrong for not calling in backup sooner. (There should be an intercom system or something where this young lady could call for customer assistance at her station. The smaller stores have it but not Macy's ??!!) The backup was wrong for not showing up sooner. (She did eventually show up at the very end of the transaction of the tourist). Macy's was wrong for not having more personnel available to assist someone who might be dealing with a difficult customer. It was lunch time on a week day. Was it some difficult planetary alignment or just bad planning... Don't know but won't be heading back soon to find out. read more

Haven't been to this Macy's in over a year for good reason. Only to come back and see that nothing has changed (CUSTOMER SERVICE). What. A. F***ING. S***. Show. Specifically the shoe department. The service is absolutely horrible. Asked someone if they could get me a shoe to try on, that task literally got passed on to 5 different people before someone was even willing to go into the back room to look. But OF COURSE not before scanning it 3x to see if they had it in the back room and proceeds to ask me if I want them to check anyways....seriously? Instead of asking me how about instead of asking me just go back and look instead of wasting my time with that piece of scanner because you can't walk your lazy butt to the back. Not only that but even asked me if I wanted to buy the floor sample since it fit anyways so she wouldn't have to go in the back and check. From the time it took for me to pick a shoe to try on, find help, actually receive help, and only to be told be I should just buy the floor sample so she wouldn't have to go in the back 45 MINUTES!!!!! Customer service use to be so good, employees were actually helpful and nice. What happen? read more

After recently moving to the area I needed a couch and chair. I went to Macy's and found what I needed. The delivery was made on1/16/15, but the chair delivered was not the one I ordered and I sent it back. The correct chair was delivered on 2//5 and I paid my bill. The problem is that Macy's has double charged me for my chair. They owe me $590 and as of this date have not refunded me for a mistake they made. I have been assured by representatives that a refund is being processed three times since early February, still waiting. I urge anyone doing business with Macy's to exercise extreme caution. Sorry for other reviewers' experiences, but I just had probably THE best retail shopping experience in my life this morning at Macy's! I have a condition that makes it hard for me to be in large WiFi/flourescent lighted areas (it makes me dizzy) so I was sort of dreading my difficult task of finding good-fitting-undies and a wallet with special 'features' for my 90 year old father-in-law. The sales person in men's clothing dept, Norman, efficiently a) answered general questions completely then followed up with questions to me to clarify what my selection priorities were, b) he then explained verbally AND pointed the differences between options on the merchandise concisely, c) he made sure I got to where the merchandise was located (not the generalized, 'oh,it's over in the back' referral that can leave you frustratingly wandering the aisles, d) when returning back to his register area - he saw another customer waiting where there wan't a salesperson and told him he'd be right back after taking care of my purchases! Literally, after my initial purchase, I went to the car...then remembered there were other men's clothing items that I had wanted to get for other family members months previously, but could never 'find the answers' for the best fit. I turned around and went in again and found Norman. He repeated the same effecient, polite, and informative service and I walked out with purchases that I'd been unable to make before because I'd never gotten informative answers previously. I came into your store today to return two pairs of maternity jeans that were purchased for me as a gift. In addition to the return, I had over $200.00 worth of merchandise that I was going to purchase. The lady handling my transaction told me that I could not return my jeans because I did not have my receipt and they were purchased with my mother's macy's credit card. I asked her to get a manager and she stated, "you can go to another cashier, but they can't help you either". Needless to say, I left without returning my items or purchasing my product.
