Macaron mania had largely escaped me. When it first hit my radar I assumed we were talking…read more"macaroons", those coconut stacks which are sometimes chocolate-dipped and always great but "trending"? I didn't get it. Then I saw that we were actually talking about something different, a cookie-treat which looked like a meringue and which I'd never tried and which I'd gone on not trying until Germany, of all places. Walking down a side street near the flat I was staying in, the banner outside this place beckoned. My friend entered with a very specific need: Salted Caramel Macaron. I was busy ogling the many colors and flavors on display when the man working the counter intuited that I must have one too and next thing I knew I'd purchased and ate it. A salted caramel macaron. Jesus rays shot down from the clouds, unicorns danced over my tongue, rainbow patterns streaked across my retinas. How had I never before tried a salted caramel macaron? Melt in your mouth fabulosity. Aside from some must-try macarons this place has cute gifty items, coffee drinks, candies and pastries, and a little cafe with, I guess, a menu of actual food. I can't speak to all of that so I guess this review is all about a single Salted Caramel Macaron. If you're in Berlin, don't miss it.

The big sign outside kinda turns in the existence of this wonderful thing, so who am I to not try it?! I was always a fan of the fruity maccarons more than any other and I've tried cassis and raspberry macarons - amazing! They had really bald flavors and also not two small so you can really enjoy it. The Maccaron itself doesn't stick in your mouth, unlike some other places I've tried before around town. They also have really good coffee and other hot beverages, I didn't pay much attention to everything else... Because after the first two I was really busy thinking about the other two I will take (as you all know maccarons are not too cheap - but it's totally worth it) The other two I tried were Yuzu (ask them and they'll explain), and Cassis and vanilla if I remember correctly... To be honest I liked the first two much better. It's really hard for me to explain the affection I have with this amazing cookie or however you call it. But this place has bought my love and trust!

I cannot get over how fantastic these delicate cookies are. I would trek in miles of snow just to get half a dozen once a week, and I hated the miserable Winter weather in Berlin. They sure cost a pretty penny, but the vanilla and the salted caramel is worth every Euro I've spent. I wanted so badly to take a class with the sweet owner, but she didn't have it until a little after I left. What a delightful place, and I'm so happy for her continued success. Absolutely unbelievable! The true DIAMOND in the rough of Berlin…read more It is not open on Monday or Tuesday, however I was in here virtually EVERY morning at the crack when they opened for their fresh baked goods. Pain chocolat, madeleines, tiny eclairs, macarons (which are ok), tortes, and those true to real good croissants. You can not get croissants like this in America. It's gotta be the butter I say, somehow it's different I am convinced. The place is run by a French baker (either that or the German guy speaks French real well), and in the product it really does show what the heck he is doing. It's also run by many other people who know other languages, an English woman, and some other young French girl who also of course speak German, and enough English to take your order. The also make fresh squeezed orange juice here. The coffee is also very solid, beans ground on order and made at the ready. I would come here every morning when the over was fired up, and so did lots of others. The line does move quickly, and on a dreary rainy morning when nobody is out, this is truly where everyone is, including many French people I discovered. I still can't stop thinking of those croissants, and grabbing them warm and hot right off the shelf for consumption. Get there early when they are prime, hot, flakey, crackely on the top, just amazing. I will be thinking of this place till the day I die, cause I will miss it so. If it's in your neighborhood you owe it to yourself to come here every morning.

And what does that include, you might ask? *clean, spacious, lots of natural light, sturdy tables, comfortable. Well decorated! *a well-equipped cafe with coffee, soft drinks, snacks, sandwiches, salads...and my ever-favorite: milchreis with applesauce! I will never be able to eat enough rice pudding to satisfy. I just will not. I love it. I also enjoyed a breakfast bread with what appeared to be cottage cheese, greenery and tomato. Also really very good. *If you need more food variety (unlikely) you can pop over to Vapiano next door. *Strong, consistent and EASY wifi/internet. *Friendly staff. *Encouragement to stay awhile. This was a great place to work for a few days with my colleagues, and it strikes just the right balance of loud/quiet, and bustling/calm to be energetic. A good vibe. The Mokador Cafe inside really quite nice, and I'd certainly recommend this as a place to pop in to in Berlin if you need a study session, to check email, work amongst the living, enjoy a quick meal, etc, etc, etc. Oh, and obviously...they sell/offfer/showcase BASE products. Kind of the point of the cafe, but the perks are the reason you'll keep coming back! **also, this is where I first tried Club Mate, a Berlin must. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_mate

And the portion size is unreal. Easily could feed two people. They have a lot of traditional German options on the menu but I opted for the bratwurst with potatoes and sauerkraut. I ordered on Uber eats for pickup mainly because I was worried about the menu being overwhelming in person. Pickup was seamless and the food was packaged nicely. I tried to plate it in a somewhat elegant way and failed wildly. Despite it being the ugliest plate of food I've ever eaten, it was up there with the best in terms of taste. The mustard was honestly the best I've ever had and it's just an all around special place. I came at 3:30 pm with barely a line and one table left to sit outside (plenty inside) and by 4:30 it was empty. The food comes out in moments. I was still eating an hour later bc this plate is gigantic. Friendly service too. I don't speak German and the girl at the counter didn't speak English, but we made it work.
