Love this location, so close to home and full of special memories. From Jones to Macys.

Years ago I managed a store in what was then the Metro North mall. Life happened and I found myself living and working on the west coast. Fast forward 40 years and I am back in Missouri, retired, married, and living in the Northland. Knowing that Metro North has been gone for many years I was curious about Macy's and whether it was the same part of the original mall. Needing a fleece jacket and shirt, I took the opportunity to check it out. First, I found out that it is the original location and building that was an anchor of the Metro North mall. Although it sits alone on a sprawling lot you'd never know it once you were in. The interior is clean and organized. Sadly - though not surprisingly - there weren't many customers and employees were few and far between. However, those we interacted with were friendly, personable, and happy to share their thoughts. I found the men's selection sufficient but I did have to cull through numerous racks. No biggy as I left with the jacket I wanted and a nice enough shirt. As to pricing, most things are marked down from their manufacturer's suggested retail price, so not as pricey as one might expect. The experience left me reminiscent of days gone by when mall shopping was the norm. The only non-punitive deficit is that the escalators were non-functional but I get it. Pro tip: They take Apple Pay! If shopping in a pleasant environment staffed with friendly people and the benefits only available in such a place is appealing, I can highly recommend Macy's. There is a reason brick and mortar stores are closing. Due to lack of customer service. I stood at a jewelry counter today for about 15 minutes with an associate less than 7 ft away from me on a phone who did see me but continued to have a conversation on the phone. I know staffing is a problem but what staff you have should be attentive. There's a reason Macy's is dying. A slow death and lack of customer service is not helping. read more

I love this location! The proximity itself is a bit strange as it's not really near any other retail, but It's always clean, decently stocked, and the associates are always friendly. In a day and age where in-person shopping is becoming a thing of the past, I look forward to opportunities to come shop here and splurge a little. I've had great experiences at clothing, handbags, and fragrance. Clothing selections could be a bit better, but overall I'm a fan girl. read more

Macys has merchandise you don't find anywhere else in this area. When you want a nice coat, dress, pants, etc., this is a great place to go. They have great sales and I never had trouble finding help if I needed it. Would hate to lose this store. read more

I wanted to buy myself a new Citizen watch since my old Citizen watch wasn't an Eco-Drive and working 60+ hours for 17 weeks in a row deserves some kind of reward. #TreatYoSelf I didn't want to drive down to Leawood to the Macy's I've been to in the past even though it was a nice day to cruise around the city. This Macy's was a lot closer to me even though I'm not usually in this area of Kansas City. The parking lot was huge and you will not have issues finding a spot. Everything outside was nothing special and there was a huge area where there were vehicles parked in a fenced-off area. I didn't know why they were there but that's okay. I wasn't familiar with where the watches were, but I wasn't in a rush to go anywhere for the day and wandered around. It was located towards the center of the store next to the escalators going up on the first floor. The lady behind the counter was already helping a couple and told me that she would be right with me. I was looking at the different kinds of watches that were sold. I did my research so I knew which one I wanted but looked at others behind the glass. Once she was available, I had a closer look at the watch and tried it on. After I agreed to buy it, she rang me up and brought me to a nearby counter to get the links removed to fit my wrist. It took a few tries until it was how I wanted the watch and it was free. They only change out the watch links for watches that they sell; otherwise, they won't touch it just as a FYI. I didn't really look around after I bought the watch and left. This Macy's may look run down on the outside with that fenced off area but still has the goods on the inside. I will probably be back in the future if I needed something from here. read more

Over priced. They charge more than double for colognes. I do not recommend shopping here unless you want to waste money on overpriced items.

Very little selection. No sizes above 12. Lots of staff but no one offered to assist me. How is this place still in business.

