The workout was a HIIT version alternating between light/medium weights and cardio. 45 sec on, 15 sec recovery. I felt the right amount of sore afterwards to know I worked hard. I was able to do most activities or at least adjust to one's I could do. The instructor was energetic and motivating. Music was pumping up the class. We even had a well behaved puppy participant. The room was bright and well heated. Really great experience.

I tried to call and get in touch with someone there to find a time to set up a meeting with a personal trainer. I was very excited and ready to start my powerlifting journey, and after seeing these positive reviews I thought this would be the place to do so. I called. Someone answered the phone, I didn't get his name, but he was chewing loudly in my ear the whole duration of the conversation. I asked for one of the owners/managing trainers and he said that no one was available. When I said I could call back later he told me "You don't need to." I hate to leave a bad review, especially considering it's my first review ever, but I'm quite fed up with not being taken seriously by gym owners, staff, and trainers. This was an incredibly disappointing experience.

I have had my eye on this place for a while as I travel pretty often to the Minneapolis area and have been looking for a gym just like this. Minneapolis has so many Anytime Fitness and Planet Fitness, which are not bad establishments, just not a place that fits my workout personality (i.e. "lunk alarms", no real heavy lifting and dumbbells that stop at 50#). Southside definitely provides the atmosphere to focus on your strength and lifting goals. Loved the gritty atmosphere of "go in and get it done, no excuses". The main gym is awesome and has a ton of speciality bars, racks, DBs that go up to 150 and platforms specifically for oly lifting only plus other platforms for powerlifting. I came in around 3-4:30 and was one of the only there...so no issue whatsoever of having the run of the place. Honestly I wish that there was a place like this in Omaha. Will back for sure next time here.

She is, far and away, the most impressive Pilates instructor I have worked with. Pilates has especially helped relieve some chronic pain that I suffer due to repetitive use injuries (related to competitive gymnastics and diving in my youth). Kim is excellent at assessing bodies, their potential weaknesses and caters her class to each individuals' needs. Recently, I have been working with her for prenatal Pilates classes, and she is wonderful. She has great modifications and equipment to help accommodate pregnant mamas of all shapes and sizes.

But I did use the locker room for the women as well as the pool/sauna area and cycle studio. Arriving the staff were friendly, not pushy to join or commit (I was a guest to a friend). One of them literally walked us down the hall and pointed us in the right direction. We felt so comfortable, welcome and had a great workout! Looking forward to returning for another cycle/HIIT class! The class was one that novices and experts could thrive in! The instructor was inclusive and also pushed us in the best way! There were options to modify, make things easier/harder, etc. Great instructor! The locker rooms were clean, although the key system, my friend is used to the code so didn't have a card to use to get the lock to work. The desk outside the locker room has spares and helped right away. The showers were clean, locker area clean, overall great! Parking was....a pain. But I can imagine on a Monday at 5ish, that's the case. Found a spot within 5 minutes and had to walk a few minutes but whatever. If you're looking for a gym with freedoms to use equipment, shoot some hoops, or take a class - check out lifetime!

The facility itself was large with multiple rig areas and plenty of space to wod. Equipment was in great shape and there was plenty of it. Parking was super easy with an expansive parking lot right in front of the gym.... SCORE! I loved the programming of strength in the beginning and a classic CrossFit metcon after. I was a sweaty mess after a killer wod despite it being -6 outside. I appreciate any box that actually has heat, let alone turns it on!!!! So nice not being frozen for the first half of class. Easy to sign up and sign the the waiver online ahead of time! Thanks 5am crew for making my visit to the twin cities so wonderful!

ALTR is the first one in the area that reminds me of an NYC-type of gym. Very nice facilities with showers, blow drying stations, etc. - a very nice overall level of amenities. The staff was really nice when we came in and made us feel welcome. The class was in a dark studio that was very well equipped and everything was in good working order - no struggling to find weights or figure out why something isn't working. The instructor was great - motivating, friendly and kept us moving and sweating. The class was definitely a great workout but was not intimidating. The instructor would give alternate movements if you couldn't do a specific exercise. Definitely check it out!
