Worst apartments I have EVER lived in. I had a massive mice/rat issue and management didn't care at all. Throughout this keep in mind that we are very clean and my brother is OCD with cleaning/tidiness. It all started in November 2015, when a mouse had woken me up in the middle of the night crawling on my back. I went out to buy traps and caught it and I thought the issue was solved. I told the apartment and they did refund me for the cost of the traps and looked for a Point of Entry but none was found. They put 2 sticky traps down and that was it. No follow up or checking the traps. Then I got "strep throat" 3 times in 2 months; all tests came back negative but it looked like it so I was prescribed antibiotics which seemed to clear it up until January which I took 2 prescriptions back to back and nothing got rid of the puss on my tonsils. On January 25th, 2016, while watching TV a brown/black rat that had a 6 inch body (roughly) ran across my kitchen floor. It ran into our utility closet. My brother opened the closet and it was covered in feces. Again, to the store for more traps b/c the emergency line doesn't think pests are an emergency. We set traps and after a very restless night, we heard the trap go off at 3 am. However, it wasn't the rat I saw. This was a little grey mouse. We found the point of entry; a massive hole in the floor where the pipes were coming up. How was this hole not found before?! The next day, they used some foam to clog up the hole. Did you know mice/rats can chew through concrete?? But yes some foam will do the trick. I left the apartment the next day to stay with my parents. I couldn't sleep. I was still having that "it's on me sensation" from the November mouse crawling on me and now to know that there were more and not sure how many, I didn't feel comfortable in my own "luxury" apartment. A day later I did return to the apartment to clean out my pantry since it appeared that's why they were coming in (for food). It wasn't until I removed everything that I saw how terrible this infestation really was. Urine and Feces over EVERYTHING! Well that's why my throat was infected for so long because I was eating food that was covered in rat feces and urine. Not resolving the issue and allowing disease carrying rats/mice in my apartment is a major Health Violation. I spend hundreds on doctor visits and medicine. I had to throw away at least $500 worth of food from my pantry. EVERYTHING I owned (that wasn't in the fridge), had to be thrown away. The rats/mice chewed through boxes to get to cereal, taco shells, almonds, etc. The pantry was disgusting. The walls are stained with rat urine that is soaked into the walls, the floor was covered in feces. The apartment management didn't care at all! They refused to refund me for all my pantry items that I had to throw away. After several unresponsive days, they finally got back to me and offered to let us out of our lease (we had a month left) and comp the days it would take to get packed and leave. Imagine the stress of having to find movers, pack everything you own and find a storage unit in a week's time. If it weren't for my parents, I would have been on the streets or forced to live in an apartment crawling with vermin. I spoke with the office staff, property managers, and even the regional vice president and no one cared. They put sticky traps so they think that's all the needed to do. I work in the Hospitality field and I can't even fathom providing that kind of customer service to my clients! It was the worst experience I have ever had to go through. Not to mention, the property's maintenance person lived next door to us and he admitted to my brother (that I lived with) that him and his family had caught 6 mice in their apartment. I do NOT advise this property or any other MAAC managed properties. Save yourself A LOT of trouble and look elsewhere!! read more
