My hubby was the captain of our raft;)
Jennifer K.

My family really enjoyed our float down the creek...relaxing, peaceful, and beautiful! We didn't see any moose (bummer) but we did see lots of fish and birds. Overall, great family bonding experience:)

So much fun! The guide who drove us to drop us off at the top was super nice. They've upgraded their facilities but doubled the price! It cost $130 per person. We will definitely take our own vehicles and kayaks next time. The scenery was amazing!

This was a great trip we rented a raft we had 6 in our group and raft was perfect kids had a blast . We saw 3 moose pelicans and lots of trout. Lookout for the rope swing the kids loved it. Water was cool but we got used to it. Great time was had by all.

"B" Family float activity~2022

I always make sure I write a review for great service. This business is extremely efficient, and as a result your activity is smooth and easy. Ordering online is clear and succinct. Check in is easy and quick. The staff was very pleasant and worked with our 26-person group without blinking an eye, many of us are smaller children. We needed more than one van and trailer, both were loaded and ready to deliver us and our gear to the dock. When there was a backup at the drop-off dock that was not fault of theirs, they were patient with the other groups holding up their schedule. Upon returning to the beach to drop off our rentals, they greeted us with pleasant attitudes and asked how our activity turned out. The equipment was in good repair and quality, something that I don't always get when renting water equipment. Great efforts, great job!

Moose!
Kelly Z.

We had a great time tubing yesterday! It was kind of a bummer that there was 3 spots that the river was so shallow that we had to walk, but that's no fault of Mack's! We even saw a moose! I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because they charged full price for us to have an extra tube for our cooler. I think maybe half priced would have been more fair. But it was still a great float! Highly recommend!

One of our favorite activities when we come to Island Park. We rented 1 raft for all of us. Our young grandkids esp enjoyed seeing all the wildlife (fish, ducks, moose, hawks, etc.). The beauty during the float trip is breathtaking. The service was exceptional. We'll definitely plan on doing it again in future years.

Lots of great options and provided transportation and life jackets. It was a bit pricy but we did have a blast.

First time for our 15- and 18-year old boys - booked "Lower Whitewater Trip" Class III/IV - this…read morewas a great 1st time experience. Our guide said the rapids were more like Class III - I think this is typical later summer? But our boys are enthusiasts and want to go again (but more of Class IV) - it was pretty mild, but like I said, great 1st experience. Quick drive from Town Center in Big Sky - like 10 minutes. Do your waiver and payment on-line for seamless check-in. It was a nice day with obviously cold water - we didn't rent any special gear, and were totally fine. Water starts to feel good (at least if you have a nice day like we did). Wear your Teva's or water shoes! About a 20 minute drive to where you take off. Hope for a great guide - we had Kyle and he made our trip exceptional. We were going through dips and "whitewater" that other rafts were passing by. He was very experienced, had a great personality and had a lot of knowledge about the surroundings. Thanks Kyle!! Return is roughly 35 minutes back, where you can view your photos. The photographers are phenomenal, but pricey - $125 for all the digitals. There is an option to choose 1 or 3 photos, but there are so many great pic's, you'll want them all! Don't forget to bring cash to tip your guide - if you forget (like we did), you can Venmo. Great times.

First big shout out to our guide and raft guide J MONEY…read more(and Tim)! We had a 10/10 experience. Definitely, one of our family's favorite experiences!! We got the wet suits and booties which was only like $7/person total. I'd highly recommend getting it. Kept us warm. We did that Level 3-4. My kids are 16 and 19 and loved every bit and want to do it again. I felt like the level 3-4 was doable though we had some close calls. Out of the 6 raft's no one went over. Theses guides are skilled. The time is exhilarating and serene at the same time. You get to to tip your guide after. We also choose to get a digital photo which the photographer does an incredible job capturing our moments. After you get to enjoy some of the best hot chocolates in town or coffee. This establishment is legit. It's a bit pricey after everything is done but so worth the experience with the family!

