I stopped in for the first time and was warmly welcomed--customer service was definitely on point, which I appreciate. Gratitude for that. As for the food, it didn't quite live up to the hype. I tried the DJ's Jerk Turkey Panini, and unfortunately, it missed the mark for me--bland, underwhelming, and just not memorable. I also had the Blackened Greek Shrimp Salad and some of their "homemade" lemonade. The salad was decent--definitely better than the panini--but the lemonade tasted like sugary, store-bought juice. Nothing truly homemade or unique stood out. The decor and seating are fine, though the space is small and parking is limited--street parking only, so be prepared to circle the block if you're driving. Overall, a mixed experience. Great service, but the food didn't impress. Thank you for having me.

Fantastic service with the friendliest family of staff Tried them at lollapalooza, got the: Turkey burger bites bomb dot com fried plantains famous turkey monte cristo Sandwich (batter + light sugar with toast, cheese & turkey frie)d Veggie Philly cheese steak Homemade strawberry lemonade Seriously everything was delicious! Definitely would want to try the monte cristo and PLAINTAINS freshly fried in the shop likely the best PLAINTAINS I've had in Chicago When grabbing and going, I would recommend ordering on their website ahead of time vs using door dash/GrubHub. Mae Annas Jerk Chicken Wrap

Ordered via Uber Eats. First off, phenomenal customer service. A representative called me to inform me that I couldn't make a substitution (with the Turkey Cristo just FYI) and to ensure of my other requested substitutions, which I genuinely appreciated, because most restaurants don't take the time to resolve minor issues like that. Now the food. The jerk chicken wrap, phenomenal! 10/10. Really flavorful and not really spicy. Had mine with the tomato basil wrap. The salmon salad, I personally couldn't get into the caper dressing, but it is a nice accompaniment if you like capers. I'd try it again with a substitute dressing. The chili was really yummy too, and I don't really like chili. I'll definitely be returning and trying other menu items. Everything was fresh and well prepared, even if it wasn't my personal fave. Definitely a must try place!

Turkey Burger Bites. I ate 1.5 already . lol

I ordered from DoorDash and my dasher brought the food and it was still hot ! And I don't live that close. I got the turkey burger bites and mom got the veggie sandwich. My burger bites was good. I didn't care for the fries. The plantains were outstanding! I actually like them better than the burger!! The only thing with the burger is the bun was slightly chewy and that could be due to the travel. My mom loved her sandwich !!! The chocolate chip cookies were very good. The food was fresh ! When I eat here I don't feel bad. This is a healthier option for outside food. My mom devoured her sandwich so no pic of that lol

Thoroughly enjoyed my items from here but let me tell you about that damn salad! I'm willing to rank it as one of the best in the city after only one try. Twas huge to say the least, chock full of fresh ingredients, crisp, lettuce & that caper dressing was to die for. Seriously the staff should consider bottling the stuff & I'd be first in line! I also tried the jerk turkey sandwich & it was decent. I'd never think to pair jerk with turkey but it was a welcome difference from the often mundane jerk chicken found around the city. The jerk was very reminiscent of true jerk not the five alarm fire people assume is the authentic jerk flavor. The hours will unfortunately hinder me from becoming a regular but if given the opportunity I think think salad should be experienced by everyone.

Devin's buffalo chicken wrap is so good! Would definitely order again

The wrap was really good, not overly stuffed at all. Sauce was good and would definitely eat here again

The turkey sandwich comes warmed w/Turkey bacon, red onions, spinach and a homemade sauce.

This was my first time visiting Mabe's and I'll definitely return. I ordered a Turkey sandwich (I think) it had red onions, spinach, Turkey bacon and a homemade sauce. It was very tasty. The sandwich was warm and served on toasted bread. The potatoes were tasty too. The customer service was great and made to order. The ambiance is cafe style.

Wow! We HIGHLY recommend this deli! If I could give 10 stars I would. Home made chicken salad is the best! Awesome Buffalo chicken wrap, smoothies are off the chain and the owners are great! Go and eat!!

BTL nasty I couldn't eat it !!!

The BLT is nasty !!! Spinach was on it not lettuce and when you think of BLT it's fresh tomatoes and lettuce not cook not hot ! You looking for crush not soggy!

