I LOVE this store!! It has such cute & fun stuff in here for sale. Prices are a hit or miss as they had some cute makeup-like bags for $10 which I found to be over priced since the material was thin & felt cheap. They have a wall with a bunch of gag gifts which I'm always up for pranking my friends & family. They're are some inappropriate things that are not children friendly but they did have some children's gifts in here so I would be careful about bringing your young children in here as there are things that as a parent you may not want them to see. Lots of magnets, stickers, lists on pads of paper, fake poop, baby onesies with hilarious sayings on them. Check out my photos' for some of the fun items for sale in here. I'm trying to understand what the big draw is for this place. Our hostess took us here and told us how amazing it is. I'd say there are some cute/ humorous things available to purchase. I'd also say for every item on that list there are 10 junk / ridiculous items of dollar store quality at tourist prices. I didn't see anything I'd say was truly unique. Omg this place is fun!!! Not really suitable for children in that there's a lot of adult humor. Just be prepared to have to do a lot of explaining. I could have stayed in here for easily two hours however it was getting super crowded. I definitely bought a few things for friends. The great thing about this place is you can also take pictures. Other stores like this in "tourist areas" have a no pictures policy... idk I would highly recommend this place for silly novelty gifts and cards. The prices weren't bad, especially when you consider this is "speciality" stuff. The only staff I saw around were the ones at the register area. They were nice and seemed amused by the conversations and laughter they were seeing throughout the store. I can't wait to go back! Lol read more

I cannot lie! I came in here because we are visiting our daughter in New Hampshire and watching our 6 year old granddaughter for two weeks. We were coming back from visiting the Seacoast Science Center and had some extra time after lunch. Well she wanted to visit her big sister at work and where does big sister work? At Macro Polo. We were lucky enough to get a parking spot in the lot directly across the street and surprise our oldest granddaughter with a visit from us and her little sister. Am I a bit biased because our granddaughter works here? Of course, but this place was amazing even if she didn't work here. They have all kinds of quirky gifts you just won't find anywhere else. Plus the staff working there when we went in (the owner and our granddaughter) were extremely nice and obviously enjoy working there. (OK - that was the biased part.) A little under 2 years ago, I was going through a tough transition, and was kinda wallowing in my sorrows. One of my true blue BFFs put up with my crap for about a week, whereupon she announced it was tough love time; and I was gently yet firmly advised to pull up my big girl panties and shut the fuck up. And so I did.... Fast forward to a year later, and I find myself in Portsmouth, wandering around Macro Polo, giggling at the rubber turds and penis penne pasta. And I come across a door covered in fridge magnets. My eyes fall across one with a woman who looks a bit like Rosie the Riveter, with the words "Pull up your big girl panties and shut the fuck up" That magnet now hangs on said BFFs fridge, as a testament to her good advise and how well it's paid off. read more

The stores in Salem have tons of lines especially in October. This store had tons of sticker options and the coffee mug I was looking for as well as shirts. We were able to get our touristy gifts at one stop rather than having to stop at multiple stores and be in tons of lines. read more

We had so much fun browsing in here. I could have probably spent a couple hours looking at everything and laughing. We seriously contemplated buying the Adam and Eve mug that has the genitals covered by fig leaves which disappear when a hot liquid is added. We just peed our pants thinking of giving it to our Mother in Law who is quite fond of the bible. But, then we realized she'd never use it so it would be a waste. But, truly funny LOL things in here. Tons of funny books and knick-knacks. I do agree they should get some shades in front. I was sweating which made me want to leave sooner than later (in the middle of winter!). read more

Oddly, as a adult I started a tin robot collection which to my delight Macro Polo understands. Aside from that tons of pranks, gag gifts, funny cards, neat stationary, toys, and coffee table books. I was drawn to this gift shop by a sign that said coloring books up for adults. I picked up a bunch of nice coloring books for some senior citizens I know that love to color. Extremely dissatisfied with the service I experienced today at Macro Polo. I have been to Macro Polo multiples times and I'm sure I'll go again, as I do love their selection of quirky and silly items, but I wish to never experience the rudeness I received from the workers. Being a soon to be college student with thousands in debt, I asked if Macro Polo offers a student discount, not that it would change whether I was buying anything or not. A yes or no answer would've been fine, but the tone of voice and disgust in the workers face made me embarrassed that I asked. I felt ashamed for asking. She responded with a "no" which is a totally fine answer, but it was her tone of voice which made it so infuriating. Not only was that so unprofessional, but she was also on her phone while responding to me. I think it's okay for workers to check their phone, but being on it the whole time and responding to me like a bratty seventh grader made my experience so unenjoyable, I immediately put away my soon to be purchased stuff and walked out. I'm sure I will be back, as I do love this store and won't let one experience ruin my opinion, but I really hope the blond worker got her attitude in check and learns how to treat customers respectfully, because if she stays that unprofessional customers like me eventually won't come back. read more

Horrendous customer service. My wife was looking for a gift for our daughter. We both had our masks on as we normally do. My wife's mask slipped down accidentally and we were met with a loud and piercing angry voice shouting across the store "ma'am pull your mask up!" The whole store got quiet and everyone stared at my wife. She was very upset and embarrassed. we both believe in and understand the need to wear our masks however the store clerk could have been more discreet and polite about enforcing the policy. It was an honest mistake but the clerk made it clear that she was going to make a dramatic scene out of it. Be aware of possibly being publicly ostracized because of an honest mistake. read more

Oh Macro. I always find something in here to make me laugh. When I was in high school, I used to come in for their selection of colorful studded belts, which they no longer have. I also bought my friend an entire bacon themed Christmas gift here one year, starting with bacon lunchbox, filled with bacon flavored dental floss, bacon flavored chapstick, bacon flavored mints, bacon scented air freshener...you get the picture. Fake poop? They have it. Selection of mustache goods? Yup. Punching nuns? Mmmhmm. Books of awkward drinking games and oddly shaped ice cube trays? Indeed. Some of my best scores here: *My husband's duct-tape wallet. Complete with lifetime warranty from company. Going on three years now with this thing. Great. *Locally made bottle-top earrings, I have the Magic Hat variety, bought my friend the Moxie ones. Get nothing but compliments on them. *Assorted greeting cards. I am a native New Yorker who has visited family in New Hampshire at least twice per year for the passed 18+ years. When I was a child we would often visit Downtown Portsmouth and Macro Polo was always my favorite place to visit. They carry fun and interesting items. I recently visited Macro Polo again after a few years away and I have to say I believe I enjoy the store more now than I did then. I love the note pad "lists" they carry. Hilarious. But I would have to say that my favorite item is the line of "Life is Crap" t-shirts. I bought a "Out of Beer. Life is Crap." shirt for my husband and a "Out of Chocolate. Life is Crap." shirt for myself. I found those to be the most appropriate for my husband and I however there are shirts that are a lot funnier than those. If you're ever in Downtown Portsmouth you have to stop in Macro Polo. It is a fun store for people of all ages. read more
