This is my favorite Gardening and Nursery store. They are located on Burlington Mills Road, right off Capital Blvd. The various plants are beautifully displayed around the property based on their sun/shade tolerance. There's an assortment of flowering and non flowering shrubs, fruit trees, succulents, and indoor plants. If you want a display with several different plants, they have those too! I came here the first time bc they are local to me but I was impressed with their knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly staff. I return because of the quality and variety of their merchandise. Plus, I love walking around and seeing all the gorgeous plants. Many of my plants are indoor. I've been using Miracle Grow but I've since started growing herbs and some container plants outside. I find that a mix found here Daddy Pete's Potting Mix is a much better natural alternative. It's a better value (less than $7 for 25 pounds), and my indoor and outdoor plants are thriving. What I love most about Macon Gardens is that anyone I have ever talked to there is truly knowledgeable about plants. That is not the case at Lowes or Home Depot. They also carry a lot of plants that are native to North Carolina. We have never been disappointed. Everything we bought there is thriving. read more

This is a combined review of Macon Gardens (Mike Adams) & 2nd Generation Backyard Living (Chad Rodman).   Our new home is on a small corner property in a new development (5401 North, Raleigh NC). Being a new community, all homes have the same generic landscaping of lawn and some perimeter plantings. Not terrible, but not what we wanted. What we did want was to create a little oasis in our small yard--a place with beautiful, local plants that could survive the heat, attract birds and pollinators, bring color and scent to the garden, require minimum maintenance, and provide some privacy. We also wanted to eliminate most of the sod, in favor of planting beds and a paver patio. The overall vision was for something that was more relaxed and informal English country garden than formal landscaping. Last May we attended the Mad Hatter's Tea Party and Garden Art Tour in nearby Wake Forest where we met Debbie, who gave us a tour of her gardens at The Corner of Wake Forest Event Center. We were so impressed with her creativity and knowledge that we asked if she could recommend someone who could advise us with our own property. She recommended Mike Adams, owner of Macon Gardens, who we visited shortly thereafter. Mike came out to our property where we shared our vision. He provided insight and great recommendations for the appropriate plants based upon our vision. He sketched out a design for our property and included space for a patio. We asked Mike for a recommendation for a hardscaper, and were introduced to Chad Rodman, owner of 2nd Generation Living. Mike and Chad do a lot of projects together and that type of coordination was very important to us. We had another meeting, this time combined with both Mike and Chad, to discuss tying together the landscaping and hardscaping. Chad got our vision right away and was able to recommend a tasteful patio (our property is small) that could get plugged right into Mike's design. Fast forward - Chad started the hardscaping first with the pavers we chose together at Southern Stone. He recommended some really attractive, reasonable enhancements which served as accents to the overall design without adding much to what we had budgeted (i.e. an 18 inch high, 5 ft long seating wall and brick boarder.) He sent the runoff from our leaders and gutters under the patio, terminating near the street with attractive river rock designs. His team, working closely with Mike Adams, also planted all our shrubs and two trees, with Mike onsite to make sure everything went exactly in the right spot. If you are looking for a master gardener who knows native plants, flowers and trees for our southern climate... If you are looking for a hardscaping company led by a craftsman  and artist who can work closely and carefully with you and is on the job, monitoring every aspect of the design and execution... Just discovered this gem when we moved to Wake Forest this summer. Love it! Everyone is very helpful and they carry a good variety.

Today was my first visit to Macon Gardens and it was lovely. I was greeted immediately upon arrival and asked if I needed any help but was just browsing to begin with. It's a really cute place, not huge, but still has a ton of variety. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and assisted without hesitation when asked. I was only here to buy a plant for a gift but will absolutely be back for personal gardening. read more

Moving here from Florida I am use to large farm family owned nurseries. When I moved here I purchased $1,200 worth of Arborvitae, Cypress and Junipers, all but two died and Logan nursery in Raleigh wouldn't replace them. Then I ventured out to Homewood, tons of young folks working there not one would offer to help me. I asked the young lady who gave me an attitude when asking her a question about Azaleas. Had a huge wagon and fell because the weight of wagon. Not only did no one offer to help me they turned a blind eye. My money and time will never be spent there again. Recently I decided to go small and on a recommendation found Macon Nursery off Burlington. The feeling I get from how I'm treated is as if I walked into my Aunts backyard. Not only did they offer to help me find everything outdoors, two young ladies graciously helped me put heavy plant and plant pots in my vehicle. Mike and Debbie are always a pleasure. I called from out of state to deliver a Hydrangea plant to a friend, as a remembrance for her deceased mom. Debbie and Mike could not have been more helpful, asking about shade and sun to select the correct type of plant. We're new here in Wake Forest, and find ourselves in a brand new subdivision when we're actually "old house" people...so transforming our builder-grade landscape into something we'll actually use and enjoy was the first project on our list. By happy chance, we discovered Mike at Macon Gardens - and we're so glad we did! He did a great landscape plan for us and is always to work with us on alternative plants and help us tweak ideas. Everything we've gotten from Macon Gardens has been healthy and is growing well. We're in the beginning phase of our yard 'makeover', and the coronavirus has thrown us some curveballs in getting things approved, but we feel like we're in very good hands with Mike. We've been planting the things we can that are away from the hardscape that has yet to be approved and Macon Gardens is the first place we head to get our plants. Even during this challenging time, Mike and his staff are there to help, with knowledgeable options and solutions to your planting needs. They'll even have your order waiting for you if you call ahead. We'll be very happy to get this project completed one day...but we have really appreciated Mike's help as we take the steps we can right now to move toward realizing our vision of a transformed backyard.
