The sink needed replacing, so he said a quote would be coming soon. It was at that point that things began to take a turn. Matt came on a Wednesday. By that Friday afternoon I had heard nothing regarding a quote or any additional information, so I called. I got the AI phone answer service "Dane", who is meant to sound real (with computer keyboard clicking and background voice noise) but is clearly not. AI Dane said that someone would call me back. Nothing. The weekend went by, Monday, Tuesday then Wednesday--a full week--went by. AI Dane was happy to take a message and have someone return my call. Only when I told AI Dane to cancel the project did I get a text--not a call--from someone named Chris (was he AI? who knows) saying that he thinks it will be "around $850." After all that waiting I would rather go through someone else. They may do good work--I can't speak to that--but their communication needs a lot of improvement. Update: Chris apparently is real, at least he said so in a text, and said that there were some issues that came up on their side and that they were sorry. Honestly, if a message had just been communicated to me that there were some issues and that that they would be able to get to it the following week, I would have been fine! I am not a jerk. But I do need businesses that make the effort to communicate clearly, which did not happen.

Allen Bunker, the contractor they frequently worked with, overcharged me for plumbing and ran,…read moreleaving me with a half finished kitchen. I used the company for kitchen gut renovation. I asked the plumbing company to bill Allen the amount he overcharged me and I will settle the rest, so we could finish the work. The plumbing company declined to do so, saying Allen Bunker was no longer on the contract. I then asked the plumbing company for the contract, so I know what's left to be done. Got declined again. I then sent them a detailed list of things and wanted to confirm those will be covered in the remaining work. Plumbing company said I was too difficult to work with and said they would cancel the permit. Well how else do I know what I am paying for? Finally, the company said they would take me to court for slander if I post negative reviews about them. I view my requests as reasonable and I can back up what I said. Sounds like they need to bring a lot of people to court then. All the time they sided with Allen (from their actions mentioned above) while insisting that they don't want to get involved in this. I want to post this as a warning for future customers who go through MacCleod plumbing through Allen Bunker. Have fun!

TJ talked constantly about his personal life. He was here for over 3 hours and did less than 30…read moreminutes of work, but I'm pretty sure he charged by the hour. He stopped to talk every time he walked by. He would continue to talk by yelling across the house if I walked away while he was working. He stayed after the job was done to continue talking and I didn't know what to do because I was trying to be polite and all of my attempts to end the conversation failed. This was the most expensive conversation I've ever had and it was not worth it. I know more about his personal life after one day than I know about people I've known for years. He seemed knowledgeable and like he did the job right, but wildly unprofessional and expensive for the amount of work that was actually required.

I called George Patey first thing Monday and was told they were booked for the week. But, they told me their plumbers were going to be in my building that morning. I should ask them to look at the job and see how much time it would take. The plumbers told me it was not a minor issue but they promised they would at least put some WD-40 on the decades-old joints to make them easier to remove. They couldn't promise anything. I had a doctor's appointment and left my door unlocked. When I returned a couple of hours later, I could tell they had been in my apartment. I was expecting that they had applied the WD-40. I woke up to a noise in my basement that sounded like a small leak. I found Marcello's Plumbing and once they arrived they gave an honest quote, fixed all of the damaged pipes, added shut off valves everywhere that there should have been already (last plumber did not do it correctly).
