Gas lighters, con artists and liars, oh MI. Buyer beware. If I can save just one person from making the same mistake I made, then my job is done. I was one of those it would never happen to me type of people and as sure as water's wet, they screwed me over. MI preys on the middle class. If I'm being honest, if affordability wasn't an issue nine times out of ten you wouldn't choose an MI Home. They are built in the middle of nowhere, as close as they can get them together without actually touching and with cheap labor and materials and then they nickel and dime you in the process ( I mean come on, you couldn't add a refrigerator cabinet?) For many of us for now this is our only path to home ownership. They offer incentives that reel you in and seal the deal. Everything is great until the ink is dry. After that you become just another idiot. They have no morals or ethics. If you have ever dealt with them they try to make you feel as though you are the one in the wrong. But no, I promise it's not you, this is what they do and they are great at it. They must take seminars on: insincere apologizing 101, the art of the bait and switch 102 and how to talk in circles 103. Their interview questions must be a long the lines of, how do you sleep at night after screwing hard-working people over? If you show an ounce of compassion I'm sure they tell you this job may not be for you. They pulled the old bait and switch on me and I have no recourse. They changed their site plans after of course I had already signed my contract and put a house beside me where there was no house before. That's fine, I like having good neighbors. Oh but no, they decided to make my neighbor my twin. Yes, they built a twin house right next to me. They copied my house down to the T. They made it dark, with stone accents and all. I have to pass by my house to get to my house. Let that sink in. Another example of their excellent gas lighting skills is they try to tell you that your house is Rivera Dusk Blue and this other house next door to you is Midnight Blue. Really? Both houses are dark blue! You changing the name doesn't change the color. Wait then there's more gas lighting and lying because then they tell you that your house is not actually in the next lot. See, I guess they are not supposed to build two of the same houses next to each other. But I can literally look out my side window and see the house is directly across from me. They even tried to change the definition of the word across! I had to pull out a Webster's dictionary and send the definition to them because they are so slick they have you questioning things you already know. They even tried to tell me the name of the street the house is different even though I can see the address on the sign and the street name is the same as my street name. I couldn't make this up! Please do your homework. There are other other honest, reputable builders in the Columbus area. Save up a little more and move to exactly where you want to go. It's not worth it in the end because now I've lost because who wants to buy a twin house? If I could sell tomorrow and not lose money I 100% would and take that from someone who made a lot of improvements to my home. But I can't stand the fact that I live in the community built by liars, thieves and run by retired used car salesmen that prey on hard-working Americans just to make a buck. They will throw stones then hide their hands. You've been warned. And before they post some generic rebuttal, remember that it's their job to have a response on standby to reply to messages. So when they tell people please call us about your concern or we are sorry to hear about your experience, please understand that it's a bunch of bologna. They don't care, their apology is insincere and you will not get a remedy. I even asked them in good faith to install a white railing on my home to differentiate the two homes from each other. Crickets on that request. So I will do it myself and pray that they don't copy that too. I would NEVER recommend MI Homes. Zero stars. Buyer beware! read more

M/I Homes – Columbus - a real estate for sale sign - General Contractors Near Me - Columbus, Ohio

See all

Pros: floor plans, location, they were accurate with schedule Cons: not presented with all design options, financing service was terrible and we didn't use, poor quality of workmanship and materials, but customer service and experience was the worst. Issues happen with construction but M/I doesn't care and you are just one of many. Wouldn't recommend and hopefully I won't need to build with them again. read more

M/I homes will build a river in your backyard for drainage and refuse to fix it. This has caused puddles of freestanding water after 72 hours. It has been over 300 days with no resolution. Their customer service, even after verbal and written agreement on the issue, refuses to come up with a solution. Their communication is horrible. They are not proactive. Don't build a home with M/I. They won't fix their mistakes. read more

Don't buy and MI Home they are the worst developer to work with. They will and deceive you to make a sale. Check out their horrendous reviews all over the web! Read the BBB complaints about them, they have a D- rating! read more