'Glamping' is a generous description as my family has glamped in Goleta / Santa Barbara, Calif…read more where safari tents have electricity (heaters throughout the evening), mini fridges, and microwaves. The site has a general store as well as a market/deli Under Canvas is closer to camping than glamping for the following reasons: 1) It took effort to start evening fires in the wood stove, but we didn't appreciate waking every 1.5 - 2 hrs to maintain the fire... and overnight / early morning temps were 37* F - 40s * F. 2) Other campers were loud and didn't respect quiet hours starting at 10pm. We're sympathetic with families with children. However adults are capable of speaking in lower volumes, cheering / shouting, etc. and committed to the guest agreement. (Mgmt. likely anticipates this, so ear plugs and eye masks are available for free in the lobby.) 3) The on-site breakfast restaurant (back of house in particular) isn't prepared for the number of diners. If you bring your own food, your vehicle serves as a rodent / bear box food locker. We didn't mind the common bathhouse, with locks that show which units are occupied / vacant. Each unit affords more privacy because they feature sink, toilet and shower (water is heated by a propane tank). Each unit has electricity and is temperature controlled. Highlights: a) Complimentary hot coffee, hot water, tea bags, decaf coffee packs are available in the lobby as early as 6am daily. (Half & half and oat milk and sweetener condiments are available.) The lobby features commercially packaged food & drink items, in addition to merchandise (apparel, games, maps) b) Despite the cold temps, the beds are comfortable and the 6-layers of bedding kept us warm. Hot water bottles are available upon request. Furniture inside and outside tents encourage rest. c) USB-charged lanterns and power banks to recharge personal electronic devices are available. Exchange the power banks at the front desk as needed. d) Multiple cornhole sets available and a children's play area nearby, in the open space adjacent to the lobby. e) Fire pits and s'mores ingredients are available nightly if you want to partake. A no-host (you pay) happy hour drink trailer is also available in the open space adjacent to the lobby. f) Daily activities planned for children, in addition to a live singer-songwriter during a happy hour once or twice a week. g) Friendly staff on a work exchange from across the U.S. They do their best... Campers are advised to text the front desk to seek assistance. This site is less than a 15 min one-way drive to the town of West Yellowstone. The Food Roundup store is great for groceries if you want to stock a cooler for lunch within the national park. I recall one father asking the UC staff if milk was sold on site.

