Do not waste your time with the doctors, counselors, or therapists at Newport County Community…read moreMental Health Center. I am writing to share my concern and experience with the Newport County Community Mental Health Center in the hope that others can make informed decisions about their care. The center's priorities focus more on time, billing, and strict procedural requirements than on patient care. I felt like a number rather than a person in need of help. Medications were prescribed with minimal background review, and little attention was paid to my overall well-being or personal circumstances. I came to the center following major depressive episode, seeking compassion and support. Unfortunately, interactions left me feeling even worse--disconnected and unheard. This letter serves as a warning and a call for change. Mental health care should be about people, not paperwork. I hope sharing my experience might encourage improvements in how clients are treated and supported.

As retired military who qualify to receive…read morecare at the VA, this pharmacy allows for prescriptions from the VA to be transferred to this location. Parking is around back. Show your ID to enter the building. The building is large and includes medical records, radiology and other medical services. We don't often see many staff in the main lobby area, but those we have encountered have all been helpful and pleasant. Most departments are down hallways off the central lobby or upstairs. A public restroom is down the hall, past medical records. There is a small 'café' down a hall on your right just past the pharmacy that includes a couple of vending machines. Although there is a food prep area here, I have never seen this area open. There is quite a bit of medical info available posted throughout the facility and from time to time they have a medical exhibit of one sort or another in the lobby area. The pharmacy is right inside the door. Use the kiosk to scan your military ID, answer some questions and you will be issued a ticket. Have a seat and wait for your number to be called on their automated system. We don't usually have more than a few minute wait but always come prepared because some days the clinic is hopping and the pharmacy busy.

My husband is active duty Navy and so he basically stuck getting his medical care on base. The plus…read moreside is that it's free and it's relatively self-contained, but the downside is pretty extensive. Before the covid pandemic, it was hard for us to get him appointments for routine visits and even harder for us to get him referrals for specialty services that were outside the clinic. Referral management at this clinic seemed to revel in its feeling of power in keeping referrals from service members which I feel is a dire problem for service members who truly need services. Every time I've been here, it seems like the clinic is well staffed, however this does not relate to a well-oiled machine by any stretch. Whether we were there for a pharmacy refill or for a standard checkup, it seemed like visits took much longer than they needed to because of poorly managed time and recurring disregard for the time service members and their families set aside for their scheduled appointments. Now that covid is impacting basically everything, the clinic is no different. Everyone regardless of who they are is required to wear a face covering while on any installation which includes family members of service members. If you are non-essential, you are not allowed to go inside the clinic which makes sense. They are also working the kinks out for bringing pharmacy items out to the curb to reduce the exposure of service members to potentially sick people which I think is fine. The only issue is that the system is not working and they have had to go back to the clinic multiple times just to pick up a routine prescription that they told me was ready. We've had the experience of getting to know multiple installation clinics through our career with the Navy and understandably this is the one of the smallest if not the smallest clinic. That said, its relative size shouldn't dictate the quality of care it provides to its service members and their families as well as the veteran community who depends on it.

I called to get my records faxed to get a second opinion and was yelled at by the office staff that they have and I quote, "so much paperwork to do to get insurance approvals for surgery and I'm not going to get insurance approvals if you are getting a second opinion. I'm not going to fax your records if you are going to go get a second opinion. You have notes that have been mailed from the appointments use those. It is so much work to get insurance to approve surgery" I do not have notes from my last two appointments and have not received those in the mail. This is a disgusting way to treat a patient. It is my right to have my records and my right to get a second opinion, particularly when I am having a surgery. I am appalled that the staff would treat anyone this, particularly someone who needs to have surgery in this manner.

My foot pain caused me to walk with a limp. The other doctors kept repeating the same "shoot him up" treatment over and over again. Dr. Rogers diagnosed the same issue but clearly explained my options which resulted in my neuroma surgery. Afterwards, I never felt better except for my regret of not meeting him earlier. I've had multiple lower extremity procedures since then which were all successful. I will always trust, respect and strongly recommend Dr. Rogers.