MI Homes build a quality home for us BUT, and I mean a big BUT... They have completely failed to finish the promised infrastructure within the neighborhood; meaning final paving of roads, completion of landscaping projects, cleanup of construction debris, along with multiple failed promises from both their Land and Customer Care Departments. read more

Mi has some wonderful floor plans, that is the positive. Now as to the review, we moved into our home Thanksgiving weekend 2015 since then we have seals on our windows breaking left and right, of course the materials are covered under warranty however for 3 transom windows that have never been touched will cost us $1100 to replace and that is just those 3. They replaced 2 within the first 6 months and those were under complete warranty. We have 24 windows in our house! We are replacing the 3 with new windows for $1900, only 21 left to go! Our driveway is literally falling apart, we have sealed it for the past few years however we have rocks all over the place, pits in the asphalt and the cracks just keep coming. Within in another year or 2 I am guessing we will be driving on gravel. I told MI over a year ago and they just refer you to the company they used to install it. Which is absolutely no help to me nor are windows covered under a warranty that require me to pay as much to install them as to replace them with a better product. You will also want to walk any home you build often, ours contractors completely forgot part of the railing at the base of the stairs, this was not an upgrade it was part of the base model and of course you can see the shotty work they did to fix it. Your baseboards are made of cardboard for the most part so don't drop a blind or anything on them they will completely disintegrate. If you are upgrading and purchasing your appliances through the build process beware as our refrigerator has been replaced twice and even then the installers beat the crap out of it. Our dishwasher motor had to be replaced within the first 2 months because the installers dropped a screw in the motor and left it there, needless to say the dishwasher was replaced this past January and we actually bought a 5 year warranty on the fridge due to issues with it. We are having the outside of the house re-painted to keep it from rotting out and our shutters look like they were painted in the rain with as faded with run marks on them. So we sold a home which we had completely renovated to move to a new home so we would not have the constant expense of renovating, replacing, repairing our 1928 house only to find out we would have been better off staying in our 1928 house. Beware of MI once you close they do not care what you have to replace, fix, or repair or what it costs you. read more

I would recommend against purchasing a home with M/I. While everyone understands the supply issues that are going on right now, they are still very slow with their build process. Their communication is atrocious and non-existent, you have to research to find people to contact to complain to because nobody whose name you have been given will respond or help. Their workmanship is quite poor and the fit and finish is terrible. They will use your lot as a dumpster for whatever they feel like throwing on the ground and then will never pick it up. Once you close they will abandon you and never resolve any existing or ongoing issues. If you do buy, do not close unless everything is done or it will never get done. They keep having people quit because they can't get the work done and never provide any information as to who is going to finish your house. They sell the houses at a huge premium and the end product isn't worth half of what you paid. The entire community is fed up and unhappy with pretty much all aspects of the process but M/I doesn't care. I have not found a single neighbor that is happy with M/I. read more

The CEO Robert S is a prick! We had a meeting with him and discovered immediately that he is as shady and corrupt as his sales and construction staff. Run, don't walk away from this builder!!! They will rush your home to close to suit their agenda and quotas. We went to a final walk thru of the house 3 days prior to closing and saw numerous, potentially serious issues. But oh no, they would not budge on the closing date. So as a result, they received calls almost on a weekly basis for a full year after closing for things like: rain water entering the house thru faulty weather striping and seals, bathroom shower door falling off its hinges, water leaking from the kitchen sink into the cabinet below, the hot water was improperly mounted, there was water pooling alongside the house, the a/c unit was too small for the size of the home, insulation in the attic was lacking, strange sounds would emit from the a/c vents, the toilets would continuously run after being flushed, the water pressure was uneven and inconsistent, interior doors would open and close on their own, the door leading into the garage frequently groans and squeaks, even after applying wd-40, light switches are poorly placed or not conveniently duplicated. And this is just the "short" list. Do yourself a favor and choose K.B or Lenar or just about any other builder but this one. read more