Service is impeccable! You are greeted with a smile even though they're often busy. The SALMON SALAD is literally to die for! Dave's Buffalo chicken wrap is such a crowd pleaser, my mom and boss always ask for that one when I run to get lunch. While I was waiting for my order, they had some samples. So I tried the chickpea salad sandwich which just so happens to be vegan ... IT IS BETTER THAN THE TUNA SALAD SANDWICH! Like dead serious. I can't wait for them to roll that one out next week. The chili is well seasoned and is better than expected for a fast food chili. It is not your mama's but it'll do for a nice hot side on a gloomy day like today. Strawberry banana smoothie is super good but it is not too sweet so if you are looking for a desert- try something else. It was perfect t for me but might not be up your alley. MY ADVICE: get lunch with your boo or coworker, choose 2 items from the menu and split them. You. Will. Not. Be. Disappointed. It was lovely to see a woman-led kitchen; they were moving like a well oiled machine. They are on door dash as Mabe's Deli! & I've been 3 times now and never wrote a review so I had to write y'all an essay today.

Everything I've tried from here is delicious. I usually get the Double Decker Sandwich but I've also had the Jerk Turkey Panini, 312 Sandwich and chili. Today I tried the salmon salad with Cajun Salmon and... it is everything !!

There's even a community board towards the bathroom, which gives this spot a community-based vibe. It's a quick, casual spot with several tables open for grabs when people leave. I got a traditional everything bagel w cream cheese to start the day, which had the RIGHT amt of cream cheese. Sometimes places give wayy too much, ruining the exp. I also ordered their popular Sumac Chicken sandwich on their Dutch Crunch bread, which was really good!! The bread had a slight sweetness to it that was satisfying and the flavors altogether were soo yummy. I waited ~12 min for my order, since they were rightfully packed. No outside food/drinks allowed if you're grabbing a table to eat. There's WiFi and a restroom in the back. Lots of neighborhood regulars. Bonus points that their food is halal for those w dietary restrictions. Great neighborhood spot!!

It had homemade croutons and sides of bread. Got a slice of the carrot cake and it was very moist. Not too sweet with cream cheese frosting. Raisins included, if that matters to you. We got the garlic chicken on French baguette. It was a creamy base and not something I would buy again. Glad we added cheese because there wasn't much to it. the other sandwich we bought was avocado turkey on Dutch crunch. It unfortunately had enough mayo to drown the restaurant. The amount of meat left much to be desired. We asked for chips which they had but only for online orders that came in. ??? Doesn't make sense to me. For 2 Sammie's, a salad and cake it was $45, just for a gauge of prices. The cashier was on the phone the entire time and couldn't hear what we said because of that. Kinda acted inconvenienced we were talking while he was on the phone. The restaurant is pretty chill and seemed like a workspace for people with art on the walls for sale. The art also had a thick layer of dust, and overall the dining room could use a good deep clean. The bathroom cleanliness was decent. This probably won't be another place I would seek out in the future.

I probably would not…read morehave stumbled upon this on my own, but the notion of a perfect fusion of Greek, Jewish and Italian (The Holy Trinity) immigrant flavors in probably the most American sandwich you could have thought of. Thankfully this came about pretty naturally where these communities converge. I mean it's "we have the meats" and cold weather food combined. Corned Beef & Mustard from the Jewish cuisine, Roast Beef & Gaird from the Italians, Tzaziki & gyro from the Greeks and LTOC from American sandwiches. Some people and places put mayo and ketchup on there, but it muddies the cultures and makes it feel like not just a meat bomb, but a sauce bomb too leaving things indistriguishable. It's got this combination of hot and cold, crunch and chew, spice and cooling sauces. The only thing I'd like to see changed is have horseradish sauce in the sandwich and have the tzaziki as a dipping sauce. The cheese is swiss, but I'd like some cooper sharp, but I don't want to confuse NY'ers who chop their sandwiches (pre chew as I call it) as it might be a little too melty. The fries are well done, but putting them IN the sandwich is too much. The hoagie roll can barely handle all this meat on it's own. People say to use the BBQ sauce for the fries, but it muddles the flavor experience. I like to bring my own celery salt bc I love it on a Chicago dog so much that I think it helps. The bread is softer, but doesn't fall apart (don't take it out of the aluminum foil, like the In N Out burger, don't remove it from the diaper) It's not a classy sandwich shop, but a blue collar, greasy, cash only, curt coustomer service place that the is for the working man and the hungry man alike. Locals love this place becuase of how authentic it is and it's easy to see why everything is so popular. It's all good and it all sells. The only thing more popular is their wings, large, meaty, well seasoned. There is no eating inside or outside, so it's to go only. Grab one on your lunch break, best place to eat nearby is the telephone pole you could lean against or the hood of your car. Like most top tier places there is a way to order. It's not drunk food like Maxwells, becuase it's not singular in flavor. It's everything. A kitchen sink if you well, hence the name Gym Shoe. You might think it's some funky shoe, but it's a $300 pair of Jordans. It's open 24 hours, so depending on the hour it could get sketchy, but it's popular amongs LEO's that people wont mess with you too much. Service is decent, far less full of themselves as hotdog places around here, borderline friendly. My favorite way to wash this down is with a Mexican coke. Becuase there is so much meat, cheese, sauces it actually warms up pretty well if you can't finish it. Unlike other Chicago foods like the rigobene's breaded steak sandwich or a Jibarito. While it's something you can only find not just here (Chicago), but only in the Southside. It's hyper local. Unlike many foods which can't actually be replicatable elsewhere, this one can. You can find all the ingredients yourself. I don't reccomend doing that becuase eventhough I'm writing this, your not finding this unless your a foodie or interested in Chicago, i'm still sort of gatekeeping things. No sandwich shop owner has really come up with this anywhere else.