Love Macy's, they always have what I want, excellent service, good selection and a definite lack of shoppers looking for quantity over quality. Whenever I tell people Macy's is my favorite store, they balk at the prices, but I always will argue that they are not only competitive, but often better and the selection, quality of experience is worth it. I went shopping on Black Friday. I had great service and experience. I turned in the rebate forms was turned in correctly and now for the second year they have refused to give me my rebate. I wonder if they ever return the rebates. Total scam!!!!! read more

Just left the makeup counter at Macy's. Now, granted I'm in a rush and a customer in a rush is never on their best behavior. I found something quickly for a last min birthday gift. I gave it to Rebecca Graham in the Shiseido counter (MAC cosmetics) and she rang it up for me..$5.00 each! What a steal! Well, here's where the 5 star service came in from Rebecca. I asked for a box so I could have some kind of presentation for this said Birthday. Rebecca said "let me see what I can find". She went above and beyond! Macy's - Presentation is EVERYTHING! - Department Stores Near Me - Kansas City, Missouri

I actually like this Macy's location despite the deteriorating mall where it is housed. Parking is never a problem, there is never a crowd, and there's usually items marked down. The merchandise is always well-organized even during store-wide sales and clearances making it easy to find your size. At more-frequented locations, happy hunting because the items are scattered or bought up by other customers. My fiancee was able to find multiple Kenneth Cole and Perry Ellis pants in his size for less than $30 and dressy belts for $10. The same style at Express would have run triple the price. On my most recent visit, I scored a pair of nude-toned wedges with flower embellishments for about $30 that was on clearance. Macy's often runs coupons in the Sunday edition of the Kansas City Star helping discount the cost even more. As one of the only remaining tenants in Metro North Mall, I do wonder when and if Macy's will bail to Zona Rosa. read more

Like the Macy's at Oak Park Mall, it's on the lower end of Macy's. The fact that it is one of the only remaining vestiges of Metro North Mall is just, well.... sad. As a kid, Metro North was the place to be in the Northland, and now, it's a ghost town. Ahh, memories. :) read more

Most department stores carry the same type of stuff... but what sets Macy's apart is their employees. Every single Macy's I've ever been to (nationwide) has employees that are kind, sweet and always make sure you get the highest possible discount. I came to this particular Macy's during their Friends and Family sale and got this beautiful Dooney & Bourke handbag and Citizen watch for gifts. The employee that I specifically worked with in the handbag department, Vickey, was so wonderful. She was juggling many customers but still managed to give personal attention to each of us. She was very patient about checking prices on items for me and literally gave me the best deal (even better than the coupon I gave her). She rocks. Macy's rocks. Shop here. read more

This review focuses on my recent experience shopping in the menswear department at Macy's on Barry Road. My son and I went to Macy's, and we were on a mission. We had to find blazers and slacks for him to take to Washington, DC for his summer internship. We wanted something stylish that didn't need a lot of tailoring, due to our tight time schedule. My son is slender but has broad shoulders and can be tricky to fit. And I didn't want to spend $500-$700 per jacket. So, after looking online at selections of other stores and reading reviews of other establishments that promised we'd liked the way we looked or buy one suit get two free, we headed to Macy's, fully expecting it to be one of several stops of the day. We went to the second floor to the menswear department and looked for a salesperson. They were, admittedly, in short supply, but when we did find one, named Abu, he proved to be immensely helpful. Macy's carried several brands in many sizes and at a variety of price points, including their own brands, Perry Ellis and Charter Club, as well as Polo, Hickey Freeman, Marc Jacobs and others. The quality felt good and solid and the pieces seemed well made. I am no fashionista and certainly not an expert on men's attire, but my son knows his stuff, and Abu was knowledgeable, too. Together, we were able to select four nice jackets and four pairs of slacks. Abu helped with the fitting and only the jackets will need minimal tailoring in the sleeves. Because we are on a tight schedule, we opted to handle the tailoring ourselves, but Macy's handle this for you if you need this service. Abu also helped us select several dress shirts and socks. I was particularly pleased with the dress shirts. Because of my son's build, the shirts we buy often have to be taken in around the body, but Abu knew the brands that were cut in a slimmer style, so my son got a nice fit with no tailoring required. Macy's was having an amazing sale Memorial Day weekend, and the items we bought were at least 50% off. When you opened a Macy's charge account, you received an additional 20% off. I already have an account, but Abu helped my son open one,and we were able to save at least 70% on these items! I'm only in favor of charge accounts if you pay them off in full each month, so that's what we'll do, but the additional 20% was too good to pass up, plus my son can now build credit for himself. In short: by visiting Macy's and working with a skilled salesperson, we were able to find quality merchandise at amazing prices that fit our needs. I'd have given the experience 5 stars based on that and Abu's service alone, but it took a VERY long time to go through the credit process (Abu said they'd been having issues with that department that day), and it was tiring. If not for that, this Macy's experience, which included a mom who hates to shop, shopping with her son who hates to shop and finding everything they needed at excellent prices, turned out to be a big success! read more