So I had my first introductory appointment with Family Physicians of Newport (FPoN) which I…read morescheduled a few months ago. Stupidly I forgot to put in my calendar which Primary Care Physician I was scheduled to visit. So when my calendar alerted me that I needed to go to my doctors appointment today I went to the wrong Physician's office. Slightly embarrassing to say the least and the receptionist at the place was far more thorough than she needed to be for my stupidity. However after leaving the wrong Physicians office, I still couldn't for the life of me figure out who I had scheduled with. Now here is where things get a bit odd. I went back to work and after a meeting realized I had a missed call. I called the number back only to get the Newport Hospital. Weird. A few hours later the same number called back. Upon answering a FPoN spokesperson (person did not identify their name), informed me that I had missed my initial appointment w/ them. I was pretty ecstatic because I had been wracking my brain all day to try and figure out who I had booked a doctors appointment w/ 2-3 months ago. I shared my story with this person because I thought it was pretty funny, and they dryly responded w/ "Ok, well I just wanted to tell you, that you missed your appointment and we can't reschedule" I was a bit confused and asked really? Like I can't reschedule ever again in life? To which the person replied yes. I told them that policy seemed a bit draconian (and it is). You make one mistake and miss an appointment and are saddled with the Family Physican's of Newport's version of the death penalty. lol. The dry person on the other end did not see the humor in my comment. It honestly felt like I was talking to someone from the IRS. So I thanked the person for my time and they responded in their weird dry, yet kind, manner and we parted ways. So in short, my experience with FPoN consisted of making an appointment 2-3 mo. ago. Forgetting some details about the appointment. Then receiving the death penalty and not ever being able to be serviced by FPoN. *shrug* I'm sure they are probably nice people but I really can't attest to that. I'm just leaving this review so other people are a bit more diligent about the appointment they schedule and don't suffer my same fate. But hey, if you do, leave a review sharing your story too! :D

I would like to start by saying that I & family have been a patient at Aquidneck Medical Center for…read morenearly 20 years. In that time I have recieved good medical care. I came to love my doctor, he savedmy life, literally, twice through his knowledge & keen observation. Recently my doctor dropped me, due to several failures on my part to make appointments. I can't offer solid reasons why I missed appointments, in alll cases, but as a single retired man, recently divorced, I found it difficult to make ends meet & at 55 its not easy to get a new job. Yea, its not easy. So during the past couple years yes my job (new) was priority over my appointments . I did call & reschedule, but those were never pleasent conversations. My last appointment my doctor (H.S.) treated me with distain, crudness, and lack of any compassion. Like he didn't know me. Next, I'm dropped as a patient. Yes, I didn't do my blood work, didn't know iI had an outstanding bill at blood work ? They wouldn't do it. Missed my appointment, yes, new job as manager of local small retail shop, couldn't leave, I'm manager/employee, 5 people. The missed appointments are billed & paid by BC/BS medical insurer. Now I can't find a suitable doctor. Who knows anything about my history. I have an injury, caused by prescribed medication (H.S,.) THAT HAS DEBILITATED ME, severe pain, and has moved me to near incapacitation. I have not taken medication for nearly two years for identified maladies, because I have no doctor. A few weeks ago I spoke with another retired friend, with out this being discussed, he told me voluntarly, exactly the same attitue and drop as patient story (H.S.). I, in disbelief, that a doctor would or could have this capability, capacity, compassion-less rude attitude. Does he know what trauma it is to lose a 25 patient/doctor relationship? NO BECAUSE HE HAS THOUSANDS OF PATIENTS, BUT WE PATIENTS HAVE ONE ONE DOCTOR! That I trusted his decisions, his life altering decisions as a doctor, that he was trusted with my life? Obviously he don't care, Aquidneck Medical Associate s don't care, & still have been unable to plead my position with either. It AMA is flushing old patients out for the new, with no reguard for the consequences on the patient. 25 years gone, no reprieve no discussion. I feel this is an a grevious violatiin of a care givers role. I my argument AMA said, and I quote "...missing appointments effects the Dr. schedule and income..." The doctor is paid a missed apointment fee. Yes, it may perdebate his schedule, but he is paid by me, my life survival day to day, trumps his schedule. I cannot give AMA, a good rateing for customer service or compassion, but all the doctors I have delt with, many there, are knowledgable & professionals. Consider this flaw if you think of being a long term patient of AMA. Its not just Dr. (H.S.) you dropped by the whole AMA! The Hippocratic Oath states the doctor is "for the convenience and advantage of PATIENT". Not the doctors schedule or income. The oath is lost & meaningless in this "doctor by digital" era. Good luck, with your care.
