Cottrell Pier is a private (members only) beach on Jamestown. I have been going here for 33 years…read morenow (yes I just gave away my age) and have seen the place grow. I use to know all of the people that went but recently there have been a few new members. The pier itself has been updated, there is a new float to swim to and there is a nice wood loggia type building on the sand. This is perfect for parties and bbqs.

There's plenty of opportunities to climb/hike up trails to get even sicker views. There's also huge rocks you can take a seat and relax on, and everyone we passed was so friendly -- but we only passed a few people every once in a while. The best part? It's covered in the coooolest graffiti on the inside and outside of cement tunnels and abandoned structures that you can walk through. I've never seen anything like it! As you drive in, there…read moreare a few parking lots located on the right side of the road....there are about 3-4, so if the first ones are full, keep driving and hopefully you can find a spot in the farther ones. It does not matter if you park in the farther lots, you can still walk around the edge of the park and enjoy the nice ocean views and rocky scenery. There are areas for picnics, there is a small museum and there's the lighthouse as well. We have come many times and we have seen many people taking pictures with the beautiful background for weddings, quinceañeras, engagements, graduation, and more. Free parking, free to get in.

The lighthouse museum was open as was their little one room aquarium. We picniced in the lawn and as with all State parks it's "carry-in, carry out" so be sure you bring your own trash bags. Same for your pup. Furry friends are welcime as long as you carry their droppings out. Four parking areas are available at no cost. A number of trails dot the area. Most of the area is uneven grass and dirt paths although there are handicapped spots closest to the lighthouse and a paved path leading in that direction. The lighthouse museum is not wheel chair accessible. Composting toilet buildings are located in a field between parking and lighthouse. These are water free and have hand sanitizer available. If you are a forager this location may interest you. Be sure you have a license to enjoy fishing off the rocks.

The sunset and the lower temps make for a better experience. Soft sand! I have never experienced soft sand like this before. Rocks are throughout but it is mostly sand. Not many seashells, but the rocks are pretty cool. Parking is free after a certain time and ample parking around that 5pm time frame. There are many areas of the beach to explore.

I came during winter but not alot of people come here for sunrise. There were more sunrise gazers at the other beaches. At the bottom of the steps, you can access the rocks and ocean. We came in the winter so there was a lot of snow on the ground, but it was still so beautiful and serene. I imagine it's just gorgeous in the summer.