I'm a fan of Macy's. Let me count the ways. 1. They are single-handedly keeping Metro North Mall on life support 2. They are a "true" department store in this gawd-awful age of "convenience" type/Walmart inspired checkouts (I'm lookin' at you J.C. Penney) 3. The nostalgia of that star on my red bag that reminds me of the time I shopped at the 34th and Broadway Macy's in Herald Square NYC and felt like I could almost transport myself back in time to see Miracle on 34th Street in real life. 4. Although they carry better brands and have pricey items, you can get great deals there during sales and coupon days. Like the time I found my little boy a "green ninja" shirt and jacket last Christmas when no other store I had gone to had ANY Ninjago items in stock and I got an awesome deal because the coupon was also good on clearance. Macy's, don't go changin' to try to please me, I love you just the way you are. I just sang Billy Joel, where did that come from? I was in Macy's this afternoon with my 2 biracial grandchildren. I was at the Estee Lauder counter getting matched with a new foundation while the kids looked around the area. My 10 year old grandson was smelling colognes. When Amy was done matching my color I stepped down off the stool. My grandson was walking over to me and I noticed that there was a sales person and an off duty sales person coming up behind him. The on duty sales person looks at my 10 year old biracial grandson and says " Can I have that back now!" I said "Excuse me" staring at her. She states "We saw him put something in his pocket!" Before I can say another word Travis pulls his skittles out of his pocket!!!!!! I am appalled that my grandson was discriminated against because of the color of his skin!!! They witnessed nothing what they saw was a young black male with a bulge in his pocket!!! read more

I would have given this store no stars but that's not allowed . I have gone to this store several times to try to buy several different perfumes their always out of stock of almost everything and the staff could careless . I feel this location should just close down if they aren't going care enough keep things in stock . I won't be returning to this store if it is closer to where I live . This store should be closed down . I feel like this store is just over looked and the staff is horrible my advice is if your looking for a certain perfume go to any other Macy's this location is not good read more

Needed to make a return with receipt after only ten days. Used a debit card. Was told store card would be issued. Or 3-5 days on my debit card. "Manager" was extremely rude. When I finally insisted on speaking to someone else they gave me cash. It should never take getting upset to get good customer service! I am not in a discount store. I pay good money for everything I purchase at Macy's with that should come a higher level of customer care. Not rude snotty treatment by the "manager" Brooke. read more

I have shopped at this Macy's often. I have always had stellar service in each department. I just called Macy's to check on an item and Laura went out of her way to assist to find a Vera Bradley wristlet. There was one in clearance for $5.00. I hope Macy's remains open. read more

Last store standing! Kudos to store employees for keeping this store neat and well stocked, although not with the full assortment I'm used to. I kept being distracted by the stores barren setting and musty smell. The entire mall is deserted, except for Macys and most of the parking is some kind of shuttle lot. There didn't appear to be any where to get a drink or a bite to eat...so depressing I left after 20 minutes. read more