My wife and I recently spent a week at Under Canvas West Yellowstone to celebrate our 40th…read morebirthdays. We left the kids at home and decided to go on an adventure. We love camping, hiking, traveling the world, and experiencing what nature has to offer, so Under Canvas sounded like a great fit. Unfortunately, our experience fell well short of expectations. At $460 per night, I'd recommend staying somewhere else. Here's why. First, I'll give credit where it's due: the young staff were kind, and attentive, and they genuinely seemed to be doing their best. In my opinion, the problems we experienced stem from the ownership and management of the chain, not the people working on the ground. 1. We found--and I killed--a rat in our bed. This was, by far, the most egregious part of our stay. On our second night, I felt something scurry across my feet. I woke up, looked around, and couldn't find anything, so I assumed I'd imagined it. When I felt it again, I knew something was there. I reacted quickly, and whatever it was stopped moving. The next morning, we investigated and discovered that I'd apparently killed a rat with my foot during the night. Even worse, it appeared to have been living in our bed for quite some time. We found fur, droppings, what looked like a nest, chewed-up pieces of other dead things, and, of course, the dead rat itself. We're campers. We're comfortable roughing it and don't expect luxury in the wilderness. But finding evidence of a rodent living in our bed is unacceptable at $460 a night. 2. There is nowhere to store food, which makes every meal an added expense. Another major flaw in the Under Canvas experience is the complete lack of food storage. There's no refrigerator, no bear box, and no designated place to store food. In practice, this means purchasing virtually every meal, snack, and drink elsewhere. Want to pack a lunch for a hike? Keep some cold drinks on hand? Bring snacks back to your tent? None of this is possible. Over the course of a week, the cost and inconvenience of buying everything at tourist prices add up quickly. Factor this into your budget before booking. For comparison, the Marriott in Big Sky, about 45 minutes away, offers suites with kitchens, stoves, microwaves, refrigerators, two queen beds, and access to a gym, game room, restaurant, pool, and hot tub--all for more than $100 less per night than Under Canvas. 3. The showers are inconvenient, unreliable, and poorly designed. To get water flowing in the shower, you have to physically hold down a chain, meaning you can only use one hand to wash. The water then turns cold after about a minute, requiring another minute or so to heat back up. In the meantime, you're standing there naked and covered in soap, waiting for the water to warm up again. Our particular shower also broke three separate times during our stay. Each time, we had to dry off, get dressed while still covered in soap or shampoo, walk to the main tent to report the problem, and then wait one to three hours for someone to come fix it. That's a lot of hassle for what should be a basic necessity. 4. Privacy is minimal, and this isn't necessarily the romantic getaway you might imagine. We deliberately left our kids at home to celebrate our birthdays and enjoy some time together. Unfortunately, the tents are so close together that we could literally hear the people in the neighboring tent whispering. Privacy is minimal to nonexistent. The property is also extremely kid- and dog-friendly, which would be fantastic if we'd brought our kids and dog. But we hadn't. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic escape without children or pets, this may not be the place for you. To be fair, this isn't necessarily a criticism of Under Canvas. It's simply worth knowing what kind of atmosphere you're booking. 5. We ultimately left early--and paid twice for lodging. After everything we'd experienced, we decided to cut our stay short. Unfortunately, Under Canvas has a strict no-refund policy, so we received no money back for the nights we forfeited. Instead, we booked the Marriott in Big Sky for two nights at $350 per night before heading home. Yes, we effectively paid twice for lodging because our experience at Under Canvas was so disappointing. The bottom line: The location is beautiful, and the scenery is hard to beat. The proximity to Yellowstone, the bonfire pits and s'mores, the games, and the family-friendly atmosphere could make this a great fit for certain travelers. But be prepared for the possibility of rodents in your bed, showers that require you to hold down a chain and may repeatedly break, and the added expense of purchasing every meal, snack, and drink because there's nowhere to store food. And even if everything had worked as intended, I still think Under Canvas is overpriced by roughly $200 per night compared with the alternatives available in the area. Would I recommend Under Canvas Yellowstone? No. Would I go back? Nope.

I was very disappointed with the level of customer service and management responsiveness I received. On three separate occasions, your customer service representatives assured me that a manager would contact me regarding my concerns. Unfortunately, I never received a return call. Failing to follow through on promised callbacks creates a poor customer experience and leaves customers feeling ignored. During my initial conversation, a customer service representative explained that in an emergency, management would typically contact the customer directly to discuss the circumstances and, when appropriate, consider a partial refund or another resolution. Based on that information, I expected at least the courtesy of a conversation with management regarding my concerns. Instead, my attempts to communicate were repeatedly disregarded. On my final call, the representative answered in a way that made me feel like an inconvenience rather than a valued customer. Throughout the entire process, the manager never returned my calls or spoke with me directly. Regardless of the outcome, I believe every customer deserves respectful communication and follow-through when concerns are raised. Unfortunately, my experience reflected a lack of professionalism and customer care, which is not how a reputable business should operate.

We wanted to float a scenic river (Teton river) on our own without taking a huge group trip w cheesy jokes and stories. But also need someone to drop and pick u up at the end of the float trip. This is how these guys differ from just a rental Co or a huge tour operation that grinds out 100s of trips a day. We had a terrific 2 ish hour float on a cat 5 which is a huge upgrade from a tube bc it has a back and comes w a paddle and lots storage for sunscreen. Drinks and we could have even brought are mini Bluetooth speaker for tunes. Very kind personal attentive service from Matt and Gary. Thanks

We are not new to boating but are new to floats, and the staff made sure we had everything we needed, understood what we were doing, gave us safety tips, and took us in a very timely manner to our drop off point. We had a great time on the float, it is such a unique and special experience! We didn't see any moose, but we did see plenty of fish and even a mother duck and her ducklings! After our float, the staff came and picked us up promptly...it was so easy! I can't recommend this company enough if you want to try something different than the usual Teton related, not as active tourist activities. We felt like we were immersed in the landscape and it was worth every penny.
