The gardens at Mears Park are so pretty and you can tell they are cared for with lots of love. The flowing water feature through the park is really special. It engages visitors by inviting them to cross the stream on the boulder stepping stones. It feels exciting even if it's such a small stream. I was very impressed with this park and hope that next time I am in St. Paul I will pay it another visit and see more details in the gardens.

There's a large amphitheater for outdoor performances, and the park has fantastic seating options with benches spread out all over the place. The location is incredibly convenient, too--it's an easy walking distance from both the St. Paul Farmers Market and Union Depot. It's a wonderful, easy place to walk through and a especially nice spot to sit and eat some ice cream in the summer.

Not too hard to imagine, because you can walk to the ledge over Grand Hill and look down at the river, the bluffs, the bridges and trees and wonder if they look back. The park has been all kinds of tore up for some time as they installed a GIANT statue of an eagle killing a snake, some grand gesture of Americaness or some such that was salvaged from some razed building in St. Paul then moved to a parking garage and then moved to the park for us to enjoy. There will be seating wall, a "plaza" and a drinking fountain, and hopefully coming this spring....GRASS.

Flash forward to present day, and I attended the winter wonder hike with lead Michael at the sister property to Dodge in Cottage Grove. My friend and I were the only one on the hike along with our mini baby and despite some hiccups of the baby crying, we loved that Dodge had something to offer in the cold winter months. As a human, I appreciate anyone who can lead a walk in the cold as it's extremely hard to get out in nature solo when it's dark and the sunsets so quickly. Thank you, Michael and Dodge Nature Center! Offering community classes for all 4-seasons is clutch. Looking forward to more visits.

6/2/22: Overall 3.5 stars. Located in suburbs of Woodbury, I had to create this as a new Yelp…read morelisting because it was nowhere to be found. Hopefully, by adding this in, it'll give this cute little lake some much deserved love. They call it La Lake Park, but it's really just a grassy area that leads to a dirt trail that goes around the lake. It's good for walking, running or hiking. I saw someone walking their dog, so I guess it's pet friendly. You can also ride your bike there. It's just nice to have a getaway within the city. It's probably 1.5-2 miles and it's good for if you don't want to run on asphalt, and just want a quick nature outing. My friends say you need to touch nature everyday! lol ;) There are no bathrooms, picnic tables etc. Nothing fancy. Just a quiet little nature spot in the 'burbs. So overall, 3.5 stars with a nice little round up to 4 stars.