Most of the comments call out there poor customer service as well as questionable, predatorial behavior. Stop having people unfamiliar or afraid to interact with people in roles where they have to INTERACT WITH PEOPLE. Typical stuff, not being respectful when presented with ordering mistakes, trying to charge people for silly things like bags for each sandwhich, etc. Things that NEVER happen in white areas. Absolute trash. Poor quality bread that was like a doughy shake. Got the large. Poor quality bread made it a diabetic fright. And it was disgusting. Meat was carne asada. I got a sandwhich that's supposed to be shaved meat. The Sweet Steak is a specific sandwhich. Imagine drinking an Horchata that was made of coconut milk. That's how weird it is to have you try to use your recipe for sweet steak. Isn't from your particular culture. Obviously you couldn't be bothered to research and respect the culture that this sandwhich comes from. Like you're going to tell me how it's supposed to be made? Cruz? Are you from this planet? A coconut horchata, or a buttermilk horchata, or a mayo horchata, or a cauliflower horchata - none of these are what you can get at 99% Mexican restaurant. Is carne asada usually ground beef? Just coming from SoCal it's like you're being deliberately obtuse. Really hope you take the time to think about this. It is absolutely bizarre hermano. You look absolutely bizzare to people with time to think about why you are choosing to make these decisions. Moreover it's disrespectful that you're not even trying to figure out why things are popular the way African Americans cook it. Weird and Trumpy to say the least. I avoided another spot owned by my non-black brothers because of the tendency to get frozen fried chicken in retaurants. It's unfortunate that this place is attempting to profit from the name Home of the Hoagie, a historical black female owned restaurant, yet they only supplicate the experience with poor quality. Didn't even know Home of the Hoagie used cheese. Quality is subtle like that. This place had their cheese sloppily added to the sandwhich. It's like they don't care about the community they are serving this crap too. It's really a bad look. Another "Hoagie" shop I didn't go to was also because the people making the food didn't seem like they even appreciated the food enough to replicate it with the care and degree that made their shop famous. If Mr. Cruz wants my business, take the time to replicate, at least the quality of Home of The Hoagie. All that great customer service doesn't help if your going to sell Greasy Spoon to make that quick dollar. Brought my friend from Europe here thinking it might be anything like Home of The Hoagie on 111th. You lost out on those dollars. Lost on some international good will. He's told his countrymen about Home of the Hoagie. Wanted to see if I could save some time by trying out your spot Cruz. Ended wasting time as the food was sooo terrible. Just feels disengenuous that you take the name to profit from it yet can't respect WHY they are considered the best. It's hard work that got them the coveted title. Else your name would be Cruz's Soul Carne Asada. Threw the 2nd sandwhich in the garbage without opening it. Fries both were the pre-frozen cheap stuff. Fries that I asked for sauce had hardly any! lol This is a greasy pop up. It won't last. Somebody got money, hired people they knew but failed to do anything else that could help their business. Home of the Hoagie is older than me for a reason! They are good. Even after the owner passed away. If you call ahead there's still some wait. After this horrendous experience, I'll wait in the long line, shut my mouth and like it.
