I had a terrible infection that was the result of some work done by another Dr. Dr Ryan recognized that my infection wasn't responding to the antibiotic my former Dr. had prescribed and called me in on a Saturday to change my antibiotic. The infection which had been persistent went away. The first time he worked on my mouth I was shocked that I never felt the injections. After having a few procedures done I am finally trusting. I expect to be treated gently and always am. I used to suffer terribly from dental pain and now I don't. Excellent bridgework . . . They helped put me at ease and made me comfortable the day of my appointment and the day I returned for my new tooth. I was recommended by a bunch of teachers here in Chico and knew that they would not steer me wrong! I came in with a very bad tooth pain that lit up my entire jaw, it was so bad I didn't even know which tooth was causing it. I went to Ampla as an emergency patient and they told me to buckle up for a 6 week approval from my insurance. When I contact Chico Dental and told them what was going on and I wasn't an established patient (but was interested in becoming one) they got me in the same week and got my work done a couple days later. Thank you!!! Again I'm so grateful and want to say thank you for getting me in and taken care of under the circumstance. I've been going to Dr. Surh's office for maybe about 2 - 3 years now and he's helped me address all…read moremy dental issues, including squeezing me in for some emergency problems I had. I've NEVER had any any issue with anything or anyone at the office - all the staff is very kind and knowledgeable. Surh is former Navy, which I have a soft spot for as I have military family. In his waiting room, he has a photo of the ship he was assigned to, which I thought was a nice touch. He is obviously proud of his time in the military, which I appreciate greatly. The office is VERY clean, well kept, and there is water, coffee, tea, and other refreshments available in the wait room. Theres also a 2 TVs and a playstation, presumably for kids who might have to wait while parents or siblings are being seen. During the procedures, your room has 2 TVs mounted for distractions, including one overhead with subtitles always on (Lol, small details) for some additional distraction - normally tuned to HGTV, but the staff is always attentive and willing to change the channel if you prefer. Overall, I cannot recommend Dr. Surh enough. I've sent anyone who needs dental work to him and they all say the same - excellent service. Now the only downside: I have is that this man is the only DDS on site, so to see him, you may have to wait to see him. I promise you though, its worth the wait.

I had a failing crown that was only four years old and I was concerned about the decay that was developing near the exposed root. I sought an opinion from my former dental provider, as they were responsible for the decay due to poor workmanship. They denied the obvious decay, so my trust in them was broken. A few days later, Dr. Johnson evaluated the same tooth and he found significant decay beneath the crown and recommended replacing it. He took the time to explain the problem clearly and he answered all of my questions. The crown replacement went smoothly, and I was relieved to learn that the tooth could be saved without needing a root canal. I am 56 years old and still have all of my natural teeth, so preserving this tooth was very important to me. I truly believe Dr. Johnson's treatment helped prevent further damage and tooth loss. The quality of care, professionalism, and attention to detail were outstanding. I also appreciate that the office provides a five-year warranty on crowns.
