Once you arrive here you are basically in Melbourne's leafy foothills. Okay, not all trains along…read morethis line reach this station, but most do, though if you are planning on heading further north then, unfortunately, you may have to get off the train here and wait for the next one to come along. Still, as a station, it really isn't too bad, though it does feel like one of those rather unappealing 60s types. Yet, it is staffed and does have facilities, so that is a good thing.

In a way this is a major suburban railway station, namely because it happens to be a stop for the…read moreV/Line trains as well as a number of the suburban trains (well, actually all of the suburban trains that head along this line). It is basically a fully serviced railway station, and quite accessible as well, though I'm not entirely sure if it actually sports restrooms (a lot of them don't, and when they do it happens to be locked). Still, trains are reasonably frequent along here.

Essendon Junction does not have a lot to offer, but it does provide a train station (Craigieburn…read moreLine), tram stop (rout 59), bus depot (many routes), 7 Eleven, a couple of bars and a cafe. Essendon station has a lot of parking, but fills early. It is also close to Windy Hill, if you happen to need to go there for some reason.

Honestly, this is another one of those railway stations that really doesn't impress me all that…read moremuch. Okay, I'm not necessarily going to say that it is a particularly bad station, but it really doesn't have any character that the older stations have, nor does it have the convenience of many of the newer stations. Okay, it is probably more utilitarian than anything, but these 60s stations really don't impress me all that much.

This is actually quite a new station - sort of. There used to be a station here ages ago, back when…read morethe railway line when all the way up to Whittlesea, but as governments are prone to do, they decided to rip it up. Not surprisingly, they have since laid it back down again, and built some new stations, and this is one of them. Look, it certainly serves its purpose, and is also quite large, and even has some good facilities, something that many of the newer, and revamped, stations are taking on board. Yeah, this station certainly does work, and it is much better than others that I have encountered.

This is basically a university station, namely because it happens to be located right next to a…read moreuniversity. Okay, the trains don't always stop here, and there isn't all that much in the way of facilities, expect for the shopping mall that happen to be located beneath it, and it is a pretty cool shopping mall as well. Oh, and the station buildings are also quite nice.

Like most train stations in Melbourne Glenferrie Station is packed in peak times. CBD workers and…read moreschool children clog the station and the train carriages in the morning and afternoon. The station suffers from enormous numbers of school kids and students from Swinburne, but it isn't really a problem until you get onto the trains. The Lilydale, Belgrave and Alamein lines all come through here so to get to another destination you'll have to head further in and then transfer to another train line. During the late nights watch out for crowds around Cheers and Room the local hot spots. I'm not aware of any problems but it's always good to note that there are people drinking in venues close by.

I have ended up here a couple of times, namely because it is a major interchange station where you can not only catch the suburban trains but also the V/Line and even the train to Sydney (which runs twice a day, though you can't catch it into Melbourne, which is a shame). Yeah, basically it is one of those places that you should only go to if you really need to go to it.

Set opposite the massive shopping centre, Broadmeadows Train station is a gateway for those in the…read morenorth. Serviced by both the Craigieburn and Broadmeadows lines, metro trains operate at least every ten minutes from here during the week; and between 10-15 minutes on weekends making it one of the better stations in regards to frequency. The other great thing about this station is that V Line trains run through, and stop here. So if you're coming to Melbourne from the country and would prefer to hop off before you get to Southern Cross, Broady's your port of call. My sister comes from North Vic regularly to visit me on the train, and it's so much easier to meet her and drop her off at Broady from my place not even 15 minutes down the road. However, Broadmeadows is well known for its high crime rates and youth unemployment, making the train station a popular hangout for unsavoury types. Because of this I always feel a little uneasy, but if you plan you're travel for during the day and try to get there so you don't have to wait around too long, it's not so bad. Being a premium station Broadmeadows is manned through the Metro and V Line ticketing office so there is a good sense of security whilst the office is open.

In a way it certainly isn't one of my favourite looking stations, but then again as I have mentioned numerous times, you don't really visit railway stations just to have a look at the architecture. Basically it is one of those rather ugly functional buildings that in my opinion is a bit of an eyesore. In fact I sometime think that Melbourne has way too many railway stations, and one's commute time could be decrease dramatically by removing a number of them, such as this one.

Then again, I didn't actually hang around all that long, so I guess there is that. This is basically an end of the line station, and honestly, there really isn't all that much to see here, station or otherwise. Sure, there is a pub next door, but it isn't a particularly good one.
