OK, so it feel pretty strange reviewing a bus, but the 246 Bus service (provided by Ventura Buses)…read moreis one of the two great public transport routes in Melbourne city. The 246 runs from Clifton Hill to Elsternwick down the notoriously shit arterials of Hoddle Street and Punt Road. Effectively this links the likes of Elsternwick Park (where the annual Community Cup footy game between the Espy Rockdogs and the RRR & PBS Megahertz has been played for the past few years) and Cliffy Hill; but more importantly, the route cuts through Richmond along the way, therefore eliminating the dogleg into the city for those travelling north to south or vice versa. Now you may be thinking 'so what?' 'So what' is that more often than not, the bus will actually charge on past all traffic stranded on the Hoddle/Punt wasteland and get you to your destination quicker and with less stress than driving. Also, if you've a mind for a few beers say, at the Corner Hotel for example, you can leave the car behind and get yourself a skin full. Plus, bloody nobody uses this service, so you always get a seat. And, it's pretty regular (like every 10 minutes during peak times and 20 minutes for the most part after that). It's gold.

Okay, don't expect any facilities here, but it is reasonably close to a rather cool part of High street. Despite its lack of facilities, I still quite like this station.

Basically it is one of those rather ugly functional buildings that in my opinion is a bit of an eyesore. In fact I sometime think that Melbourne has way too many railway stations, and one's commute time could be decrease dramatically by removing a number of them, such as this one.

I'm not really sure whether I can call this station a 'major' interchange, but it does happen to be…read morelocated on the confluence of two railway lines (can I actually use the word confluence for railway lines, or is that just for rivers). This is one of those stations I seem to land up at more often than not, whether it be because I have caught the wrong train, or there are replacement buses in operation. However, it is a really nice station, and is also fully staffed and further, it also has restrooms, which is an absolute bonus. Oh, and I should also mention the lovely building that still represents the outbound platform.

This is another one of those gorgeous railway stations that I simply adore. Croxton Station is on the Epping train line and occupies a little patch of parkland between Stott and Spencer Streets in Thornbury. There is a tennis court next door and a great little corner shop on the Spencer Street side for your newspaper needs. What's great about Croxton (as opposed to all those other dog stations between here and the city) is that it has one of those machines that actually allows you to buy any kind of ticket (bar the coveted Sunday Saver) with coins, notes and cards. Who would've thought it'd be a great idea to actually let commuters buy the kind of ticket they want, with the payment method of their choice? Honestly, Metlink and their thug wardens can suck my arse, but Croxton's OK by this guy. Respect.

It is quite close to the shops, which is also a pretty good thing, and the trains are also reasonably frequent, and some of them are express as well, which I certainly do appreciate. Sure, it might not be one of my favourite suburbs in Melbourne, but the station does have some charm, and there is also a bus interchange as well, which also helps.
