I've been here twice - there is just so much to say about it. A short summary of my personal culinary experience (this is mostly more reflective of my taste rather than quality. I'll explain in detail further down) up front:
Visit #1:
Appetizers: 2/5
Main course: 5/5
Dessert: 3/5
Visit #2:
Appetizers: 5/5
Main course: 4/5
Dessert: 3/5
Also, a word right away about the serving sizes that some people have criticized. Maybe they have changed them since then but I have eaten there in the afternoon after only having a small breakfast and I was so full afterwards that I felt slightly sick. I also overheard a man of more impressive stature than myself at the table next to me telling the waiter that "the food was great but a bit too much".
Personally, I also wouldn't mind a reduction in serving size if it would mean even higher quality (I'm not sure that's possible though). Or a reduction in price to compensate for it.
After all, it's EIGHT courses, for crying out loud. And TWO dessert courses. Considering that, I think e.g. one scoop of ice cream is quite alright.
The staff is very attentive and courteous and during my second visit they let me switch two of the eight courses that contained seafood of some sort (I hate seafood) for something else.
The ambience... well... green pillows just don't match with beige interior. At least one lamp seemed crooked and containing a dead bulb (or missing one?). And the wallpaper with tacky 3D renderings looks like something from 1999.
The leather benches are very comfortable but if you are able to choose between two tables, do check whether you would sit on the seam between two sections. Because that doesn't feel too pleasant and with the eight courses, you're bound to sit for probably around 90 minutes.
To get back to the food itself...
It's always an adventure. The idea to serve it in the form of tapas so that the guest has a broader variety of meals to taste is really great. And the presentation is always great.
Even though I gave the food relatively low ratings in the beginning of this review, I never really felt like they were doing a bad job. It mostly just wasn't my cup of tea. As a comparison - in my review for "Mini", I noted that I didn't understand who would think that a chestnut sauce would be suitable for chicken. I never had quite an experience like that here. It mostly felt like there were plausible thoughts behind the composition and it was executed well. Except for some cases.
Let's start with the worst and end with the best.
I'm really picky when it comes to cheese cake. And the base of theirs was a crumbling mess in my opinion. Too chunky and dry. I can't remember the cheese portion too well, only that I didn't like it. And I felt that the caramel was too salty. Overall, possibly the worst cheese cake I've ever had.
Their sorbets (three small scoops) aren't particularly smoothly blended, taste a bit bland and quite bitter. From the consistency and taste they actually reminded me less of sorbets but more of things like snow cones or slushies (even though I've never eaten/drunk one of those, I just imagine it would be similar).
Until they change their desserts, I'd recommend the banana sponge (which I found alright, though not worth describing) and "Mutiny on the Bounty" (similar to the sponge). Unless you like salty/bitter things for dessert.

Skordalia. During my first visit, I learned that maybe cold appetizers just aren't for me. My second visit taught me better. At first glance "So what, potato puree?" - but fucking fantastic puree.
Similar things go for their beef-tomato consomme. I usually avoid consommes, since I find their tastes so bland. But this was like a reinvention of the whole thing. (I was reminded of the Soup Nazi - minus the bad attitude)
Then there was the pearl barley risotto with vegetables and dried fruit.
They actually have another risotto which I didn't particularly care for (would've written about it in the "censored myself" part). The one with medallions of pig - I found it alright but.. this one.. THIS one.. the pearl barley risotto.. it was amazing. Even the possibly simply steamed vegetables were seasoned in a way that made me think "Damn!" with every bite I took.
And let's leave with the highlight. Their gnocchi.
Takes me back to the consomme, since I've gotten to know gnocchi as simple and bland by themselves. Yet, the first time I tasted them, my eyes got watery from the intense and fantastic taste. I had never experienced that previously. I was sitting there thinking "Oh my god, what is that? How can they make gnocchi taste like this?! They're just simple dumplings for crying out loud?"
Funnily enough, I also had them the second time around and they weren't quite as stunning. Still, I'd recommend trying them anyway.
There were even more really good things I couldn't write about due to character limit. Just go check it out yourself. read more
